Carolina Panthers Training Camp Update

Jul 29 2013 01:26 PM Zod Carolina Panthers
Really good practice today at Wofford. The weather wasn't to hot, and the mosquitoes were manageable.

When I arrived Star Lotulelei was getting some one on one mentoring from a defensive coach. He was fine tuning his hand placement and shedding blocks. Star appears to be self motivated and a student of the game. These two things are as important as his physical traits, if not more so.

Luke Kuechly stopped on the way in to sign a few autographs. The fans love this guy. Luke appears to go to the kids first for autographs, as he should.

Rivera lit a fire under the team today. He apparently wanted a more uptempo practice. Very little time was taken between snaps, sometimes not even allowing players to leave the field after their rotation.

The offensive line remains my biggest concern. I have to think Gettleman is on the phone and the wire daily.
Posted Image

Cam continues to have his best camp yet. He is clowning around less, and showing more leadership. I think he may be maturing a bit.
Posted Image

Barner is a shifty guy. He is 5'9 which isn't very short, but he runs much lower than that. He disappears easily behind the offensive line and gives the defensive players only shoulder pads and legs to grab on to. Good stuff.

Greg Olsen is far and away our best Tight End. I am struggling to find something about the other guys worth mentioning.
Posted Image

Gettis had an up and down day. While he did ok in individual drills, he had some drops when being defended. He is also very slow to get up after hitting the ground. I just don't know if this guy has the grit needed for the NFL.
Posted Image

The good news is Brandon Lafell is having his best camp so far. He is catching everything near him and following it through with YACs.
Posted Image

You just can't help but pull for Pilares. That guy gives it everything he has on every play. He just needs to improve his consistency with positive results.
Posted Image

For some reason Armond Smith did a TD "point to the sky" move during a typical routine drill. Made me laugh, don't know why.
Posted Image

There is some good news regarding the offensive line. They were able to open up some pretty big holes today for the running backs.
Posted Image

The offensive line a few times had a hard time containing Star. Jeff Byers here isn't showing effective technique I don't think.
Posted Image

I like Lafell's LSU shoes and gloves. I don't like our secondary being abused by them.
Posted Image

Jerry RIchardson and Jerry West. I am pretty pumped up that I got to meet West. My dad, who is from WV, will be more pumped up.
Posted Image

Blackburn saw time today with the starting LB's. He is listed at 6'3 but seems much taller than that. He also has a great motor and is vocal on the field.
Posted Image

Ginn and HIxon's stock was on the rise today. Both made some really nice grabs under tight coverage. They may be pulling away from the pack. Armanti had a nice touchdown catch, but I notified him that he only had one foot in bounds. He laughed a bit.

Zod can you confirm or deny this earth shattering report?!

If this is true, and I do not doubt it, I love Dorsey.

If that's true, I do not know how I feel about it. I thought Cam was progressing. If this is not the case, I dunno how I feel about it.
That doesnt make any sense

That reads like a fanfic.

Oh my god this idiot Dolphins fan is just trying to stir poo

After a QB drill, Cam took a knee in a shadowed area beside shrubs. Dorsey and Cam teased each other briefly and that was it

JJ cleared it up. Thank God.

I knew it fanfic hater material, waste of my time reading it.

I didn't hear it at all so whatever was said wasn't at a loud volume. JJ sounds accurate. There is a lot of playful jawing all day long out there by everyone.

. . .urge to use powers for evil against retarded fans of other teams. . .rising. . .

So who wants to be the one to tell Star that mullets are lame? Anyone?....... Me neither.

I'll take one for the team, lol!

Why is Amini on the right side of the line next to Bell?

He pulls quite a bit in the run game.

Besides, if Cam taking a knee during drills he's not involved in is a lack of leadership then he might as well start doing all the coaching too.
MHS you're probably so pissed right now

Wow microscope is an understatement...im sure if cam sneezes hes automatically out for the season with swine flu....people need to grow up!

You've gotta expect a certain amount of transition between coaches.

Shula and Chudzinski might not have cared if Cam took a knee, but apparently Dorsey does care.

Newton didn't know. Now he does.

Lesson learned and we all move forward.

Uh, did you read? It was false. They were joking.

Maybe so. That's not the point.

I'm saying even if it were completely serious, it's still not a big deal.

I expect plenty more BS like this the rest of the year. Its not gonna stop anytime soon.

Problem is it isn't just the media who waits to pounce, but people in our own fanbase too. Any excuse.

How hard is it to get your kid in the Panther Pals? I'm taking my 6 year old down with me tomorrow and this would make his year.

Just register him (I'm sure you're already here - this is for everyone reading this). It's a random draw. We select five kids at most public practices.

Upcoming dates are:

Thursday, Aug. 1

Friday, Aug. 2

Monday, Aug. 5

Tuesday, Aug. 6

Wednesday, Aug. 7

Thursday, Aug. 8

Monday, Aug. 12

It's for kids ages 6-13, but they can take one person 18 or older with them. It's free to register.
