If we hit on a QB whether that be Cam/Darnold with a competent scheme or a top 10 pick, spend money on the OL, retain Gilmore and Reddick, everyone stay healthy and most importantly get someone who can coach and scheme through adversity were in the playoffs next year. If we won half the close games we lost the last 2 years we're in the playoffs both years. We simply aren't that far off talent wise and every issue we have resolves around our coaching vs talent.

DJ Moore, Robby, CMC as weapons. Hubbard, TMJ, Tremble with potential. Burns, Chinn, Horn, Shaq with potential contributors in YGM, Taylor, CJ, Brown, Roy and Nixon. Potentially able to retain Gilmore, DJax, Reddick. Not to mention an abundance of future cap space and a top 10 pick to secure your QB if so desired. Factor in a small market with a bar previously set so low that .500 is an accomplishment and a relatively passive media presence compared to other markets and THEN you factor in an owner who will throw 10 mil a year and total control and you have a very desirable opportunity. Somebody will take this job and there people who will be banging down the doors to get it. Theres only 32 of them in the world.

Emergency QB’s for Panthers if affected by Covid
SteveSmithTD89 replied to BurnNChinn's topic in Carolina Panthers
Reggie played QB here in Louisville in HS and at UofL. Not well mind you but he did beat ND in ND in one of his starts. And this is a hypothetical in the event all our QBs aren't available. Not sure why you're complaining about this. Lord knows theres plenty of other reasons to complain about this franchise and rightfully so. Dissecting who our emergency QB is if Cam, PJ, Barkley, Morgan and Darnold all got Covid? Save your energy bro. -
I could get behind it. I dont know that I like him more as a prospect than Justin Fields last year but I think I like him more or about the same as Mac Jones. Biggest issue with these 5 year guys is that they may be as close to their ceiling as they're gonna get. Can you win with them? Absolutely. Is it always better to take the younger guy you can mold? Maybe not. You'd have to trust our evaluation and coaching staff. Not sure I'm fully confident in that aspect of our team as of right now. Pretty wild Pickett and Mac are only a year younger than Darnold and Burrow

Official WFT at Carolina Panthers GameDay Thread!
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
1 possession in the 3rd. JFC D get this poo together. Any points in the 4th for them and its probably out of reach. The first 10 plays were obviously scripted which is why they worked so well. Since then it's been an even more vanilla rendition of our already bland offense. At some point need to take a shot to keep em honest. -

Defense has to show SOMETHING here. Football is a complimentary game. Defense hasn't shown up since the 1st quarter. Let's flip the field and get this back. -

Absolutely embarrassing effort from the defense. All the energy, the goodwill, the excitement from Cam.. just pissed away. -

"Robby Sucks" and "It's all the OL's fault" folks
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly I don't know what you've said about Pj. I assumed if you were thumping your chest with a told you so you'd been clamoring for more other than hes got an absolute cannon attached at his shoulder - because he does, no arguments here. I think you may be a bit caught in the moment being perfectly honest. His placement has been good, but inconsistent. CMC has had to go to his knees 3 times already to catch his passes. He was behind Moore on one catch. His biggest problem is just like Darnold, his progressions on 3rd down if the primary read isn't there have been late. His pick he was late and overthrew, he was late over the middle on his pass that was a dropped pick by Hicks. He is a couple fortuitous bounces away from 3 turnovers in the first half. Those same throws to CMC you praised are literally the exact same routes and throws Darnold was making the first 2 weeks of the season before his injury. I encourage you to rewatch those first 3 games. There are just as many top notch throws, throws under pressure, and throws with great placement as we've seen this game. Suggesting that isn't true Id imagine is simply a matter of recency bias because of how ass he was the last month. -

ToLd YaLl AbOuT pJ Aged well huh? Elf has been a shot in the arm so far - he has looked SOLID in there at center outside of the first snap of the game but I honestly don't know if thats in him or the QB. CMC back has made a huge difference as well. And finally the elephant in the room... No Murray. That's going to make a HUGE difference. I cant wait to see Cam with more time under his belt and starting. The mojo of this team is night and day. -
Official Panthers at Cardinals GameDay thread
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
In FG range? Bit worse than that. Actively taking points off the board. Got lucky on his last 3rd down throw. PJ has been exactly who he has been his entire career. -
Couple things here. 1) No way we trade Sam ala Osweiler. At the time, Osweiler was 1 year into a 4 year 72million contract. They were on the hook for 3 more year with what what a fairly lower cap at the time. We have 1 year left at 17 million for Sam. There is zero chance we sink any further resources into that rapidly sinking ship by giving another team a 2nd or 3rd to take the contact. It's far more likely we either a) cut him June 1 designation and spread the hit over 2 years or b) we roll into 2022 with a very expensive but capable back up. 2) We keep seeing lots of hindsight in regards to keeping Cam in the first place and even in this thread "It only would have cost 20 million to let him play it out." I remember at the time I believe it was Zod (not 100% sure big guy dont quote me lol) or one of the other locally connected guys or gald that said Cam did not want to play out on a 1 year deal. That he wanted a long term contract and commitment from the team before the season started. Based on what we saw his last 2 years with us and the shoulder and foot that was also the absolutely right call. Signing Cam to a 4 year 100 million deal and trotting him out behind the lines we've had the last two years would have gotten him killed. I hope Cam comes back and it's Ace Boogie time the rest of this year. I hope Cam gets a long term extension after the season and his shoulder can hold up to an 18 game season and leads us to a SB again where this time we get the Peyton Manning treatment and Cam could ride off into the sunset with an ending he deserves.

