Defensive Tackle: The Need that Shall Not be Named
Adb6368 replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is why kayden McDonald is on my priority list in round 1 even if that’s a bit of a stretch -
You don’t need a retort for everything. Which, I am still trying to learn how to put that into practice. That is sort of hard for me to say as I haven’t even seen Simpson play more than a few series and that at a man cave thing we were shooting pool. The game was on. And I am generally biased, I admit it, against Alabama QBs post Joe Namath. Probably forgetting a couple of good ones over the years but generally they underperform in the NFL. But Simpson could be better than Bryce when it comes down to it. A few guys drafted after Bryce, have been. Right now I would say Bryce is better than a moderately talented rookie, for a single season but I can’t see the future especially not having really watched Simpson. All I know about Bryce is he has played to a good NFL level a handful of times a couple of years running. So he has that in the bank. But he doesn’t make enough deposits to pay the bills. There was no stacking going on. Wins, yardage, TD passes, points, impressive performances. It is the big leagues. People that really shine do stuff he has not done.

Defensive Tackle: The Need that Shall Not be Named

They will probably draft someone but I could definitely see them add Dj Reader or someone else after the draft too. -
Smitty just isn't ever gonna grow up. Refuses to apologize for "things in his personal life" because people need to mind their own business. Evidently minding your own business doesn't apply to Smitty because one of the first rules of minding your own business is not fuging other people's wives. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16UbAbycei/

BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett

At the end of the day it's much easier to take this position in March. We'll see how you feel in December if our passing output is still hovering around bottom 5 or 10 in the league. -

I really like Caleb Banks physical tools, but those foot injuries are a cause for concern. If he were to drop to our pick in the 2nd round, I'd be more open to taking that risk. -
I mean I'd like to add a monster TE as much as anyone else but ultimately what use will that serve with a QB who had 54 passing yards in 4 quarters at one point last season? Defense defense defense.

Personally I think he's a nightmare to cover I think linebackers generally aren't fast enough to keep up with him in coverage and cornerbacks don't have the strength to tackle him one-on-one in physically bring them down which would normally lead to a broken tackle or a nasty stiff arm or just bully ball play sure you could find a receiver with comparable speed like Cooper but he's faster than Cooper sure you can find a wide receiver that is the same size but he's probably More powerful than them and a better blocker. The size speed athleticism package that he is in is completely unique it's easier to say I'd rather have just a big blocker because we've never seen this type of profile before I'm a risk taker I think you would be God blessed if this was there at 19 I think if you can get a guy that's a tight end who immediately becomes the fastest guy on your offense and at the same time that third wide receiver that can stretch and burn defenses over the top that's the perfect what the Panthers need type weapon. -

I think you're under selling Sadiq. They are two different players in terms of how they win. Loveland is 2 inches taller maybe 5-6 pounds heavier. Comparing his speed to sadiq.. well your comparing a 4.7 guy to a 4.3 guy I'm seeing a guy that can take a bubble screen from the tight end position and turn it into a house call. I'm not saying the guy is a certified home run pick but I don't think there's really a president's for a comparison for this kind of athlete. It's easy to say this doesn't look like Warren or Loveland because we haven't seen guys that fit this profile The closest you might be able to get is Vernon Davis. He's not as sure far as those guys were but at 19 I think almost everybody is going to have some warts and he's a lottery ticket of could be top 10 in the draft player or could fail I am more of a risk taker I think he fits the athletic profile that could be a homerun, like I said he's almost 40 lb bigger than Cooper and like 4-5 in taller than Cooper so and he's faster. So whatever you think Cooper gives you I think he does that and more. If you want to go with one of the office alignment I can understand that as well but for value as a receiving threat I don't think there's a bigger value at number 19. -

Tight End: The Need is Bigger than We Think

I’ve haven’t seen anything that says we have interest in Njoku? -
I think the Njoku interest revealed intent and the type of TE they want. I really expected more from Sanders.

