Under DG Giants never drafted OL in 1st round

He was a director of personnel and was responsible for pretty much evaluating draft picks.  Some of the Giants OL probowlers were late round picks.  He always valued CB's and WR more.  Giants also had one of the best, most consistent OL in the NFL.

 

DG build a good OL in New York without spending big bucks in free agency or early draft picks.

 

This is just something to consider.

 

It doesn't mean anything but past history can shed a light into the future.

Yes he was Director of Pro Personnel. And yes, he did scout draft picks as a trusted confidante. Absolutely!

 

However, Jerry Reese made the decisions, no matter what Getttleman suggested (as happens most times when you have final say/are in charge). No, this doesn't dismiss what you say/the outcome. It's just that your reasoning seems so assured based off such high speculation. 

 

So yes, it's possible to draw some inferences. But it's certainly not absolute due to who was in control.

Yes.  With the Giants he was in charge of pro personnel, not college.  Not quite accurate to say those decisions were made 'under Gettleman'.

 

Prior to the Giants, he was a college scout for 11 years with the Bills and Broncos. And while it's not correct to say gettleman was in charge of those decisions either, those teams had strong lines.

 

Throw in that Gettleman himself has stated that "you win with big men" was one of the things he picked up from Tom Coughlin.  Whether they picked them high or not, t The Giants of the past several years had great O-lines.

I know it's crapshoot but he was a part of a very successful culture for 15 years. I figured he would bring this culture to Carolina.

 

He's certainly working at it.  Gettleman is the reason why players are required to wear suits to games.

 

On the draft though, if you go by what Gettleman himself has said, you'll get the impression he's far less inclined to spend a first round on a wide receiver than he is an OL.

Their Oline has been below average for about 2-3 years now and was absolutely mediocre last season. Was this supposed to make me happy?

Their OL sucked ass last year and that's after drafting LT in 1st round. Their OL was top 12 for many years, I checked stats before I made this thread.

Yeah but the last 2-3 seasons the line continually regressed.

 

Eli has been under crazy pressure. His ability to evade pressure in the pocket covered up the holes a bit but last year was an all time low.

 

Plus Pugh was good in the 2nd half of the season. The vets tho.....

      Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.

      I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.

      Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
