Baker Mayfield and Scott Fitterer presser today at noon.
shaqattaq replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
depends on whether his mom's best friend is hot? -
Right on. I don't care if he and Sam are secret lovers, his favorite QB is Bridgewater because Teddy got him a bloated contract and Sam made him look average - which he is.

So there's a good chance one of them drops to # 32 for us to draft!

Smitty was / is an @$$hole, but as long as he was backing it up on the field, I'm his biggest fan. If Mayfield brings that type of production to Carolina, I'll be his biggest fan. Until then, he's just talking poo for poo's sake. EDIT: I like the attitude though.

Browns and Panther Fan Reactions to the Baker Mayfield Trade

Joe Person and The 33rd Team break down the Mayfield trade

Probably not, but Mayfield's style of play / strengths are more in line with Corral's. I still have more hope for Corral long term than either of the QB's on our roster. I'm really hoping that Sam is holding a clipboard until someone gets desperate enough to trade for him. -

Interesting quote from this article that ties in with my thinking that Baker makes a better mentor for Corral than Sam: Millen adds that he believes Carolina can find success with Mayfield if they run a system that fits his skill set: “I would try to run as close to the system that Lincoln Riley had at Oklahoma as possible. Lots of RPOs and misdirection.” -

Good article, and hard to argue against. The gist of it being: 1) The baker trade, in a vacuum, was good for Carolina. We improved our QB situation on the cheap. Even though it was only a slight upgrade in their opinion. 2) Unfortunately, outside the vacuum, this is our 4th reclamation QB (counting Cam's $6M last year) in 3 seasons. We have no plan and are basically desperately flailing around. 3) Rhule is just trying to save his job. (see #2) MY view of the situation, while not disagreeing with any of this, is that Baker has the potential to be more than a little better than Darnold. Sam has never produced. I still see Corral as the future of this team, only now he has a better mentor to back up in his rookie season. I hope Darnold is off the team or 3rd stringer. And finally, just because we REALLY fugged up the Darnold deal and painted ourselves into a corner, at least we didn't double down on that screw up. We brought in a better vet for cheap and drafted a developmental QB who a lot of people had going in the 1st or top of the 2nd.

At least I LIKE our FA's this year. Corbett, Bozeman, Foreman, Ioannidis, Hekker, and Woods are all solid signings.

Is Baker Mayfield the second best QB in the NFC South?
shaqattaq replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's kinda like having the second biggest pecker at a Cub Scout meeting. Even though it's true, it s not really a good thing. -
I assume that's his wins per season. To be fair... the question only asked about 2020, and I doubt he accomplishes that former glory. I simply say that if he plays like a starter, he should get paid as a starter. It's up to him whether he does that this season.
-
Agree to disagree. He wan games in 2020, winning a playoff game. This ain't your fantasy league Hoss, winning is the only stat that matters.
-
He balled out in 2020, 3563 passing yards, 26 TD's to 8 int, lith a wildcard win. The browns were a good running team that year as well (kinda like we keep saying we want to be), with Chubb rushing for > 1000yds and Kareem Hunt going for 841. If he can recreate that, I have no problem paying him like a mid-tier starter. EDIT: That's a damned big IF.
-
No idea, If he's not, he's not under contract. If he plays well, we end up drafting in the 20's and fill one of the many other holes on the team.
-
Everyone hates Cleveland, even Cleveland! He's betting on himself, he knows that he starts here, and is thinking about that NEXT big contract.
-
I believe, with this move, the Darnold era is officially over.
-
You obviously think Baker is going to be bad. That's the only way you can come to this conclusion Not at all. If Baker balls out, we try to resign him. If he sucks, we've lost very little because Darnold already sucked. I think that in reality we're going to get something in between. Baker will be average, which will win us a few more games, make Darnold immediately obsolete (if he wasn't already), and means that we don't have to throw Corral to the wolves.
-
you are high 2020 he had Chubb at RB, and OBJ and Jarvis Landry at WR. I can't comment about his O-line, but he certainly had weapons-a-plenty.

I hope he gets #14!

We now have the #1 and #3 picks from 2018. As place holders until Corral takes over mid season.
