  2. I think there actually is a strategy to dealing with the "problem." At least IMO. Figure out the success rate of position by round, where the average of each is drafted, and which colleges produce contributing position players regardless of draft position. Then build your draft board like you always would based off talent. See how players fit into the draft predictor, and then track how it unfolds. All those little pieces can help you figure out who to take and where they might fall and get you on the front end of runs instead of chasing scraps. Fitterer could never figure this out and was the worst at reading a draft I have ever seen.
  3. There are some real dog poop tackles starting on teams out there. While he may not ever be a top tier tackle, he has been more than serviceable I'm my opinion and offers great flexibility. We should be making him a good offer. OL is where you should be more than willing to invest dollars.
  4. Icky was always a weak pass blocker come out of college. Cross was the premier pass blocker in that class. Much easier to learn run blocking than pass blocking. I never expected Icky to ever become an elite pass blocker. If he was average, that's all I really expected. I did expect him to be an absolute mailer in the run game.
  5. We aren’t in danger of being in the basement anymore and if we keep drafting well we could get to the playoffs after a while. I don’t mind if we get a new QB and coach eventually but we are “stable” and I’m grateful for it.
  6. I prefer 9-8. Reason being, winning season shows overall improvement and is the 1st step to establishing a winning culture. Backing into the playoffs with a losing record doesn't show you earned anything. It's the product of a weak division. If playoffs were based off records, most likely you're not going because another team(s) have a better record. Chances are too, the next season, you're going to have a tougher schedule and a couple of those bounces that went your way are going to go the other direction and it's another losing season and no playoffs. There have been 5 teams to get into the playoffs with a losing record. The 2014 and 2025 Panthers are 2 of those teams. Losing record trip 3 isn't exactly something I would be proud of doing. We have 9 playoff appearances so far, 2 of them simply because we won a shitty division. Another one would mean 30% of our appearances are only because we were the least stinky turd. That's a stat I'd want to flush.
  7. I think he is a guy we can't let walk. They will overpay him to get him to stay, it won't be crazy but I doubt people here will be happy about it.
  8. Speaking of potential trades, Person said in his article today that Dalton could be a low cost trade candidate to free up some cap. Really it makes sense if you are a QB needy team and are planning on taking a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round
  9. I just don't think Chambliss is a big factor in the draft one way or the other. There's a reason why he sued to get another year of NCAA eligibility. He can make more playing college ball than he can in the NFL. Just one of those fuys who is a really good college QB but doesn't project as a likely NFL starter and system fits might limit his value as a backup. Most teams are looking for a backup QB that's plug and play in their system. Sure, you might dial back the scope of the offense with the backup but you don't want to have to fundamentally change your offensive approach if the backup comes in.

  11. I've often wondered this of other fans: would you prefer 9-8, no playoffs, 8-10 seed in NFC, or 8-9, NFC South title, playoffs, 4-seed in NFC? Does an above-.500 record make a season better than a losing record but playoffs? Basically do you prefer 2007 Browns to 2014 Panthers?
  12. Just pack some weight on him and move him to TE/hybrid.
  13. Yeah well thats after they drafted for need to build up to elite. Its quite a luxury to aspire to.
  14. Maybe...but that should be according to scouting them not the school.
  15. FWIW, this is a good article about the conciliation prizes if we miss out on Lloyd. https://www.si.com/nfl/jaguars/onsi/jacksonville-5-free-agent-linebackers-could-target-replace-devin-lloyd
  16. Not gonna lie... my expectations start at winning season. I would love to win the division again, maybe win a playoff game, but 9 wins is all I ask.
  17. Allar in the 4th would be a steal
  18. allar at 186 would be a freaking steal
  19. This is where I'm at as well. Before the playoff game it was a no brainer that we go defense in the first round; Edge, ILB, or even DT. Probably D in the 2nd round as well. Now our biggest hole, IMO, is LT. No one wants to play an entire season with BC or Yosh over there (neither are currently on the team anyway) and FA does not look promising.
  20. Because franchise for linebackers counts all linebackers for the rate, including edges. Basically any non edge lb is hardly ever going to be franchised.
  21. We have clearly gotten better each year. Stable is never a bad thing when you are continuously improve.
  22. Playing around with mock draft simulator this is probably my favorite one yet All the super tantalizing potentials were off the board at 19. Proctor was there but I really question if he can hold up at OT in the NFL at his size. I think speed rushers might put him in a blender. I was definitely willing to move down to pickup more capital. There's an obvious focus on the trenches in this draft. If you can own the LOS you can win a lot of games. Hell, the Seahawks just won a SB doing just that. Iheanachor oozes potential. He has all the physical tools to end up being the beat OT in this class but he's pretty raw having not been playing football long. Well worth it with the first pick in the 2nd. Christen Miller is listed as a DT here but he'd play DE in our defense. Not a lot of people are talking about it focusing on LB instead but our DEs suck too. Lawson should be a day one starter at MLB. His NFL ceiling might be more good than great but that's fine. He's smart, he's capable, and he was the QB in that Bama defense. That's what we need. If you want to run a 3-4 defense, you need a dog at NT. We don't have one. Orange can be that. He's not gonna pile up stats on his own but that's not the point of a NT. The point of a NT is to make everyone else's job easier. Slaughter is a potential starting center. Maybe not as a rookie but he could potentially be the long-term answer. I'm never going to give up on my dream of the Panthers having a true sideline to sideline ball hawking FS. Safety wasn't high on my list but Bud Clark was too tempting to pass up. At the very least he's a guy who should earn a role on 3rd and long obvious passing down type situations. Kevin Coleman is exactly the type of slot WR type we need working the underneath and middle with T-Mac and Coker on the outside. TJ Hall is just a dog and he's experienced playing outside and at nickel. He can cover and he's not afraid to step up against the run. He should be able to earn a roster spot as he hopefully develops as an NFL player and has the tools and mental makeup to be a core STer in the meantime. Nwaiwu is another development type pick with the advantage of having experience playing both LG and RG in college. At this point in the draft you're looking at guys projected as career backups and the more versatile you are as a backup the more roster value you have. I packaged two late rounders together to move up to secure Allar who has all the physical tools you want in a QB and has largely been forgotten since he missed a lot of games down the stretch this year. If he didn't he'd likely be a mid-round pick. He might still end up being a mid-round pick. If I could get him as a developmental guy in the 6th I'm doing that all day.
  23. Honestly thought Ickey was fairlt average. That's just based on the eye test. I haven't seen any grades or anything to base that on. Usually when the QB was pressured, it seemed like it was coming from the LT or RG.
