  1. FWIW, to make this point a little more clear..... Robby Anderson has 9 40+ yd TD's in 315 touches. Curtis Samuel has 1 40+ yard TD's in 257 touches. DJ Moore has 5 40+ yard TD's in 208 touches. So, your extremely goofy criteria doesn't hold up well to the reality of the situation.
  2. Yeah, I don't think people have looked at OTC and seen what kind of cap nightmare trading him would be.
  3. I don't think you really have any concept of player evaluation nor positional value in the modern NFL.
  4. We should know after 2021. If he suffers through another injury plagued season, I think you have your answer. If he can come back and play a full slate(or at least 14 games), it was just a blip on the radar of what we have to hope is a long career.
  5. Yeah, I would love to be able to move CMC's contract but that probably can't happen for another offseason or two with the dead cap hit it entails. We are essentially talking about what Houston is staring down the barrel of, a massive contract that was just signed and taking the maximum amount of dead cap hit possible for that contract.
  6. I am not sure what answer you expected to this question but it is 5 times in 1014 touches(this includes the playoffs). 2017: 0 TD's of 40+ yds. 2018: 1 TD's of 40+ yds. 2019: 4 TD's of 40+ yds. 2020: 0 TD's of 40+ yds. DJ Moore, Robby Anderson and Curtis Samuel also all have the ability to score anytime they touch the ball.
  7. This is maybe one of the worst analogies I have read on the Huddle.
  8. RB has the shortest average career span in the NFL. It's not a matter of "don't draft this guy because of high mileage." It's a matter of don't sign huge contract extensions for a position with a very short career span. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't attempt to draft good RB's but you probably shouldn't pay top tier money(the track record of those players in the past 10 years has been pretty terrible) and you shouldn't plan on 7-10 years of top level production. That just doesn't really happen very often. I was very against signing CMC to the deal we did at the time because of a multitude of factors. Also including the move away from feature backs in the NFL(lessening the overall value of the position), the ease of finding productive backs in free agency or the draft and the dramatic shift over the past 15+ years to the league being much more passing based/QB centric. It has nothing to do with him not being an elite player, which he absolutely is. It's just the value of having an elite player at RB is far lower than at QB, WR, DE, OT, etc. As for the more comprehensive data on "college and NFL mileage." I think that is something we would have to compile. It's possible to do and include things like average career length, injury history, etc. It would take some significant time if the pool or sample size is larger than maybe 5 years.
  9. True, he isn't taking quite the beating of a guy like Henry or Elliott. Still, he takes a lot of beating. That's why RB's have such a short shelf life, the repeated beatings take their toll.
  10. Zero certainty but I don't think you see our current front office giving away #1 RB money in the league. And I don't think you see any NFL team in the current climate giving CMC the contract we did. Remember, we set the market for guys like Cook and Kamara to get the deals they did(which were still smaller).
  11. He also had 731 touches in three years in college. That is only behind Hunt(855 in 4 years), Chubb(789 in 4 years), and Cook(766 in three years). Remember, that mileage matters too. That is why I say EXTREMELY high mileage. Notice that the other high usage three year back on my list is also an injury plagued guy. Guys like Zeke and Henry will absolutely start breaking down(Elliott already is). It's just tough to keep taking that kind of pounding in the NFL. Not everyone can be Frank Gore or Adrian Peterson. Those guys are outliers for a reason.
  12. You also don't need a RB of his caliber to be successful in the NFL. Bonnafon isn't a legit option because he hasn't been able to seriously take a large role even when CMC was down all season. He is a 3rd string RB and really no more than that. Yeah, if we traded him prior to June 1st he would leave us with a HUGE dead cap charge.
  13. I think that the thing you are missing is that those restructures are almost always in a player's favor. After all, the contract is signed and both parties agreed to it. So the party that wants to change the terms afterward isn't likely to gain traction. Teddy is CERTAINLY not going to accept a lower salary but he might accept converting more of it to bonus money which would lower his cap hit in the short term but also mean we would be plagued with his dead cap money for longer once he is released. That's really the only enticing thing we could offer him and even that I question if he would be interested in. It's an absolutely dreadful contract for us. It would be a acceptable contract were he a mid-level NFL starter but he is a backup caliber QB. It's as bad as the Nick Foles, Mike Glennon or Brock Osweiler contracts.
  14. Oh I didn't mean to trade him FOR a draft pick, I meant to give up a draft pick for someone to take him. I don't think there would be any serious interest for even a late round draft pick. His contract is fuging terrible.
  15. He might have been able to, we really don't know. The "holding him out" was never confirmed to be true or not. And he did have ankle, quad and shoulder injuries. It is also possible that he just couldn't ever get healthy last season. We will see what happens. I will say that is a HUGE concern for us moving into next year. If he misses multiple games with injury next season, as well, I think you have to consider perhaps moving on from him in the next offseason. I love him as a player but you have too look at that contract and cringe if he can't stay on the field and be the most productive RB in the NFL. Imagine a world where we didn't sign that idiotic extension. After coming off of an injury plagued year and in a post COVID cap scenario, he probably gets a substantially smaller contract to stay here. At that point maybe we are talking about him being here until he retires versus needed to get out of that contract ASAP.
  16. I'd probably try to shop him in a trade(perhaps giving up a pick to get rid of him) or cut him after June 1st.
  17. I don't think Teddy would be willing to restructure. Unsure about Shaq. Teddy will most likely be gone this offseason and I suspect Shaq will be gone after 2021.
  18. The question isn't about him returning to form, the question is whether he will continue to be plagued by injuries. He is an EXTREMELY high mileage RB and typically those guys don't have long careers in the NFL. He need to hope he is an outlier.
  19. Exactly. I don't think Russell actually wants to leave, he is just tired of getting the poo kicked out of him. Also, I think his comments on the situation were more than just fixing the OL. I think he was also kind of talking about the scheme, as well.
  20. Yeah but we also don't know that the Dolphins WILL offer more than us or someone else.
  21. Yeah but that is also unlikely to be from his mouth. More likely someone he knows, his agent, etc, etc. I don't doubt that there is definitely some truth to at least some of the rumors but there is also likely a bunch of BS floating around, as well.
  22. I agree that Miami makes the most sense, although I would caution that you might want to check the map on the "close to home." The distance between Gainesville, GA and Houston/Miami is about +2 hrs in the favor of Miami. That doesn't fit with that specific point. I imagine it will ultimately come down to basically two factors, where Watson is willing to go and what is offered. If Watson absolutely does or doesn't want to go to "X" teams, they will or won't be in it. So whatever teams he is willing to accept being traded to, then it comes down to the bidding war. Maybe we make a bigger offer than the other suitors, maybe not? We probably won't know until well after the trade is completed who bid what.
