right or wrong but by all accounts baker was a complete immature ass that his teammates hated in Cleveland. I dont think it was ever about talent but simply him being an ass and the team was not that far removed from Johnny m and they had a chance at Watson they decided to cut the cord. So to me it looks like baker got humbled, matured, got married and alas here we are

Panthers Sign QB White to roster; Christensen on IRWaldo replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers He hurt his thumb on that first drive I thought? I knew he was going to be bad but it was still shocking. His head wasn't great in preseason either. He just looked really bad last year after his first game. Worse than the year before. It has been obvious he was aging out fast but the mental side is some Panther level BS. How do you see that as a coach and go 'let's get him signed for another 2 years' or in preseason and not saying 'umm Plumber isn't going to be enough with Dalton looking retired already'?

Panthers Sign QB White to roster; Christensen on IRkungfoodude replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers I didn't think Dalton was gonna be this bad. I was thinking around Bryce Young level bad. The perplexing thing about Sunday wasn't anything physical, it was mental. That's inexcusable as a long time, successful veteran and as a backup QB. You can't just show up and poop your pants when you get the shot. Well that was cholera.

Or the QB can't hit the broad side of a barn. Misses wide open receivers deep, fumbles, throws ugly ints... could be that too.

Panthers Sign QB White to roster; Christensen on IRWaldo replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers Sorry was in a hurry. I always saw this as a free agent need this year. They needed a #2 and not a rookie. A rookie would have been fine as a #3 but given all the other needs I completely get passing on that in the draft. I Just never liked them resigning Dalton when it was obvious he was washed. They would have had to pay more but look what they got for 4 mil a year. Might as well just gone into the year with 1 QB lol

Once the initial offensive script plays are done, woof. Feel like there's been a few games this year where the initial drive is beautiful...and then Canales can't call a decent play for possessions at a time.

I am using the term differently, neither of us are using it in the true investment industry sense of meaning. I mean basically a formerly high value asset that is now reduced in value due to their own performance. In Baker's case, that was not true at all. The Browns just soured on him and moved him at a low value to us. Jones was a little bit of a mix. He was a middle to lower tier NFL starter on a bad contract extension. I use that term for guys like Wilson, Young, etc because they seem to be largely responsible for their own shortcomings, with some caveats.

Distressed assets are quality assets that are undervalued because of current management or ownership. Mayfield seems the perfect example. Browns and Panthers were what limited him. Not him. Jones and Mayfield were acquired cheaply because of this. Young doesn't fit this unless you think hes actually much better than he appears to be.

Panthers Sign QB White to roster; Christensen on IRJmac replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers What they do best.
-
Were the worst second quarter team. -62 point differential. Yikes
-
Just a bad team .500 record is misleading. Good teams win games by taking advantage of end of first half and beginning of second half situations to build leads. Not surprisingly our biggest weakness.
-
A high ceiling and/or highly drafted QB that didn't pan out with the initial or subsequent teams. Mayfield was not a distressed asset. The Panthers made that appear to be the case. Jones was an upper tier version of that what I am talking about but he also had success with the Giants. It was not all a mess. Think more of a Zach Wilson/Bryce Young/Sam Darnold classic bust.

Panthers Sign QB White to roster; Christensen on IRWaldo replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers I was talking about free agents and not that draft. It was a terrible QB draft.
-
Okay, okay. I get it. I will say that the pitch there was for two ADDITIONAL options. So, one being a "scratch and dent" QB isn't as critical, especially when paired with a rookie QB. That's just more darts at the board. Not the best strategy but it's better than standing pat with Dalton and whatever these couch QB's are. Ideally, you find a capable veteran but I really don't see that as likely.
-
Sorry my joke was unclear. I was saying I didn’t want to go the distressed asset route because we already have one on the roster. (Bryce)
-
Im not sure I understand the distressed asset analogy. Daniel Jones was a distressed asset. Mayfield too. They had the abilities but had a low valuation because of their previous management. Bryce Young is limited by his own characteristics.

Panthers Sign QB White to roster; Christensen on IRkungfoodude replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers Well, two of the only QB's that have performed worse than Bryce are Gabriel and Ward. In limited time playing, only Ewers and Shough were worse than Gabriel and Ward.