Defensive tackle (or end in a 3-4 base) is suddenly a rather significant need. It seems to be a forbidden topic on the Huddle. Well I am going to unforbidden it for this thread. When we lost Robinson, it was a salary cap cutting move, saving us about $9m or so, I think. That suggests that we are going to get cheaper, younger, and maybe, more multi-dimensional. First, what did we lose in Robinson: (Charlotte Observer) "Robinson co-led the team in sacks (5.5) in 2024, and he ranked second among Carolina linemen, behind Brown, in sacks (2.5) in 2025. (Derrick) Brown played on 76.4% of the Panthers’ defensive snaps last year, while Robinson played on 62.2% of those reps. No other defensive lineman played more than 38.3%, as free-agent addition, Turk Wharton, dealt with injuries throughout his first season in Carolina. Wharton played in just nine games, producing 36 total tackles and two sacks. He’s guaranteed $14 million this upcoming season. Read more at: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article314544998.html#storylink=cpy OK, about Turk Wharton. The Observer claims that he and Bobby Brown III were to rotate into the Robinson DE position, but that is too weird for my head to comprehend. First, Brown III is a NT by trade and Wharton weighs about 280 lbs and is not stout vs. the run. Brown III is not going to provide the internal pass pressure; he is basically designed to take on double teams and dig in. Wharton, on the other hand, had a PFF score in those 9 games of 40 or so. In fairness, he was playing with injuries, but Damn. PFF gives me a higher rating at the Golden Corral buffet. In other words, we need a true DT who can fill the two thirds of snaps that we just released. We can't count on Turk and Brown III is not the answer. Cam Jackson? Same as Brown. Have your people do what they do best. Furthermore, Derrick Brown probably should limit his snaps. Playing more than 3/4 of the snaps is hard on the body. A tired player in the trenches is more prone to lower-body injuries. We need a player who can give Derrick Brown some relief and play opposite him as well. Turk can rotate in but he needs to shoot gaps and give Guards and tackles fits--a change of pace. I have to think we are going to draft DT much sooner than most Huddlers realize. My favorite, you didn't ask? Probable second-rounder Gracen Halton (No. 59 overall, according to ESPN's March 2026 update). Once considered a Day 3 sleeper, his 2026 NFL draft stock has exploded into Round 2 or 3 due to elite interior pass-rush metrics. Projected Round: 2 (Early to Mid) Key Traits: Elite explosive, quickness, 12.2%+ pass-rush win rate, and positional versatility to play inside on passing downs. Combine Highlights: Led defensive tackles in the vertical jump (36.5”) and broad jump, per Sports Illustrated. Draft Stock: Rising fast due to consistent 2025 production (7 tackles for loss) and a "freak show" combine performance, according to Stormin in Norman. Halton is considered a high-motor playmaker and a potential Day 2 standout, notes I would not be surprised to see DT on day 2.

Tight End: The Need is Bigger than We Think
*FreeFua* replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense -

You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1. Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover -
Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run

