The roster is a lot better this year than last year IMO. Especially on defense. That said, it is still a very talent deficient roster on paper and understand why people say it is at or near the bottom. This team desperately needs to draft better and develop players. One thing I am anxious to see is if some of the 2nd year players take the next step. There was promise last year with some contributors in Wallace, Smith-Wade, and Richardson on defense but with it being a historically bad defense it is hard to get a read on how good these guys are or can be. On offense I like XL but think he needs to buy a Jugs Machine instead of a horse and work on the drops. It would also be nice to see Coker take the next step forward.

While availability is always the best quality a player can have, you still have to pay for talent, leadership, etc.

I feel both of those, however minus last night, you missing some pretty elite hockey. im also watching Eckblad play becasue he very well could be a future cane along side of Slavin. -
I think it's just a matter of opinion. For example CBS has the Pats as the worst team entering the 2024 season (yes we were number 2). We were definitely bottom tier, but there can be an argument made for other crappy teams. Especially the ones that finished behind us. Hell people on here are literally arguing about it.
-
Although, on a good deal, will never complain about adding talent.
-
Not to mention DB missed the entire season so he is technically a new starter this year vs last. By far our best defender and one of the best in the league.
-
Good debate. NOW I agree with you, but if you asked me last year at any time before November.... I think our defense was horrible, but the offensive skill positions, when compared to others last year, was equally weak. WR? AT should not (at his age) be your best WR. XL struggled, and a UDFA was pulled up to salvage the WR room when Johnson left. Our best TE was Tremble. We had Hubbard, but behind him, Sanders sucked. Our QB began the season (first 2 games) throwing for a COMBINED 245 yards with 3 interceptions and 6 sacks. it was abysmal. I mean, the souvenir shop started selling black nooses with the nike logo on the back and "Just do it" in small blue lettering. I really like what Morgan is doing now. He gets it. His eye for defensive players is obvious (I think he has found a few eventual starters in the past 2 drafts in the third round and later: Ramsom (4), Wallace (3), Princely (3), RIchardson (UDFA), and maybe even Cam Jackson (6). To find 5 eventual starters for the defense in rounds 3-UDFA in 2 years is impressive. That is how you build the roster.

Im not watching the finals lol sick of florida and no way I'll root for a Canadian team -
It's amazing looking at boards like the Saints where they are huffing hopium despite a roster anyone from the outside knows is garbage. We have posters acting like this is the worst roster of all time... Well, this offense was 11th in points from Week 9 on, brought back our entire Oline, added Dowdle as a backup who had 1300+ yards, drafted McMillan & Horn, and are bringing back a QB with the 6th highest rating when he returned. Of course defense is still a massive question, but we are bringing back a top 5 DT in additions to bringing in probably 5 new starters. Also, look at defensive variance by year. Very, very few teams stay bad (or good) on defense for extended periods of time like offense. Anyone who wants to be negative is entitled to their view... this team has been bad for years. But I've watched this team since Day 1. This roster headed into this season is much better than some people are willing to see.

1000%. XL never felt like a Dan pick. Same with Brooks. This last draft felt like a draft orchestrated by a former NFL star. XL and Brooks felt like the same Mickey Mouse ish we had seen for years. I know we’ll never know for sure, though.
-
Maybe on defense. I honestly cannot take anyone serious who would trade the Giants offense for ours... what are we doing here??!! Some of you people are delusionally pessimistic... this roster is nowhere as bad as some of you would like to imagine
-
Not to mention the Bengals defense was awful. Someone has to get the tackles but I’ve heard from several people Pratt is slow for a ILB. Evero needs sideline to sideline speed from his ILBs. That’s why Wallace was so appealing to him despite being pretty raw.
-
Then he needs to stop drafting projects. Everyone knew XL was raw.

Good question. Some are rotational, but my guess? (New starters in Bold, key depth in blue) Edge/OLB: Wonnum, Scourton (we might see Jones at first, but he would also be a new starter). Key Rotational depth: Princely DT/NT: Bobby Brown. Key Rotational Depth: Cam Jackson,Tuttle. DE: D. Brown, Wharton, Robinson, Ray (Man we need to cut Ray) ILB: Jewell, Wallace, Rozeboom, Cherelus CB: Jackson, Horn, Smith-Wade, Bartholomew, Evans. S: Moehrig, Ransom. Key depth: Richardson, Scott (I am guessing Scott will lose his job to an UDFA) My guess would be 5 on defense. On Offense? I see only Tet McMillan as a new starter, with M. Evans (TE), Horn (WR), and Etienne (RB) getting some looks in rotations.

By the way, when I read that a 29-year old LB is taking "poor angles" and "missing tackles" (despite his stats) I wonder if he has lost a step. Not saying he has and I agree that he would make us better on the inside, but you have to think about the rebuild--does he take away from developing players (Wallace and Cherelus, for example)?
-
-
Far apart means expensive, not a chance. I didn’t like Horn’s contract because I don’t think he’s proven to be the top CB salary wise (at the time) and even in his 2 healthy years he still missed 6 games. That said, Horn at least is coming off his most healthy season and is 25 whereas Jaire has missed 10 games in each of the past two years and is 28.
-
This likely will not happen. We have Jewell with a decent cap hit, they like Wallace and want to see if he can be a starter for us, and just signed Rozeboom who was very solid for the Rams last season. Does not make a lot of sense to waste cap with three guys already penciled in as starters/depth.
-
Thielen extends drives and gives the offense another set of downs. I think he had something like 5 3rd/4th down conversions in the Eagles game. Without that, they blow us out and we probably don’t score 10 points. Not a yac guy, but he’s still a good medium range option. As other receivers come on I expect his snap count to decrease but guys like Thielen are so valuable. Teaching The intricacies of taking the game to the next level to the young guys.
-
So adding more players of that age to the group might not be appealing.
-
Rather have Pratt than Jaire. Pratt would help solidify the LB group in a big way IMO.
-
I hear you, buuuut.... Rozenboom is 28 (1 year deal) and Jewell is 30.

The Dribble-Twerk Slayer coming to a theater near you.

Here is what I think (and I agree): They like ILB and Rozeboom is good depth. Cherelus was solid for a reserve (PFF score 63.8 in 158 snaps). They like what they have seen from Ransom and Richardson at S so far, so we could have 3 starting-caliber safeties--no sense burying the young guys. (I think we are going to like our Safeties as they are--I also think we will add one of our UDFA with great ST abilities. They signed some really good athletes as UDFA safeties). I just do not see Scott making the roster if they watch any of his 2024 film. At CB, they think they have 3 with two who played a little bit last year (each had fewer than 35 snaps--they held their own--both scoring in the upper 50s on PFF). I think, if we add a player, we add a young CB much later who was cut during the preseason. I believe they want a preseason to see what they have in Bartholomew and Evans and Thornton, for that matter.

Think he'd likely take from Wallace not Jewell.
