Panthers sign Ed Dickson

Ravens fans are saying he's extremely unreliable and drops everything. Dunno if that's lost free agent bitterness or legit.

100% legit. I'm very familiar with a handful of teams, mostly because of my roommates. Ravens fans hate this guy. He has a severe dropping problem.

YESSSSSSSSS!!!

FUGGING YESSSSSS!!!

DUNN DUN DUNN....DUN DUN DUN!!!

Now this is a FA signing that has me stoked!

Cason and Underwood - scrubs, IMO / good for depth

Harper - too much of a liability in coverage

J-Co and Avant - good signings for the short term but hard to get excited about two vets at the end of their careers. Like someone earlier in the thread said, it's like "loading up on 10 year old polo shirts at the thrift store. Nice!"

But IMO Dickson is an elite passing TE prospect just hitting his prime when he turns 27 as August rolls around. I realize he hasn't blown up / realized his potential in his 4 seasons in the NFL with a 25/26/27/28-year-old Joe Flacco, but Flacco sucks. I'm stoked to see what Dickson can do with Cam. I would not be surprised to see Dickson emerge as a Top Ten NFL passing-catching TE. I'm excited! I've been wrong plenty about prospects before (and maybe i had too much coffee), but spending just $730,000 to take a swing for the fences on an a guy with tons of upside hitting his prime like Dickson is good stuff. My only worry is that if/when he does great this season, he'll be leaving us to get paid like Ginn, Munnerlyn and Mike Mitchell did

Really liked Dickson coming out of Oregon. Didn't do as well as I thought he'd do and have multiple Ravens' fans telling me he's nothing special however, with Olsen on the field at the same time I think Dickson can improve our offense.

My thing with the one year deals is based on what happened last year, we might not be able to keep Dickson if he has a breakout year.

I actually wouldn't have minded a cheap two year deal.

We are into him for $65k.  That is it.  Cap strapped and still binging in good players.

Now all we need is Thomas "What does the dove say?" DeCoud and I would say we have had another stellar free agency period from debtor's prison.

Just to reiterate, the cap hits from these 1-year vet. min. deals we keep seeing actually get reduced to $570,000 + any signing bonus (not to exceed $65,000). So Cason, Webb, and Dickson have cap hits of $635k despite actually making $795k. And since only the top 51 contracts count, they each bump a rookie minimum salary ($495k) out of the top 51, so their net cap hit is $140k each.

    • Is this the year the Steelers finally have a losing record?? Who is Arod going to hand off too? Who besides the newly traded and paid DK is going to run routes?? Who is the TE?? Can the OL hold for 5 secs without being flagged?? TJ watt is upset and underpaid, cam heyward is 49 years old, how has Tomlin done this?? Im not a fan, but go ahead and put Toms in the HOF, Jesus he's a wizard....
    • here I feel is the greatest overlooked skill for QBs. Being able to avoid hits, guess who was the best at that- Tom Brady. If you watch enough clips, you will see Tom take one side step left or step up, it perfectly avoids the defenders pressure. The other level is, he did so before he needed to. Just a grand master.  It's simply a godlike trait and no one talks about it.  I've pooped on BY plenty, he's much better than I thought at avoiding hits while running and still learning the master art of making defenders miss in passing situations.
    • I hope peeps don't bump my draft QB ranks where I had Anthony Ricardson ranked above BY..... Add another selfburn, I had Levis right next to BY if not slightly above him a couple different ranks..... * I did have stroud clear #1... *** BUT the way trends are currently....... its too early still, but BY is pointing up at least while the others are down.... Still wish that trepper never forced that trade, but I totally get he was beyond tired of waiting for a QB savior. Dang tepper, if you had the coaching staff, either Baker or Sam Darnold would have been the guy.