I can agree that he's not the same traditional tight end as say Warren but he's not that different from Loveland in a guy that plays more like a slot HVAC type row I don't think they're that much there He's probably not as good a route runner but with all that said none of them are the athlete that he is so it's kind of a watch there can I save for a fact that he's going to elite player probably not You're asking for a wide receiver 3 and that's kind of what this would be in a way but accept bigger and just as explosive he's faster than all the guys that you would find at this point in the draft to feel a slot need and he's a red zone weapon with size verticality and such I think he's just a bigger mismatch than those guys you name Yes your banking on potential I think he's a bigger threat to make a play after the catch just based off strength size and just dog. I can't say I know what the Panthers look for in terms of arm length at the tight end position because we haven't drafted an elite first round tight end almost ever but if I'm looking at the way they have made their moves this offseason they drafted to where they don't have to reach it need and they've addressed most of those needs and this is one of the secondary needs that fit the draft range and if available there's a good chance that's a deep will be gone by time we pick I think you're blessed if he does fall to 19 -
What you are going to see from MHS831, your "source for Panther Predictions that are Unlikely to Happen but if they did, they would be 'real cool,'" is a position-by-position breakdown of needs that we seem to have normalized. Tight End: The team is looking for a "game-breaker" and to improve upon a 24th-ranked red-zone offense. Though they have brought back their own players for depth, the organization is looking for more competition to improve the position's overall impact. In 2025, the unit averaged 8.1 yards per reception, failing to consistently stretch the field or provide a "scary" threat to opposing defenses. I think they were hoping that Sanders would be that person. He is not. I have read some Huddlers demanding the "all-around" TE, and that point is valid. However, you have to think about the focus on developing Young and the new age TE in the NFL. "The Carolina Panthers have heavily utilized multi-tight end sets, ranking among the top NFL teams in using 13 personnel (three tight ends)—a strategy they employed on 7.8% of plays during the 2025 season. Under coach Dave Canales, the team employs these formations to bolster the run game and create diverse passing matchups." This is why a seam-busting, pass-catching TE is so critically important for the Panthers. This need is perhaps much bigger than we realize. Do not discount the possibility of drafting Sadiq if he is there; I have seen him in the top 15 frequently. Too many drops for me, personally, and I am not a fan of a TE in round 1 (gotta think salary cap--grab a position that normally gets a high salary on the second contract--not a TE) Stowers in round 2 is also an option. I am intrigued by Trigg, a TE who should be drafted in the third round. Let our interest in Njoku demonstrate the kind of TE we seek right now. Do we need blocking TEs? Yes, but in a two or three WR set, maybe not as much as a traditional TE. I get the feeling we are not finished at TE. (Njoku? I am predicting that he goes to Chicago or Baltimore or Miami--Chicago #1)

I'm not disagreeing with Bryce not being elite I think he's just middle of the roads kind of guy and maybe that's all he'll ever be but that might be enough to win after what we've seen with Donald I think you have to build around that and add people who can make him look better just like Jackson Smith did with Donald they also had an elite back in the backfield that help and an elite defense. I think McMillan is nice but you don't have anyone that really strikes fear and defenses deep or anything anything to keep defensive honest I understand you feel like they neglected defense in the draft when most of the time after the first pick they stuck to their defensive guns and then you spend your entire offseason market on the defense The defense isn't really the problem The defense was drastically improved in average and you added a pro bowler and another guy who could be a top 10 rusher like how much more do you want to invest in the defense You know what was the problem we couldn't score 21 to 28 points consistently and if you're stuck with Bryce you have to find another way to make that number look better IE playmakers somebody to is a threat to score every game that can open things up That's where you get better at not just making a strength stronger like that's not the reason you lost to the Rams -

I have no retort for that. I am not 100% sold on Bryce. By my metric's at the position he doesn't meet my threshold size speed arm. But he's here now and he was a number 1 overall pick. I will bank on his talent vs say ty Simpson? -

Sadiq isn’t Brock Bowers. He’s not Colston Loveland. Not Tyler Warren or even Harold Fanin Sadiq also had a 10.5% drop rate in 2025 Sadiq isn’t much of a route runner. He’s got speed but given this offense outside of the odd seam route meh Right now we don’t really have a WR3 which is much more important to this offense than a TE. Right now if this team had to convert a 3rd down play you could make a strong case given his relationship with Bryce that Metchie would be on the field. Morgan has been aggressive in attacking our weakness in which he’s publicly stated. Pass rush and linebacker but he did also say it’s still an offensive driven league and he wants to find a speed guy that can turn a 5 yard pass into a big play… that’s Lemon and Cooper Jr -

You already addressed tackle. Walker is 26.. and by most metrics the best tackle available. He's about the same age as ickey. As far as improving the talent at QB you and everyone else would like to do that it just isn't possible this year. There is no challenging Bryce in this year's draft out side Mendoza so that's just not feasible. -
Ok, apply the same logic to QB.
