You tempt fate just to feel…something

They have our offense from last year:

Worth watching. Netflix (and Brady) seem to have let them take the gloves off a bit and they take their shots. Some pretty good surprise appearances for football fans as well that I won’t spoil.

Go get Gilmore. Let him bring the young guys along. Profit. -

Yep, 4 seconds and forty yards is forever for most nfl plays. Tenths of seconds of difference in the 40 tell only part of the story (and it seems like always an overblown part this time of year). Someone posted a video earlier in the week that mentioned that there’s only been 1 1,000 yard receiver (Santana moss) out of the last top 20 or so 40 times. -

Not elite speed, but has the footwork to keep up. Captain was a 4.51. The more I watch the more it seems like the comparison might fit. Technically sound, great feet. Punches above his weight at the line and can tackle. Go watch a few videos and you’ll like what you see. Size is the obvious reason for his fall. -

Sounds like some Captain Munnerlyn to his game potentially. I’ll take that value and trust Evero’s assessment this late. -
Who are the day 3 prospects you want to see us target?
Jacabee replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Is he? He’s 6 ‘ 4’’, 245, and you’ll typically be adding some weight coming into the nfl as a TE. The hands and strength through the catch really stand out. I guess the 4.69 forty is slower than expected but it’s not awful. Kelce was 4.61 and Andrews 4.67 and the guy seems to play faster than the time. -

For those that don’t want want the Texas TE (Sanders), what are the reasons? I’ve seen it mentioned Canales doesn’t use TE’s but that seems a questionable assertion at best given what he’s had to work with and the unknowns surrounding coming to a new team with new personnel. Seems Sanders’s hands and size would bring another much needed dimension to the flattest offense in the nfl last season. It’s also a dimension the top teams all seem to have. -
This guy’s age was always going to make a second contract a sticking point. I guess the fifth year option gives you some leverage down the line with that? Is that worth paying to forfeit the strongest card you had to play in this draft which is the benefit of information between the first and the second. You had between now and tomorrow to evaluate the board and let someone else make an offer to overreach for someone they’re in love with. And you don’t have to take it! But at least field the deals. Saw a graphic posted earlier this week that 25 percent of first round receivers sign second contracts (no matter how much you love and root for them, believe it or not). That’s the gamble we paid for.

That first game Cam returned is one of the few highlights of the past several years. At least for that week or so, he legitimately galvanized a beleaguered team. That Cardinals team had one of the best records in the league at the time if I recall correctly. Took these few shots as it was it was pretty wild seeing a guy who had joined the team a few days calling rallies mid game.

It’s technically a battery. They have incentive to lie about the exchange because to the extent the fan might also have been at fault (who knows what was said but threats for example might be material), it could mitigate or even prevent their recovery. As several in here have suggested, legally, the operative question is what are the damages really for a thrown drink? That said, the broader issue is the court of public opinion. If you’re Tepper, you want this thing to go away ASAP. Last thing you want is protracted litigation and more bad press. Further, what message does it send if billionaire sends his team of high powered lawyers to squash local Jax fan? Fair or not, that might very well be judged publicly as being unrepentant or even vindictive. Best outcome here is to settle swiftly and quietly with the fan. Resolution is more valuable than the money for Tepper.

Why Trading Burns is the Only Path to Getting a #1 WR in 2024
Jacabee replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Will there be 1 WR’s available mid to late first in this draft class? Just for thought: (a) our 2024 second and our 2025 first to move up and grab a 1 receiver while keeping burns versus (b) two firsts trading burns and spending one to draft a wr. In (b), you’re almost certainly going to need to spend the second first on a pass rusher anyway. I think I lean (a) if I like the receiver class. Where the burns trade picks land obviously would weigh heavily though. With (b) you also retain the difference in cap between burns’ contract and your first round rookie’s but assume the risk of him not panning out. Set that against the risk in (a) of not being able to timely swing a trade up. -
Makes sense. So much of that is feel for the timing. Gonna have to grow into it with these guys.