A forgotten boon in the Cam Newton acquisition
SteveSmithTD89 replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Realized in my play calling rant I slightly derailed the topic at hand. Cam isn't 2015 Cam anymore. I think his days of being the bulldozer refusing to be denied that run in ATL with half the Falcons hanging on him are over. I would temper expectations on that front not only for Cams decline but the offensive line is far far worse than jt was during his time here. I dont think it's a stretch to say this is his worst line since the Chandler/Bell days. Even then we still had Kalil, Turner and Norwell. -
A forgotten boon in the Cam Newton acquisition
SteveSmithTD89 replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
So our already predictable play calling is gonna get even more predictable? How exciting. I'm going to tell myself that Brady magically will bring back the roll outs that were so successful in the opening weeks. That he will turn to page 2 of the playbook and will utilize some misdirection we saw last year that utilized our skill players and put them into 1on1 situations. How about moving DJ to the RB spot ala Curtis Samuel last year when CMC needs a spell. Cant tell me its anymore one dimensional than a backup rb that can't catch. Worked quite well in Dallas. Then never saw it again. How about those 1 yard touch passes letting DJ or Robby get a full head of steam? Drags? Slants? ANYTHING OTHER THAN A COMEBACK TO THE STICKS ON THE NEAR SIDE OF THE FIELD FOR THE 8TH TIME??? I'm not holding my breath. -
I dont want to get too invested in the idea but I got chills imagining him coming back on the field again. Even if just for the season. Even if he has nothing left. Just getting to experience it one more time will probably bring a tear to my eye.

And he wouldn't want to do that last year with his team having a chance to clinch the playoffs by beating us? Make our team, players, Tepper all watch as HIS team celebrated going to the playoffs while we walked off the field in defeat? That wouldn't have been twisting the knife? Ron won't call the dogs off because he won't sick them in the first place. Ron has routinely been criticized, and rightfully so, for lacking the killer instinct. For not being like Bellichek and going for the jugular. All too many times we would see double digit leads evaporate. We may lose (I've gone on record this is one of the 4 games I think we even have a chance to win) but its not gonna be a curb stomping by ole Riverboat.

Lol okay bud. You tell me what I said that was wrong and if you want to have a conversation about Football let's discuss. I wanted Fields pre Darnold when it became clear the 9ers were going Mac/Lance at 3. Hell, draft day he was still my 1A/1B with Slater. The arm talent is there, the touch and the rest of his game is missing for me. If you think differently and believe Fields has shown anything more than what our bum playing QB has Id be genuinely interested in hearing about it.
-
Lol what is this thread? On the season: 4 Passing TDs 8 INTs 2 Rushing TDs 8 Fumbles Jesus I want to win too and Sam ain't it but quit with the nonsense. The same ones in here fawning over a career night for Fields consisting of a 58% completion 291 yards 1 TD and 1 INT are the exact same crowd that would nitpick Darnolds games against the Jets, Saints, Texans, Cowboys. Fields has been dog poo this year and to say differently is just flat out wrong. Not one of you would have given him a chance past his TB game 2 weeks ago when he threw 3 picks and had 3 fumbles. You would have screamed for heads to roll, thumped your chest about how you called him being a bust during draft night and how picking him set this Franchise back 4 years while repeating yourselves in 27 reactionary new threads after the game. Good Lord losing really brings out the crazy in some of you.

I see 2 wins max left on this schedule
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have. And I said we only have a shot at beating WFT, Miami, Atlanta, NO with Simeon and the Bucs backups as they rest starters. In the same sentence I said I wouldn't be surprised if we won I literally said I wouldn't be surprised if we lost every game. -
"reveals inflammation" goes short term IR is my guess I have zero interest in seeing PJ on the field. At least with Morgan we can see if theres anything worth developing in the future. PJ never should have made the roster over Grier. Neither belong in the NFL but at least Will showed something in preseason games.

SteveSmithTD89 replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
My guess - Beat WFT, Beat Miami,, Beat Atlanta, Beat Simeon and NO, Tampa rest starters and takes an L to us. Any given Sunday. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we beat AZ and the Bills. It wouldn't surprise me if we don't win another game. Nothing ever goes according to schedule in this league. The Bills just lost to the Jags in a 9-6 game that was more reminiscent of a game from the 90s. The Titans just embarrassed the high flying Rams, in LA, after losing to the Jets. -
Not just his season but that brings his Panthers tenure to an end as well. What a horrendously bad signing that ended up being.
