Reich/Fitterer noon press conference
Stuart Smith replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
They may have decided, who knows? It is also smart to wait in case the chosen pick does a “Jalen Carter.” That allows you to pivot in a worse case scenario. -
Reich/Fitterer noon press conference

The press conference by each is now on you tube. -
I hope at the end of the year we are “Theilin” it. I want Chicago’s draft picks we traded for our #1 pick to be as high as possible.

Besides QB, what do y'all think are out biggest draft needs?
Stuart Smith replied to Panthero's topic in 2015 NFL Draft
Several positions, really concerned about cornerback. Not convinced “action Jackson” will be ready to start the season or if he will ever be the same after his injury. -
Sign These WRs and Call it a day!

I have confidence the folks in charge now are formulating a plan. -

Keenan Allen has a monster contract, can’t afford. He played HS ball at Northern Guilford in 2015 when they won the state 4A championship.

The offensive line really came together last year after Bozeman was inserted in the starting lineup. We were very fortunate not to sustain any major injuries from that point on. I have concerns about quality depth. Injuries on the offensive line and lack of OL quality depth are not what a rookie quarterback who is a franchise player needs to deal with. I feel good about Cade Mays from what I have seen, but after him I am not sure who we have that is a quality replacement.
-
It might help a rookie quarterback. We need to provide this quarterback the best opportunity to succeed. Yes, I believe Hurst will be a big improvement over our existing tight ends. I believe most of the recent signings will prove out. We do need a running back that can catch the ball. I am going to give this group of decision makers the benefit of the doubt. Time will tell.

Marc Ryan - "Carolina Zeroed in on Stroud and Richardson"
Stuart Smith replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers
In my humble opinion I think Stroud is the choice and the receivers are being signed with that in mind. With the questionable life choices that some young people make a lot can happen before draft day. By not even leaking info about the #1 pick the Panthers could easily pivot on draft day and change the selection. We hope that doesn’t happen, but we have already seen it with Jalen Carter. -

Next thing we hear is that the pick will be Stetson Bennett. -
Can someone write me up a nice little summary of the past week
Stuart Smith replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Keeping Zane Gonzalez, letting Eddy Pineiro explore his options. -
I wish.

Stroud should be the Panthers Pick, the majority of Panther fans and the national media would be surprised if he was not the pick. However, It is smart not to telegraph this yet. With 40 days before the draft anything could happen to a draft pick to diminish his value. It is not likely, but an unknown character concern could surface, an injury, auto accident, etc.

Last year it was the hands.

Panthers showing interest in RB Jamaal Williams
Stuart Smith replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Foreman can do as well as he did last year at a reasonable price tag I would like to keep him. I understand you have to manage the cap, but when we can retain players who have performed well as a Panther I wish we could keep them. I know it is a business and sometimes we don’t know all the facts. -
Why didn’t they just trade for the 4th spot to begin with and not give up Moore. The Panthers are going to use the #1.
-
I hate to give up on Corral before he even gets a chance.
-
We do not need Odell with a rookie quarterback.

Food for thought on The Trade and the Pick.
Stuart Smith replied to Doc Holiday's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree with this. However, I think there are more reasons not to announce the chosen pick yet. Even though the Panthers may be locked in on a player, a lot can happen in 46 days. An accident, injury or character issue could rear its ugly head. These players have been vetted and this appears very unlikely, but this early it is wise to be cautious. -
The key is if you truly like 2 players equally. I find it hard to believe that at the end of 45 days and many conversations the brain trust of the Panthers will not have a consensus on who they want at #1.
-
If you have done the work to get your guy be very careful. Trading to the number 2 pick to gain a pick could backfire if you don’t control it.

For the first time in a while I trust the staff too. The biggest win of all was assembling this coaching staff.
