Draft day shocker - prediction

I know Gettleman says they'll go BPA but you'd have to think they can't ignore the WR position for that long....

Everyone claims they draft BPA

Everyone also looks at the needs, surplus and issues on there roster on draft day too

BPA is always impacted by team specific factors. BPA varies team by team bc they all have different needs. Sometimes a BPA is so glaring you go true BPA but BPA is largely a team specific thing IMO.

He will take the BPA for Carolina. The for Carolina part is why we will look at things different than other teams.

But again needs automatically assumes that he will only take the best player at a position of need.  He knows that with injuries being a real issue, any position can be a position of need including running back and quarterback.  He won't be there but I promise you if Manziel were there at 28 we would jump on him.

Yes our board will be our board not some talking head's, but you suggested that we would take a WR around the 3rd round and I am saying that if there is a WR we think is the BPA at 28 we will take him.  Conversely we won't reach to draft 1 just because we need some.  We needed corners last year and picked up White as a UDFA and he started some games.  We didn't jump on one in the first couple of rounds.

Looking at that and letting that make your decision are very different things. If you have 3 guys ranked the same and 1 is at a position of need then you take that guy.  But if 1 guy is much better than another then you improve your team and look for a guy at the position of need after first cuts or further down the road.

You assume that 1 guy is BPA and most times boards are set up with a group of guys at different positions all with similar grades so you have a choice of several not just 1.  So BPA can cover several positions.

I think it is a very gray area.

I think most teams rank players. Then when they get to there draft pick they look at everyone ranked in that area of the draft. Maybe a DT technically grades out the best but they have a CB who has a very similar grade......I think teams in good standing at DT and weak at CB grab the CB.

Regardless if where you pick outside of the top 5....you will have a bunch of guys with comparable grades all together. So unless your at be top of round 1 you will always be looking at a large group of guys with comparable grades.

Our team wanted to build from the front to back on D.....so I would assume that impacts there draft picks. Philosophy, needs, etc....it isn't just one thing. But what Carolina is and wants to do.....should impact their drafting style.

Gettlemen also has been clear you build through the draft.....therefore you can't just take a G every round if that is the way a BPA ranking suggests it with no regard to a specific team philosophy, scheme, needs, etc.

Scheme alone causes boards to be different. BPA different positions often has to do with team scheme and philosophy.
