Why Blame Gettleman?

We all knew that coming into this year, that we still have ISSUES with the SALARY CAP.  Why are we not blaming Marty Hurney for the bigger screw-ups?? Like signing players to long term contracts that they really didn't deserve..  Or giving out big bonuses that would later come back to haunt us where we can't afford to sign players.  If I recall, doesn't anyone remember when we traded all those picks for a dumb player like Sean Gilbert? Or doesn't anyone remember where we wasted all that money signing Chuck Smith, Reggie White, or Eric Swann??  That was the worst..

So why don't we just see what happens this year again like we did last year?  Nobody complained when we finally went on a 8 win streak with a bunch of players on one year contacts, (that includes Jordan Gross, as well).

Gettleman is not going to come out and bitch back and forth to us about what he did and why he did.  I am certainly not for one going to grade him until 2015, when we finally clear the salary cap and we have a bunch of money to do with it otherwise.  If I recall I also remember the NY Giants giving up several good players and they won 2 Super Bowls doing it as well in the 2000's.

So.. lets just wait and see.

Go Panthers!

I think its simple. Every GM makes mistakes, no one is perfect.

I believe we can't truly judge his GM abilities until we are free of hurney's destruction..it will be a couple years. They guy got the job done in a much worse situation last year, so I at least owe it to him the benefit of the doubt until at least pre season.

Just because Hurney has made mistakes, doesn't mean Gettleman should get a pass for adding his own mistakes into the mix. Hurney put him in bad situation cap wise, but also left him with an outstanding core group of players. A group of players that have proven they can win now, looking at last year.

Gettleman's job is to fix the cap without crippling the franchise in the process, that's what he's going to be judged on going forward. Let's stop blaming Hurney for everything because we aren't the only team with cap problems, yet other GMs still manage to get under their cap and still remain competitive.

Gettleman did that last year, and it's time to see if he can do it again this year. If we take a step back, and I'm not talking record, I'm talking competitiveness. I'm talking playoffs, if we take a step back and don't make the playoffs, then that's on Gettleman not Hurney.

Simple really Hurney was responsible for handing out overpriced contracs to Stewart. Williams. Beason, Godfrey, CJ, Kalil, and even overpaid depth guys based on emotion and sentiment, he also drafted poorly than most GMs in the whole of the league, ok he picked up some diamonds but his mid round depth picks and wider receiver specifically were epically bad! Now when DG got into town I can guarantee he had like a three year plan as he has even said by the ed of 2015 we should be out of this cap mess and atleast have balanced books, there's no way he anticipated we go 12-5 last year, I know I didn't and especially after going 1-3, we overperfomred which has made his job a hell of a lot harder because it's risen the fans expectations whereas realistically we are kind of a team that's looking to build in some importmst positions like The line and receivers, you can't expect fans to be realistic and patient when you come off a winning season it's just not going to happen. But the hate and dislike for DG this offseason so far had been a little bit over the top and actually shows how many bandwagon fans we have acquired.

I agree with the last part 100%, and most of all of it. While certainly questionable, I can't tally down anything roster wise as a mistake until I actualll see proof on the field. What appears to be a mistake now could end up being a smart move. Can't tell at this point

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
