Optimistic Analysis of "Sneaky" Panther Roster Development
CanadianCat replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lets GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO -
He is a form tackler and, based on this, looks comfortable as a coverage LB. With aggressive safeties in Ransom and Moehrig, he really opens the door for some coverage options in blitz packages...He runs a 4.62 40, but he seems really instinctive---like Ransom and Moehrig--I think Dan looks at that quite closely. When I saw this I was thinking, "Special teams missile" with developmental potential. Odds are against it, frankly, but after the first round, odds are against all prospects.

go to hour mark 1:20. Great interview with Rod. Get let his hat down a little and gives perspective on the narratives out there. He hears it and knows. Glad he is our coach.
-
If that doesn't get you riled up, nothing will! With some of those hits and the hair, kinda reminds me of Troy Polamalu, not saying that he has the same talent, obviously.

Oilers gotta get back to their game. Florida really rattled them last game. -
I think they should give guaranteed contracts like the NBA and the NFL is a lot harder and the careers can be shorter

Shaq Thompson signed with Buffalo

Since we are talking LBs, I think we have 2 developmental players on the UDFA pile--Martin-Scott and this guy, one who could make the roster as a special teams player and become a rotational player later.
-
I've been skeptical of some things and the Brooks pick was a tough lesson for him. But I do like Dan Morgan a great deal and I like what he is trying to do here for the culture and I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt so long as this year and last years draft class develops well and we are trending upward this season going into 2026. Now we just need Dave Canales and staff to get to work and hold up their end of the bargain.
-
meh we got the top guard in FA last year after a 2-15 season. money talks

I finally heard her speak at the BET Awards last night I was like wow she sounds just like Xavier lol

I’m not sure Jewell is better than Pratt at this point. Jewell is under contract for another year, but his cap hit being what it is, I think this is his last year with us. Pratt could replace him.
-
I agree, and to be fair, damn near every player outside the first round is somewhat of a project. But without some patience, the first round projects are a waste of a high pick

He ranked #13 in missed tackles in 2024 according to Statmuse. 12.7% miss rate via PFF.
-
The fact that the Packers are moving on says enough for me. I just can't buy into the "one player away" esque signings until we see how this new young roster performs in the upcoming season. This is a development and evaluation year.
-
He ranked 110th out of 189 linebackers according to PFF last year. His run grade doing most of the work. He has a lot of tackles, but that can be due to skill and getting after the ball or opportunity. There are Lukes out there, but also Lavonte Davids. Big difference there. Just reporting what I read. Haven't watched his tape.

The roster is a lot better this year than last year IMO. Especially on defense. That said, it is still a very talent deficient roster on paper and understand why people say it is at or near the bottom. This team desperately needs to draft better and develop players. One thing I am anxious to see is if some of the 2nd year players take the next step. There was promise last year with some contributors in Wallace, Smith-Wade, and Richardson on defense but with it being a historically bad defense it is hard to get a read on how good these guys are or can be. On offense I like XL but think he needs to buy a Jugs Machine instead of a horse and work on the drops. It would also be nice to see Coker take the next step forward.

While availability is always the best quality a player can have, you still have to pay for talent, leadership, etc.

I feel both of those, however minus last night, you missing some pretty elite hockey. im also watching Eckblad play becasue he very well could be a future cane along side of Slavin. -
I think it's just a matter of opinion. For example CBS has the Pats as the worst team entering the 2024 season (yes we were number 2). We were definitely bottom tier, but there can be an argument made for other crappy teams. Especially the ones that finished behind us. Hell people on here are literally arguing about it.
-
Although, on a good deal, will never complain about adding talent.
-
Not to mention DB missed the entire season so he is technically a new starter this year vs last. By far our best defender and one of the best in the league.
