Captain Morgan started following injury updates
-
not sure if any of this is news, but a good summary of our situation heading into training camp. It's sure gonna be good getting Derrick back. After missing virtually all of the 2024 season, Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown is aiming for a full return to the field during training camp later this summer, per Joseph Person of The Athletic. Brown tore his meniscus in Week 1 and underwent season-ending surgery that has kept him limited through spring practices, though he did participate in “walk-throughs and light side work” during mandatory minicamp, according to Person. Brown originally stated a desire to be ready for the 2025 regular season, but his timeline appears to have moved up. Brown’s injury was particularly disappointing after a career-best 2023 season. He led all defensive linemen with 103 total tackles and was named to his first Pro Bowl, earning him a four-year, $96MM extension from the Panthers in April 2024. While he has never been a prolific pass rusher, Brown’s size and power has consistently commanded double-teams and created opportunities for his teammates. His impact was evident last season, as Carolina’s run defense ranked dead-last in his absence. The Panthers spent significant resources this offseason on defensive line depth, which should allow them to manage Brown’s usage more carefully coming off a major injury. He played a whopping 940 defensive snaps in 2023 (89% of the team’s total) and was on the field for almost every play before his injury last year. With new teammates Tershawn Wharton, Bobby Brown III, and Cam Jackson ready to share the load, Derrick Brown can take a lower snap share to stay fresh and healthy for the entire season. How can you not afford a guy you drafted? They are slotted contracts? This never happens. This isn't baseball lol. -

Something happened. Anyone drafting him knew they were drafting a boom or bust guy who had to a of potential but hadn't done much of anything on an actual football field. Something happened between the draft and now to make them have buyer's remorse on that pick. -

They've spent all their cap on a QB and two WRs. Re-signing Tee Higgins to a mega deal was a serious mistake IMO. They don't have a defense or an OL. They were in a situation where they had to let him walk IMO. -

Even in Scourton's down season he still managed more sacks than Stewart got in his entire collegiate career. -

Is there a bigger red flag than wanting to trade a guy you just drafted lol -
Also. Would trading him anywhere, change his position on his rookie contract!?

ha! Yeah in the pre-draft process I saw a few people mock him to us.. was not a fan. Reminded me of Travon Walker. That said we essentially drafted that type of player in Nic Scourton. -
Dude wasn’t worth that draft pick to begin with. Lol

No. I honestly didn't think he was worth more than about a 3rd round pick to begin with and I'm not even sure I would've taken him that high. His lack of production is beyond alarming. The guy has bust written all over him. I wonder if the Bengals just finally actually watched some tape on him or something? Like oh damn, we fuged up! LOL -

BREAKING: Panthers interested in Justin Simmons
TheSpecialJuan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Athletic’s Joe Person reports the Panthers have talked to free agent S Justin Simmons about a possible deal. Simmons, 31, spent last season with the Falcons after playing for the Broncos for the first eight years of his career. A two-time Pro Bowler who led the league with six interceptions in 2022, Simmons has played in and started 31 of a possible 34 regular season games over the last to seasons and earned a PFF coverage grade of 60.8 last season. The Panthers ranked dead last in points and yards allowed per game last season and ranked 30th in yards per attempt allowed. Simmons would provide an immediate upgrade to a defense that’s hoping to take a big step forward in 2025. -
