  1. I’ll take NFL history over you running aggressively with standard front office talk….by a brand new bunch in the honeymoon phase. and you don’t need to be talent evaluator when it comes to certain things. Take an Aaron Rodgers scenario. A Brady scenario. Making a move there isn’t on par with does the org think Tommy Tremble can be a good TE in the NFL
  2. yes, Tepper didn't trump his brand new GM that he literally just hired on his major first decision. you are claiming that means Tepper will never be involved with football decisions going forward? I don't buy that. It's the NFL. And we don't know these dudes at all. If Tepper really thinks something is right or wrong...I fully expect him to get what he wants. Having a preference about a pick isn't exactly the same thing as believing a GM is about to fug up something. And that has nothing to do with me wanting Fields. What are you even talking about lol.
  3. It's the NFL. It's front offices saying what they say. And it's the honeymoon phase on top of that.
  4. I wouldn't put my money on a statement like that. He didn't trump his brand new GM on a pick. That doesn't exactly mean Tepper isn't going to be involved or ever overrule the folks here. *not talking Watson here. Just Tepper going forward.
  5. I mean, Joe Burrow did go to the Cincinnati Bengals.
  6. it is what it is. that’s for sure. But as noted, the needs for the team extended beyond QB. DB is still a pretty low impact position given what we are and have been at some pretty impactful positions. Just look at the Gameocks. Horn was one of the best DBs in college football. Let’s just call him the best. Big picture? He had very little impact on outcomes of games. They had needs at more impactful positions. So when Clemson for example rolls up? Who has trash DBs. But is strong at QB, DL, OL….Ross has a 100+ yard day. Higgins has 100+ too. Trevor has a field day and the trio sits down and watches their backups in the 4th quarter. I haven’t agreed with the braintrusts for the Panthers for a long time now.
  7. We have had 3 consecutive losing seasons because we have haven’t had a healthy or good QB. In a QB centric league. The far and away most important position in the NFL. Pretty big need there. QB is a need. Left side of the OL is a need. And we were bottom of the league in sacks. That’s still a need. The most impactful positions in today’s NFL. and we picked up a guy going to into his 4th season never having a winning season….and used a top 10 pick on a DB. Majority here would have been against such if that was posed to you after last season ended.
  8. The article is right in it’s core message. They just went about it horrible. RB, ILB, DB, right side OL….isn’t where the value is and where the guys have the biggest impact. A bad team can hit on one….and it won’t change much. Other positions just have the ability to impact a team bigger.
  9. Well, this was viewed as a pretty strong QB class. All years aren’t created equal. like a 2012, the year we drafted Luke. If we had rolled with Clausen one more season…..the only first round QB taken was Weeden. Only second round QB was Brock. It was super weak at the top. Imagine feeling forced to address QB in a year like that.
  10. Well, the draft is the lottery. Might as well go big where you need it the most. We did that with Cam. That has always been my preference. Cam was more controversial than some remember
  11. I just play the odds. How many have turned into one...after disappointing for 3 years as a starter with the team that drafted him to be one. seems like the smartest money is on considering him a bandaid to get by until we can find someone else. If he surprises, he surprises. That was Teddy. That is Darnold. That’s been a million guys at many positions. Sometimes they surprise. Mostly they don’t. and we have an entertaining year and win some games.
  12. Well, there was no with Teddy option after a certain point...and there were odds none of the top tier prospects would be there. That’s why I wanted Sam in that moment. He was the right move then. They got that right IMO considering where we found ourselves. Best move
  13. Well, they created a scenario where Teddy couldn’t remain here and there were decent odds a QB might not fall to 8....and they only have PJ and Will. What type scenario is that? You don’t want an elite and franchise QB? I mean that can my problem. Seems like that should be common ground for all of us. I don’t know a lot of teams that have pulled off being consistent winners without one. We had one and still struggled with the consistent part.
  14. The next Cam was simply referring to finding another franchise and elite QB. It wasn’t about finding someone that plays the game like Cam. But I see why that could be unclear. Until we do, I just don’t think much matters in the NFL.
  15. Because in one year you have the Cam fiasco, you have the Teddy mistake, you force yourself into having to trade and get Sam, Teddy is such a cluster your have to pay him to be the Denver QB....and after all that a QB falls into your lap? Fields seems like another log that draws more attention to a mess the org has made in a short window. Plus, the fans/media would have demanded Fields IMO. You kind of make Sam an instant mistake by an org that really doesn’t need to take one in the moment. Given the lotto hit success of QBs? I’d probably roll with Sam and pass on Fields too with all that if in Rhule’s shoes. ... I think Sam was the better short term answer for Rhule and company. 2021 season in general. As a long time Panther fan...I’m more interested in finding the next Cam though.
  16. Well, I’ll take that as the Panthers under Rhule have looked poorly in terms of how they have managed the QB situations while he has been here. fair or unfair, it being the right or wrong perception....Rhule and company know it.
