Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Maybe its a hot take but in my opinion after we solidify QB1 we’ll likely be more savvy with the QB2 position like other teams. They’re more doing what they think is best for bryce to take the next step than trying to field the best QB2 talent wise out there.

Of course he's not the literal worst. But the problem is the price the team paid and the fact he's nearly 40. If you're going to keep around a low end backup go with a younger cheaper option. I mean as much as we say Jack Plummer is cheeks the guy is making very little by comparison.

I think Panthers fans are going to be in for quite the wake up when Dalton isn't the backup. He is far from the worst.

Howell should be a decent backup but at this point it is worth questioning if there is anything else at play given the number of times he's been traded. And to springboard from that it's almost laughable looking at how many other teams are playing musical chairs with their QB rooms continually churning and not being complacent while the lowly Panthers have been content with two of the worst backups in the league.
