Yeah but you even clarified by talking about not drafting him. Look if we have “our guy” who cares how other draft picks play? If Darnold is a great QB, then we got a young QB and a potential shutdown CB for our first, next year’s second and some change. That’s a win right? People looking over their shoulders at players we didn’t draft hoping/assuming they will bust isn’t a vote of confidence for our staff or Darnold. I get it though, I’m as concerned as the next person about passing on Fields, but like I keep saying hopefully Darnold does great and it doesn’t matter.

Trying to discredit another young QB to make ourselves feel better about our starter probably isn't a good thing...

Oh no I get it. You can basically do the same with Alabama outside of Tua (who is still a question mark). It’s better to have a young QB that might not be terrible versus one we know is terrible. If we our bad this year I hope Mitch doesn’t prevent us from drafting Howell.

This doesn’t work. Different coaches/schemes and players. Name a UT player that was great before Manning, LSU before Burrow, Texas Tech before Mahomes, and Clemson before Watson. It’s so hard to hit one a QB, few schools are going to have one or more that were great. Take away Carson Palmer and Darnold’s USC school isn’t looking too great either... Leinart, Sanchez, Barkley, Cassel, Booty (best name), Rodney Peete! Bengals are probably happy they didn’t let Russell, Mettenberger, Flynn etc discourage them from drafting Burrow. It has to be case by case...

He isn’t more qualified than SCP!

If an owner is confident in his/her GM and staff then they don’t need to be heavily involved in football decisions. If they want to be heavily involved then they might as well hire the cheapest GM they can find.

I just think Fields is going to be good that’s all. Hopefully Darnold will too and it won’t matter!

I think it was a mistake passing on him, but what do I know? Anyway, hopefully Darnold will work out and it won’t matter.

It absolutely depends on if the player who is bringing the off field issues can win over the locker room and the team can get by the PR nightmare. Things are a lot different now and rightfully so. What if an established vet like CMC has an issue with Watson’s allegations? Also social media is going to probably crucify whatever team acquires Watson. Some players/owners/staff don’t want that distraction even if it is for a player of his caliber. Ray rice never bounced back from his off field issue, Greg Hardy couldn’t make his comeback. The game is just as much mental as physical. Watson has always operated with a clean image, it will be interesting to see how and if he plays with these skeletons out of his closet.

He is just saying if a 6th round pick doesn’t get playing time or even gets cut, it not that surprising. It really depends on your definition of “bust”.

That might be the future. Elf and Erving will see a large amount of playing time and will hopefully help mentor these young players. Scott/Erving, Elf, Paradis, Miller (rookie could beat him out early), and Moton probably start us off. I’m just excited to have potential and youth on our offensive line. My main concern is LT, but Erving can play it (not very well), Scott was ok there, and Christensen has potential there. On a side note, Little better play his ass off in practice or he is gone.

If Moore and Brown are starting on this mammoth line opposing defenses’ pants are going to start turning more brown!

Draft Analysis: "A massive value-destroying error"?
ForJimmy replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
We felt Darnold fulfilled our QB need as well or close to as well as Fields or Mac (I personally wanted Fields). Rhule has stated that one of our biggest issues was getting off the field on 3rd downs. Reddick will help add pressure with Burns, but we were in need of a CB. Rhule believed Darnold/Horn fulfill 2 major needs while Darnold/Fields would (maybe give a better chance) only fulfill one. If they make Darnold work they are geniuses, if they don’t and Fields lights it up we are going to start looking like the Bears have been on QBs... -
Sam's Grandfather was the Marlboro Man (No Joke!)

He needs a mustache and cowboy hat AND name change and he will have quite the fan base here. -
The Appaloosa Model backs this theory.

To me Teddy was still playing like a backup. Quick passes and check down passes to try to not lose the game. Solidified starters have to take risks and trust their teammates to do their jobs. His arm being somewhat limited is part of it, but part of it is the mental aspect of trying to play it safe. Later in the season we had nothing to lose (were out of the playoff race) and he still kept it dialed in during the 4th quarter when we were down. Unless he can change his mindset he will always be a great backup and below average starter.

What’s a left tackle? Do teams still use those?

Scott Fitterer: We want Sam Darnold to just flush what's happened

Yet here you are... -
2-2 sounds reasonable with wins over the Texans and Jets. If we can beat Dallas or NO early then we should be in for a good season.
-
They also didn’t practice throwing to an open DJ Moore enough..... Practice was mainly check downs and goal line fumbles on QB sneaks.

Exactly. This is a sports message board, there will be PLENTY of knee jerk reactions. I wouldn’t give it a second thought.