  17. Ok, but how do you think Carolina has been viewed in terms of handling the QB scenarios while Rhule has been here? The general consensus. I mean that still exists...
  18. You think the Carolina FO has looked good since Rhule has been here in regards to how they have dealt with the QB scenarios? I think drafting Fields adds to the blemish right now and they opted not too....and I don’t think it takes a lot of talking. Again, they can just go win more with Sam than they did last year and kick the QB can. Our fan base will be happy with 9 wins. And that is obtainable with Sam not changing one bit.
  19. You aren’t new to the NFL. Front offices do a lot of dumb things. and I wouldn’t call it Panther PR. I would call it personal ego and looking out for themselves. Self awareness of how they are looking in a short window in respect to the QB spot. Darnold also is a relativity safe move at this point. We most likely will win more games this year than this past year. So it works for the short term. Rhule wins more in year 2.
  20. I don’t think his take is dumb....it’s just not your take. I think the management overall of the QB situation in a small window likely factored in too -they looked bad in how the Cam era ended here -they brought in and overpaid Teddy and that blew up in their face -they looked bad throwing Teddy under the bus as they failed in pursuing Stafford/Watson (we are fortunate in hindsight there) - they worked themselves into a position Teddy had to go and a scenario existed where a QB might not even be available in the draft at #8. So they had to acquire someone before the draft to prevent a going backwards scenario (which would have been not having a QB fall to 8 and ending up with just Grier and Walker) - Teddy fiasco went so bad they are having to pay him to be the starting QB in Denver Then a QB fell. Adding Fields then IMO, to some, also plays into the narrative and spotlights even more so the fact that they have handled that spot extremely poorly in a short window of time here. We have seen some bad front offices here. All over the league too. They might be one too. I think you are too quick to paint everything they do as 4 D chess and right. QB looks pretty messy to me. To others. It isn’t outlandish for them to be self aware of how that looks in a small window and it to impact them.
  21. Darnold is an actual NFL QB who has started in this league for 3 years. And the comparison was to the talk we saw with Teddy when we brought him in and the talk we are now seeing as we bring Sam in. I mean we know a good bit about Darnold. Just like we did with Teddy. my issue is equating Darnold to a 2021 top 10 draft pick. He isn’t that. no one knows what will happen. But we need a QB....and we aren’t picking the best lotto tickets IMO.
  22. they haven't had a losing season the last 3 years. And they pulled that off with really bad QB play. Worse places for a young QB to land. Allen Robinson is a legit stud WR IMO and they got a good TE group. With a good defense providing aid and helping situational football. I mean it isn't a bad spot for a rookie QB form a talent aspect. He doesn't need to do that much early on. And they could always improve the talent around him and add a weapons as he develops.
  23. I'm not talking about mocks. Mocks aren't BPA (top prospect rankings). Mocks factor in a lot more stuff. Needs and what they know teams are looking to do. BPA in a draft could be a RB and he be mocked at 7. Cam got mocked to #1 once it was widely believed we would do it. But Cam was a pretty risky pick at the time. For many reasons. One that many people were okay with given our need. I thought it was a no brainer and lobbied for him before the nation was cool with Cam at #1 talk. Tony Pauline: Top 50 draft prospects heading into combine - Sports Illustrated Updated 2011 NFL Draft Big Board - SBNation.com 2011 NFL Draft Prospect Rankings (footballsfuture.com) 2011 NFL Draft: Mike Mayock Unveils Top 32 Prospects - Buffalo Rumblings 2011 NFL Draft: Critiquing Mel Kiper's Top 25 Big Board | Bleacher Report | Latest News, Videos and Highlights * Mel Kiper did have him at #10. in terms of prospects, Cam was almost unanimously viewed outside the top 10. Same with the other QBs that also went in the top 10. I mean you are what you based on who picks you. Cam was the #1 overall pick. He wasn't viewed as a top 10 prospect in that draft. Neither were the Gabbert and Locker. There just happened to be teams in the top 10 with massive holes at QB.
  24. Cam wasn't actually deemed the top prospect in the 2011 draft either though. Don't think he was even slated as one of the top 10 prospects by most. We simply picked him #1. We opted for the calculated gamble because we needed a QB.
  25. They temporarily fill the hole. You then generally give them 2-4 years to grow and work on being the actual solution. After that period you generally know if you still have a hole or not. Exceptions to everything. So you will see a rare Rosen that doesn’t get the time. You also have bodies in the NFL. Bodies can sometimes have potential to be more and exceed expectations. But I don’t think you can overly play into the potential and expectations. Saw that with Teddy. Seeing that with Darnold. Bringing in Darnold was the right call….but the narrative that he is on par with bringing in Zach Wilson or Justin Fields for an org just isn’t how I look at things.
