It wouldn't surprise me if USF beats Boise State. I feel like Boise is overrated this year; they're not going to have Ashton Jeanty to lean on anymore, but everyone has them taking the final playoff spot. I think the American winner (Navy? Tulane?) stands a better chance of getting that last spot.

This conversation had my hook up my old antenna and it works better than it ever did. If I can figure out which channel the game is on (if I get it) maybe I can cancel a service, haha. -

Not true at all. This is Bryce's offense designed for him to succeed. Last year was Canale's first year and it has taken time for him to understand his personnel and develop a scheme which maximizes the personnel he has. And it took time for Young to learn Canale's philosophy and scheme. So no they are on the same page and working in concert. That is why he improved each game the second half of the season. As for his deep ball at Alabama he didn't throw many as the scheme was designed for short and intermediate passes and he didn't have the great receivers Mac Jones had for example. After arguing in other posts that context and scheme matter I guess it didn't apply to Young. -
Wonder what led to them deciding to remove his appendix. I know its mostly a useless organ, but weird timing to do it right now without a cause

I think it's a combination of that and other potential HC candidates wanted nothing to do with Tepper because of how much he wanted to be in control of all aspects of the football team. -

Love Cam, but this statement right here resonates with me. The amount of times Cam would overthrow a RB on a swing pass, many times because he wanted to torpedo it in there instead of just lofting it, always drove me insane. In terms of the deep ball - we didn't have a legit deep ball threat after Smitty left for Baltimore - sorry, Tedd Ginn just running deep every play and having no other route he could run doesn't count. Didn't help we went from Chudz, a vertical passing playbook (think he ran some time of Air Coryell offense), to Mike "run, run, pass, punt" Shula. Cam did look good under Norv (Air Coryell again) and finally had a deep ball threat (DJ) until his shoulder died. After that, he couldn't really throw the ball beyond 20 yards. I actually thought Cam threw deep balls pretty well - it was the 15ish yard routes (which wouldn't have been that bad if we didn't have so many stone hands receivers) and the RB screen/swing passes that he struggled with IMO. -

It was discussed in detail at the time that the selling point of Frank Reich being hired was more about the "great coaching staff" he could bring with him. I don't think Tepper really saw Frank as the "head coach" so much as the lynchpin connecting the team to a wealth of coaching minds. Which turned out to be fool's gold and Tepper looked ridiculous because of it. -

Well sure, but if you're in NC, you would get them through a basic cable package. And if you're not in the local area, then the cost would be fair because it's comparable to needing to go to a bar to watch every week. I'll also put it this way... Of all the subscriptions I have to pay for these days (and it's way too many), it's really one of only two that I feel are a fair price that I don't mind paying, the rest are all way too high. Side note... the other is for AMC's A-List, by far the best deal in entertainment (at least if you love the movie theater experience like myself). $20 a month and can see up to 4 movies a week, 2 movies a month and you're making money on it compared to buying them individually. I passed my break even point for the year in June, so will get 6+ months of "free" movies through the end of the year. -

The NFL averages 2.2 million viewers per PRESEASON game, the HOF game had 6.9 million viewers. The NBA Finals averaged 10.3 million viewers for the Finals and 4.5 million across the playoffs overall. They aren't even comparable, the NFL makes twice as much money a year as the NBA does, of course the TV packages are going to be very different. Also, tons of fans will watch as many NFL games as possible (mainly because of Fantasy), but not a whole lot of them are going to be watching random NBA games every single night, at least not in comparison to with the NFL. -

True. But how many "great" coaches are there? Most are just good. If you give them the right players to fit their system they can produce good results but if you don't they're cooked. There's not many guys out there who truly have the ability to coach to the talent they're given and the Panthers have definitely never had any. -

Not sure if Tepper even considered that to be honest. I think when Rhule flopped hard as a guy with no NFL experience Tepper history instinctively went with the exact opposite approach with Frank and crew and went with guys with tons of NFL experience and since he knew he wanted a QB in the draft he went with a guy who was a former QB and had a reputation of being a good QB coach. I honestly don't know if there was anymore in-depth analysis on the fit than that. -

I just watch Panthers ball, so my perception is skewed by that. I don't care about watching other games, so from that stand point, football always seemed "free". I see your point, just clarifying from my view. -

Great coaches adapt their scheme to the personnel they have instead of trying to force players into a scheme that doesn't evolve. -

This was my big concern about Bryce in terms of his actual play, not regarding his measurables/pure talent level concerns. Watching him play at Bama he was throwing to a lot of wide ass open receivers. I just didn't see a lot in his play that I could take and directly translate onto an NFL field. It really seemed all the analysts fell into a deep group think echo chamber and convinced themselves that this QB savant was going to overcome all of his physical talent shortcomings simply by being so brilliant. I've never seen such a physically limited QB prospect completely dupe the football world and it baffled me at the time and still baffles me today. All the struggles we've seen from Bryce in the NFL seemed very predictable based on his college play. -

I used to love an entire Sunday on the couch with Red Zone before I had kids but man o man those days are long gone. I'm lucky if I can sit on the couch and watch 10 consecutive minutes of any football game. Fatherhood came for me at the same time the team started dropping wet sloppy dumps on the football field every Sunday so probably it's a good thing I can't watch all the games. Also second note on Red Zone, I'm an Andrew Siciliano supporter and once they got rid of his version of Red Zone I was done. The pace of Scott Hansen's red zone is way too disjointed and random, I gave it a shot last year for a free trial and I couldn't follow each game like I could with Siciliano's pacing. Plus Siciliano's voice was nicer to listen to like a warm towel and he would throw out cheeky comments about bad teams which always made me laugh. -

Easy - because Frank didn't have a choice. Tepper 100% wanted Bryce and that was never going to change. The better question is why did Tepper hire Frank knowing Bryce was not fit for his system -
All depends on if they actually start Yninjamin or do the actually intelligent thing and start Christenson.

I mean, maybe but it’s out of market viewers only and they certainly make the bulk of their $ from national games anyways. They won’t agree to it because fans will still just pay the $400 for the full package as there are no other options.

Or i could just go to one of the many "high seas" websites and watch the game. Or just go to a bar - there are enough that have bottled cheap beers for $4-5 or a bucket of cheap beers for like $20. Not sure why anyone pays for the NFL package in today's age -
When it comes to NFL prospects I really don't care. Yeah, all things being equal I'd prefer the UNC prospect over all others. But ultimately I just want the best prospects and the Panthers' results on the field clearly show we haven't been doing a great job of identifying the best prospects.
