Deangelo Williams Hitting His Stride

Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Marshawn Lynch, Arian Foster... all running backs who are being out performed by the Carolina Panthers own Deangelo Williams.
Deangelo quietly ranks 4th in the entire NFL, yet you won't hear his name in the media.

With the promotion of Mike Shula to Offensive Coordinator, the Carolina Panthers doubled down on a running game still being important in a passing league. A risky move, but it appears to have some early returns. The Panthers have the second ranked rushing attack in the entire NFL.
An amazing accomplishment given that Jonathan Stewart has been unavailable due to injury.
By far Deangelo's most efficient running has been to the left edge with blocks provided by Jordan Gross where Deangelo is averaging a whopping 6.9 yards a carry. Interestingly, his second most efficient running is behind the right guard, who this season has been a mix of players.
In a career with highs and lows, health and injuries, Deangelo has kept the right attitude.
It remains to be seen if a premier rushing attack can again elevate teams to the NFL playoffs. No one is more hopeful than Ron Rivera and Mike Shula, who have wagered on this notion with their jobs on the line.

i doubt he'll get much attention until he finds his way into the endzone.
bad thing for him in that regard is he's pretty much the 'between the 20's' guy. they've got other plans for other guys when they get in the red zone or at the end zone.
he has been really impressive, tho.
The whole recent notion that this is a passing league and therefore good running attacks aren't important is negated by the fact that 6 of the top 10 rushing teams made the playoffs in 2012. And 3 of the four teams that played in the Championship games last year were on this list. The other Baltimore was 11th on the list.
He is as solid as they come. He will be the Williams of old by season's end

I think the notion is....if you build your team right you don't need to spent tons of money on your backfield.
Favorable Schedule as well, If Cam and Ginn keep it up he should consistently get good yardage per game........hopefully when Stewart gets back he gets 8-10 carries and majority of the passing plays along with barner
I'd kinda' hate to ruin the good thing we've got going with Deangelo when Stew comes back... D-Lo seems to be in rhythm right now.
Actually we do need Stewart especially in the middle part of the season when where going to face tough defenses. Stewart can run inside the tackle better than Tolbert e has better speed to hit the hole and can be used to get our drives going to give rhytm to the offense,soften up the defense and eat clock towards end of the game
Tolbert & Cam would be our short yard situation and use William to stretch the edge & hit home runners. We just have to stay committed to the run game and let the Offensive line continue to Gel.
NFL Network just had him listed as 3rd in yardage
It's going to be interesting to see what we do at the RB position next season with D Will, J Stew and Barner. Barner, to me is a younger, faster and better catching out of the backfield D Will. We seem to me to be putting ourselves in position to cut or trade D Will and roll with Stew as our starter and Barner as our change of pace back, which I would disagree with. D Will is the type of back that I wouldn't cut. He has a very low fumble rating and is a good all around back. To me, being a good back that doesn't fumble often is the type of back I'd want to keep.
As far as fumbling goes...he isn't the same never fumble guy he was from rookie to peaking 2008 guy. He drops it about in pace with any RB now.

He doesn't have any burst left, and his total yards are a product not of a high ypc but an unsustainable number of touches.
I'm gonna do a thread about it when I have time but his first three games are gold dust.
Yep, when Barner's toenail grows in and he gets on the field.....people will see burst. Young blood at work.
Williams is running better than last year. He is picking up 2-3 or so consistently instead of going down at the line. Makes a difference vs the guy we saw last year
you could say that about any running back...hell week one AP had 78 yards on one carry and 17 carries for 15 yards the rest of the game and last week vs the jax of all teams lynch had 27 yards on one play and 42 yards on 16 carries for the rest of the game. Dwill may not have father time on his side but he is as effective as any running back in the league right now.

Disagree. He is being used wisely. He isn't as effective as any RB in the league.....which is why other RBs have more than just rush yards. They have rush TDs, they have receiving yards, they have rec TDs.
Williams isn't what he was. They are using him MUCH wiser than Chud did. Which is good
