Sell me on Beck, Ewers, Sanders, Ward, etc.
MartyClemons replied to MGH1989's topic in Carolina Panthers
Why? The college season has just begun. -
We need to figure out soon whether guys like XL can be building blocks. And we’re never going to get there if our QB can’t get them the ball
-
Our defense is somehow even more inept than our offense. This is unacceptable levels of bad

We fuging hate you David Tepper

Doesn't need to be a #1 pick at QB in draft
MartyClemons replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s not like there’s a clear cut #1 skill position prospect at this point either. -
Eh. If we’re comparing Darnold’s stats as a rookie to Young’s… Not really sure how Young comes our favorably. You could say Young comes out favorably to Wilson… but they’re pretty much a wash tbh.

Let's Talk second round WR prospects...
MartyClemons replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
I didnt love the Mingo pick. He fit a big need and the physical tools and upside were there, so I didn’t hate it. But I look at teams like Baltimore, Pitt, or Philly lately and it feels like they’re always stacking talent and taking guys who have slid. To me that’s the approach we should be taking more than committing to one position. Still ave hope that Mingo can put it together tho. My hope this year with a lot of QBs potentially going early in the draft that we can find someone who slides -
I’ve seen this a couple times and I don’t really get it. Tua was 6-3 with a 2:1 TD to INT ratio. Young’s stats have been horrendous. And I don’t even think that fully does it justice.

Meh. I was worried last seasons ending would be a bit of fools gold. But I also think it’s easy to say some of this in hindsight. I think the team thought it had potential cornerstones in Ickey and Burns along with Young. Maybe even hoped Horn could be one. In some ways Dalton starting a couple weeks could be for the best. Gives a barometer of where the rest of the offense is at

I was a big pro Stroud guy. I think Stroud showed better ability to throw guys open. I’m not ready write Young off d/t struggling in two games on a team with little talent around. But I thought he held the ball too long, didn’t see some open receivers. The stats he did put up were mostly against a soft D trying to run out the clock. Not been a lot of positives so far

Mike Kaye explains DJ Johnson pick
MartyClemons replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah this is not very assuring. Looks like we committed to draft a position regardless of talent available. It also reeks of a lack unity in the organization. They’re not just drafting BPA but maybe trying to appease new coaching hires on both sides of ball. -
Mazi was pretty high on my list of players I was hoping to see us get at 39

Not trying to pick on you… you’re not the only one to mention it. But I don’t really understand the frame comment. Stroud weighed 214. Only 10 more lbs than Young despite being almost half a foot taller. Just think it’s weird no one questions his frame. Anyway I’ve thought highly of Stroud. Feel like most of his criticisms have been things like ‘he’s from OSU and OSU qbs stink’ or ‘his receivers are too good. More than being Stroud specific. So the GA game didn’t change much for me in how I viewed him.

Confused Why Some Seem to Think We Got Fleeced
MartyClemons replied to Daddy_Uncle's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Bears don’t have pick 32 d/t trading for Claypool. So I’m sure they consider DJ equivalent to first round value. Also kinda depends on how we end next year. Rookie QB with not much around him on offense. Our defense still needs some pieces. In a weak division we could make a run, or we could also end up back in the top 10 next year. -
This. Idk that I’d hate it. He’s one of the few prospects I’d actually like watching in workouts tho to get a better feel for his pass catching. He’s obviously huge, solid athlete and made some impressive catches. But his low productivity raises some questions and I don’t think you can blame it on the offense

Jalen Carter may be dropping after this
MartyClemons replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah leaving the scene while your friends die in a crash you contributed to is an awful look. And that combined with his lie make it pretty likely he was hiding something. I’d have some serious reservations about drafting someone after that. -
I’m not completely sold in Fields as a good QB. But I’d be okay with Fields and then someone like Kincaid.

Reich’s description of a QB: It’s basically Corral
MartyClemons replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t think it’s salt. I think it’s just being realistic. We all know Corral had talent coming out of college. He fell d/t a combo of injuries and reports of some mental health stuff. I don’t know where he’s at in terms of mentality. So simply pointing to his physical tools isn’t telling us much -
I’m really glad Joe Burrow was able to transfer to LSU at the end of his college career since Ohio St QBs never pan out apparently
-
I’m not really sure what to make of Lance yet… but he played 1 game in pouring rain.
-
I mean I wouldn’t hate it in R3 or 4. But if draft him, he spends most of next off season on sidelines. Then what’s our position heading into 2024? We’re not going to not pursue top QB talent Orr declare it a need because of Hooker who would’ve yet to see the field.

Do the Bears trade Fields and draft QB at 1?
MartyClemons replied to *FreeFua*'s topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we’ve played ourselves out of that spot. If Chicago decides to trade down I’m guessing they’ll still target Anderson/Carter or someone closer to top 5. -

MartyClemons replied to *FreeFua*'s topic in Carolina Panthers
Depending on the haul for Fields I’d consider it. Trade Fields, use extra pick to draft Skoronski to help improve their line