Step on up Troy Hill. We’re gonna need you.

Great thread. Thank you for itemizing why preseason is a tool but not necessarily a measure for success going forward. If you want to talk about individual players struggling with specific assignments, let’s do that. Let’s talk about how RG was consistently beat the first game or how Ickey straight missed an assignment against TBX in the second. Things looked a bit better in the second game. Let’s talk about how whether Mingo should have driven more on that third down potential conversion from Bryce. Preaseason is extended practice. It’s putting players in position to be evaluated and evaluating accordingly. What a coach wants to see from evaluation purposes versus what it may take to “win” or even “look good” are drastically different things. If you’re going to put on the rest of the fan base your projection that the entire new regime is doomed from the start, you can at least bear the responsibility of producing the receipts. The only thing worth talking about this early is specific players and plays, not prognoses.

Who impressed and who sucked - preseason game 1
Jacabee replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Impressed by Young’s poise. Night and day compared to Corral under similar circumstances. Corral went from overambitious to overly hesitant to zeroing in on check downs and firsts reads and/or bailing on the pocket early. Classic indica of the game being too fast. The sample sizes obviously are disproportionate but Young took a few shots and didn’t seem impacted in the least. The offense was handed vanilla plays without the option for motion and adjustment. Jets rush was especially aggressive, hard knocks and a prior game under their belt and all. On those 3rd downs where defense was pinning back: 1) First drive: Throw for a first down against the sideline is slightly sailed to chark. Smitty points out Chark probably should have taken a half step rather than one and a half timing wise. If the timing is on point here we’re raving about this play. 2nd or 3rd drive?) Don’t recall which one but again we set up a third a 5 or so because of the blandest of shotgun runs on second down. Pass again down the sideline, this time to Shenault. Smitty remarks that (despite contact that maybe warrants PI), Shenault needs to get flatter (drop towards the sideline) rather than deeper (going upfield) in that down and distance. Had he done so, this again is an easily executed play. This is practice/coaching stuff. Luckily, unlike the prior regime, I have no concerns about this one failing for lack of knowledge and effort. The key is seeing improvement next week on the individual battle level at least which those two throws I highlighted essentially are. -
Deep breaths guys, its the premie-est of preseason. Taking the emotional “DJ First Pass and Same Ol’ Panthers” knee jerk reactions out of the picture, this piece of DJ’s game is nothing new. If they routinely start connecting on big play verticals, then it will start to sting as that’s the ceiling we never quite realized.
-
Didn’t we also forego a practice this week due to weather while the jets practiced indoors? These guys are a week a head already given the hall of fame game. They’re on their best behavior with hard knocks sniffing around. We came out unprepared against a hyped up hungry team. This should be a teaching moment and it’s on the coaching staff to get prepped for next week.
-
Lol he did say it phonetically. But he called it an “M.A.” Not hating on Smitty at all I look forward to his preseason broadcasts of our games these past few years, just found it amusing.
-
Smitty on the broadcast RE Jammie’s lack of hustle: “That’s an M.A…..a mental air(sp?)” lol

Eh, New HC. New OC. New, Rookie QB. New WRs. Some clear timing and communication discord along with the O-line having issues working as a unit. These are things a) are to be expected and b) are fixable with competent coaching. How the O-line gels is at the top of my list of things to watch going forward though.
-
This premise conveniently overlooks the benefits of not quitting mid-season. Do we attract the same level of coaches? Do we attract the same level of free agents? Do we have as good an evaluation on the existing roster? At minimum, the o-line seemed to gel into a unit with dominant potential as the season wore on. Does that happen without a competitive season? There’s a value to morale, and this team went from an unfocused clusterfug to a limited, but sound team by the end of the year. Those sound building blocks gave the front office the confidence to go and get their guy. Whether it pans out is fate but finishing the season strong enabled the staff to make the move they did and bring their guy into the best situation possible.
