If You Could Choose ANY Head Coach... Who?
Jay Roosevelt replied to Jay Roosevelt's topic in Carolina Panthers
Personally I'm going with Sean McVay. Great offensive mind who brings energy to the team and has shown the ability to win with various levels of talent. He really impressed me with his coaching job this season. That Rams team had no business being as good as they were. I legitimately thought they'd be in the mix for a top-5 pick. -
Title speaks for itself. If the Panthers could have any head coach in the NFL (available or otherwise) who would be your choice? Keep in mind everything else stays the same. Same roster, salary cap situation, ownership, draft picks, etc. Who you taking?

Carolina Definitely Chose the Wrong QB

This is true. But he's shown that with the right scheme and talent around him he can thrive. Can Bryce? I certainly hope so but we'll never know if we don't get this head coaching hire right. -
Not my first choice, but we could do much worse, IMO.

Carolina Definitely Chose the Wrong QB

I was as big a Bryce Young supporter pre-draft as there was on this board. But yeah, it's clear at this point we should have taken C.J. Stroud. That said, I'm not as doom and gloom on Bryce as some here either. I do think he can eventually be a franchise QB for us, but at this point I don't see how he'll ever be as good as Stroud. All we can do now is find the best coaching staff possible and try to surround him with as much talent as possible and hope it comes together. And if it doesn't work out then it's back to the draft board. Such is life in the NFL. -
If we're going to hire a defensive HC I'd prefer to just promote Evero. He's honestly the most promising of the defensive options, IMO.

Nick Sirianni is a Frank Reich guy. Reading all the stories today about dysfunction between Jalen Hurts, Sirianni and the O.C. Brian Johnson regarding the direction the Eagles offense seems eerily similar to what our offense experienced this season. Makes you wonder if the apple perhaps doesn't fall far from the tree. -

Everyone talks about the S2 score. I barely remember that being brought up before the draft. I must have not been paying attention. -
Yeah, I see where you're coming from. But I certainly hope our choices don't come down to Ken Dorsey and Dan Quinn

True, but if you look at the teams that have hired head coaches since 2017 (the year both McVay and Kyle Shanahan were hired) there definitely appears to be a trend of younger, offensive-minded coaches out-performing older, more experienced and/or defensive-minded coaches.
-
I get that logic, but we've seen a lot of younger offensive coaches get HC jobs that "weren't ready" in the eyes of many who have become great head coaches. Sean McVay, Mike McDaniel, Zac Taylor, Matt LeFleur and Kevin O'Connell just to name a few. If anything it's been the older/more experienced coaching hires that have struggled in recent years.

Slowick. Slowick. Slowick. Slowick.

I still prefer Slowick to Johnson, but I'd be happy with either of them.

This. Even if Bryce isn't the guy having Slowick will help the QB we take in 2025. -

Slowick needs to be the guy. Open the checkbook, Tepper. -

Bryce was bad, but so was everything around him including the coaching staff. He probably deserves an F, but I'll go with D just because he was able to at least survive taking so many sacks when durability was such a big concern with him. -
I don't know about 20 years. Tepper can learn how to do this right, he just needs to check his ego at the door and admit that he has a lot to learn before diving head-first into the football end of the pool.

I'm very surprised Vrabel didn't get the New England job. To be honest I'm almost always against hiring retreads (more so now after the Reich disaster) but Vrabel might fall under the "team was stupid to fire him to begin with" category. I'm certainly not against the idea of him as HC here. I do still worry about the offense, though, but at this point I think we need to focus on finding the best HC we can regardless of background.

At his age, no. We'd be right back looking for his replacement after 2-3 years. I'd prefer someone younger who can be here for 10-15+ years if he ends up doing well.

That honestly is not a bad idea. If it was being reported that half the candidates out there were refusing to even interview for the job it could hurt our chances of getting quality candidates to actually interview. I get what he's saying, but in this case optics could actually matter.
