You think we should have paid Lafell $11M?

No. We are right to move on.

I am actually pumped.  The unknown is much more inviting than what we had.  There are a lot of folks freaking out, but Gett will get it done.  He is simply waiting for the deals.

That's utter bullcrap and you know it.

A WR corps that was under 2000 yards collectively.  That will be tough to replace.

This. I don't know that our WR's will be a huge step up from last year (once we sign/draft them) but it's not like we're losing an elite unit or anything. Smith being cut was more of an emotional gut punch than a huge hit to the production of our WR corp. Ginn and LaFell were way overpaid. Hixon barely played last year anyway.

I think all the "D.G. is in rebuilding mode" is off base for the team as a whole, but certainly not for the WR corp. We should be able to at least replicate last year's production from a few mid-level FA's and a 1st/2nd round rookie.

Under 2000 yards with a lackluster OC at the helm. I think Smitty had the right idea. The wide receivers were not the problem, Mike Shula was.

That being said, I think with a couple vet FAs, and a high round draft pick at wide out, along with Olsen and our backs, Cam can throw for over 4,000 again, It's just a matter of the OC drawing up pass plays that go for over 10 yards.

Nope. But we sure as hell should be paying somebody to catch passes and we're running out of options.

No I agree. Lafell was like the 80th pick in 2010. A good 2nd round WR pick and we have him replaced.

That was 100% on Shula's offensive philosophy. Unless Shula changes I would assume we're looking at even lower numbers. Possibly much lower.

    • The difference is about how much player input is allowed and encouraged in the decision making process. Top down teams tend to dictate to players how everything is handled. Disagreements are handled by the coach and players are expected to do what they are told regardless of what they think or feel.  Players are perceived as commodities to be used until we find better. In player led teams player input is encouraged and valued. Players and especially leaders are expected to settle their own disagreements and be accountable to the team but mostly to each other. Players are family to be appreciated and supported in their growth. Is the reality of football the same in both? Yeah there are limited positions, football is a business and winning is the bottom line. Coaches get final say and run the program because that is their job. But in player led teams they feel valued, appreciated, part of a larger whole. Most people who have worked at multiple jobs know exactly what I am talking about. When players try to run the show and don't value  coach input that isn't a player led team, that is a circus which we surely are familiar with in our past.
    • For our pics and trades tonight and tmrw.  Remember, Aho was a 2nd rounder and Slavin was a 4th rounder.
    • Seems to be the consensus from the talking heads. I really wish we had double dipped at center in the 2nd round. Sion will never play in the league.
