Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?
ForJimmy replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
You are still making a leap on what his was implying based on your personal beliefs. Reich mentions how many teams are starting to use backup QBs in that scenario and how he did it with Brissett at Indy to keep defenses confused. Dalton being able to do “more than one thing” was mentioned as more of a backup and situational player. He goes on to mention how since Dalton is a vet, he can come in for one play and execute it well without playing all game. I took it as he has multiple uses for Dalton vs the standard backup player. Also I believe Dalton installed his on plays and Reich let him because he is a vet. Honestly it all just shows how much Reich loves vets, wanted Carr, and was the wrong guy to develop a rookie QB. “I wouldn’t say that that was the case,” he replied when asked if Young hadn’t taken the same openings Dalton did on Sunday. “I probably called a few more. And there were one or two things that Andy specifically asked for, which I don’t wanna go into detail on. But there were a couple things that he specifically asked for.” -
Regardless being a rookie it’s usually better to play them early. I wish it wasn’t at Chicago though.

Got Caleb early. Good.

Haha suck it Daniel Jones!

He just gave his opinion. Cam kind of calls it like he sees it. Got backlash calling Purdy the game manager he is and now Cam isn’t afraid to say he was wrong about Bryce being QB1. Anyone will tell you Stroud should have been the pick using hindsight. Why is going against an Alabama QB a big deal vs an OSU QB? I’m confused by this as I believe Young was the first Bama QB to go 1 overall. Mac didn’t, Tua didn’t, Hurts didn’t even make round 1? I think maybe just maybe Young was a top QB to a lot of people/analysts. I know you and I plus a lot of people on here wanted Stroud but I believe Young was ranked QB1 more times than not. Regardless Stroud still went 2 and to a better team/coach. It worked out in his favor as he is now a new face of the NFL vs Young still being a question mark or even written off by some. -

He did speak a year ago. https://www.si.com/nfl/2023/04/27/cam-newton-touts-bryce-young-panthers-no-1-nfl-draft-pick#:~:text=Add Cam Newton to the,in the 2023 NFL draft. He is talking about hindsight now. He said Young will take time and CJ came out on fire. Before the draft he was all about Young though. Smith also wanted Young. -

Yeah I remember that. I think that’s all the other poster was mentioning. Probably a little Panthers PR. I guess the fan could have cheered for injuries earlier and the INT cheer pushed him over the edge but who knows…. -

Reich had the same offense for Dalton as Bryce and you are correct Dalton himself wrote in some plays to incorporate. Since he was a veteran he let him do it. The thing that people are off on is the sudden deep passing game. There were 2 out of 60 passes completed for over 20 yards. One was like 27 to wide open Chark with 20 YAC and the other was like 23 to AT. Hence why the average was still 6.6 per attempt.... -

Yep and the Lions traded Hockenson to the Vikings a few years ago. Division rivals can make trades if they truly believe they both benefit. It’s also risky because they would love to screw each other over like the Bills just did. -

The real question is who is YOUR starting 5 and why does Nash Jensen look like he should be working at AutoZone? -

Per Cam Newton, Kirk Cousins has six 6️⃣ games to prove himself

Yeah the Vikings beat us last year but Cousins was held in check. 12/19 139 yards 2 TDs and 2 INTS. Their defense scored on a fumble recovery and they won 21-13. Our offense was just garbage as usual. Evero did his part. We even scored on a pick. -

The number one pick winning the job vs a vet backup is pretty much the norm. Also Bryce visited with other teams, the Texans and Raiders brought him in, but yeah a week before the draft he cancelled any remaining visits as he knew where he was going. Regardless we have a new staff now. According to this argument it wouldn't matter if we brought it competition or not as the job was/is given to Bryce. So why are you upset we brought it no competition if it's irrelevant? Either the new staff will see Dalton as competition or they are rolling with Young no matter what. -

So is Dalton not competition for Young? You stated not too long ago we would have competed for the division with him at QB vs Young based on that Seattle game? -

Relax we got Jack Plummer! Plus some fans on here think Dalton is great so we should be set. On a serious note I think they are giving Young this year to get evaluated. Gotta make sure he is or isn’t our future QB. Plus I don’t think claiming Rourke really moves the needle for us. -

If it’s out of my control why would I make a big deal? It’s a football team that’s made for entertainment. If it ever becomes a big deal when they are bad I can simply find other things to occupy my free time. Life is too short. -

Gotta love the excitement police. It’s freaking sports. If fans want to be excited, let them! If it leads to disappointment then we are just back to where we were. No big deal. -
Knecht would fit nice with Ball, Miller, Bridges, and Williams honestly.

BREAKING: Panthers signing Rashad Penny

There is a big range depending on the injury. This one was just a clean ACL and he is recovering ahead of schedule. Everyone is different you posted a study showing averages. Check out Adrian Peterson tearing his ACL and MCL and playing great 8 months player. I agree he will be eased in but I think he is our feature RB by midseason. Obviously how he plays depends on how well our passing game looks. Having 8 in the box like last year will make life tough on any RB. Last December, Adrian Peterson suffered a serious injury, tearing both the ACL and MCL in his left knee. However, after ACL reconstruction surgery and months of physical therapy and rehab, the Vikings star made a stunning recovery in order to start the season with his team. As of November 15, Peterson led the league in rushing and had scored at least once in each of the last four games. While an ACL injury often destroys sports careers, commentators are saying that Peterson may be performing better than ever https://www.millsteinorthopedics.com/blog/adrian-petersons-staggering-acl-recovery#:~:text=Football great Adrian Peterson recently,MCL in his left knee. -

When he is cleared to play means something lol. You are so whiney… Brooks said the ACL tear he suffered in November didn't come with any damage to other ligaments -- a factor that likely contributed to the Panthers' confidence making him the first back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft (46th overall). He's begun running and plans to resume cutting soon, with the intention of participating at the start of training camp in late July, shortly after his 21st birthday https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/panthers-jonathon-brooks-on-track-for-camp/amp/ He should get some touches early on and eased into the starting role. -

I’m pretty sure the Kraft reaction was staged? There are no limits on these things.
