Red Cross Dilemma

Panthro

Recommended Posts

I've donated blood on occasion (nothing regularly) but recently I have been called by the Red Cross twice a day over the last few weeks. It is now bordering on harassment. I feel bad because I know the good that they do but I also get irritated by the nonstop calls.

I hate that they are making me hate them

Bloody Irritated

First of all thanks for donating blood!! Many people need it, being the parent of a 3 yo leukemia patient I know first hand how important it is for the survival of all people under going chemo and radiation treatments. Please be patient with them, they only trying to save lives, my little angel included!!

I've donated about 3 gallons lifetime and know how annoyed you are. I first asked to be put on the do not call list, then blocked the numbers with the iOS feature when that didn't work. I also had to add them to my gmail spam list. I still give when I can. I choose to not be bothered about it.

The real issue is how inconvenient they make the donation. I can fill the bag in about 6 minutes but every time I go it takes at least an hour and sometimes 2. They need to have a frequent donor program where u can walk in, say nothing has changed since the last time, have your iron and blood pressure checked, and hop in the chair. It would be a half hour visit including waiting in the canteen if they would do that, and I would be there every 8 weeks like they want.

Man, I can sympathize. I live in Atlanta and they have volunteers out on Peachtree St. almost every day in my neighborhood during the summer. I always tell them that I've donated blood and regularly donate through the Red Cross to support disaster relief in places like Joplin. I always thank them for what they are doing. Yet they continually harass the crap out of me even after I've told them what I've done for the American Red Cross. I guess they see me as someone that they don't need to convince, and that I'll just give to whatever they are raising money for on that given day. But yeah, it annoys the crap out of me and makes me want to stop doing anything for them. Even the homeless crackheads that I encounter every day know that "Sorry dude" means don't ask me again for anything. One of these days I am gonna lose it. Bloody irritated is right.

The good thing about this is there are people in the world that know what is important and what is not and when to complain and when to be thankful.

I'm not questioning "Why" they do it but the "How"

Like I said I was torn to gripe about this because of all the good that they do. It sucks because I am also not the only one who feels this way. If I were I would chalk it up to me being a horrible person...but I do donate I just don't like doing it as much as they would like.

this for sure

and yes on the changed phone number thing.  They used to email me constantly...Canadian Blood Services anyway...and I just dumped their email to spam and my world got quiter!

Good on all of you that donate though...so many people don't and it's a shame really.

    • Who is "they"?  Who in the media still argues that Bryce Young could reach the levels that people thought he would before the draft? I mean, nobody is going to come outright and bash the kid.  By all accounts he's a good dude and I think that is why you don't see the media come after him like they did Zach Wilson.
    • It started during the Denver game after that first drive. i don’t think the panthers got a first down again until the fourth quarter.
    • The Panthers will finish with at least 7-8 wins.  So that leaves them with only two "smart" choices in my opinion: 1. Sign a reasonably priced free agent QB and see if they are better than Bryce Young in training camp - The issue is there will be very little options.  There is almost no way the Colts let Daniel Jones walk.  Rodgers, Flacco, and Wilson will likely retire (and is Wilson better than Bryce anyway?).  Winston is under contract with the Giants for another year.  That leaves Mariota, which I'm all for, but the Commanders will make a big push to keep him given Daniels' injury history.  Outside of him, there is literally nobody else. 2. Stick with Bryce Young for one more year - Nobody wants this to happen, but the Panthers won't be in a position to draft one in the first round and it isn't a strong class to begin with.  Mendoza, Simpson (and do we really want an Alabama QB?), and Moore will likely all be off the board by the time we pick.  Bryce isn't good, but we are still 5-4.  I'd rather continue to build the rest of the team than reach for a QB.  Then we could set ourselves up nicely in 2027 to make a splash play if we choose.  This is how we should have approached years past; stuck with Kyle Allen or Sam Darnold or Teddy Bridgewater and kept building the team until we were ready to make a splash.  But every year we panicked and did something stupid. There is the idea you could throw a dart at a guy in the later arounds, but IMO this just isn't a good QB class and odds are it will be a wasted pick.  I still think we need a lot of depth on the defense.  I'd rather focus there.
