He could.. overall we are going to have a poor record this year so the pressure will be on Tepper and Fitt to see if Rhule and Baker have done enough, despite the record to stay. The BEST case situation is that Rhule becomes that team building CEO style coach that he was hired to be and Baker proves that he is the 2020 version of himself. Then with a top 5 draft pick we should be able to trade down for a brinks truck of picks. THAT would be the best case situation. Keep the coach, keep the QB, have a top pick.

We have a monster schedule. We might have a good team a competitive team and still really struggle.

I think this this is such an interesting situation. You have a head coach that knows that his job depends on his QB. So he absolutely needs to make sure he fields the best person.. not the most popular one. Baker has the better stats. Darnold has arguably more talent. With your job on the line, it will be interesting to see the choice.

What do you want? A true QB competition or is Bakers job to lose?

I dont watch college football but from a draft grade perspective this is there is lands. Sam Darnold: 7.10 Baker Mayfield: 6.70 Matt Corral: 6.40 Grade descriptions 6.4-6.49: Will become good starter within two years 6.7-6.9: Year 1 starter 7.0-7.1: Pro bowl talent I'm not posting this to argue who is better, just that based on college evaluations, Darnold and Baker were significantly better than Corral in college. They must have seen no improvement from Darnold in the off season training program and that moved the talks. I think they 'hoped' Darnold would step up but they obviously didnt see enough. Clearly Corral was not ready.

I dont get why half this fan base suddenly thinks that the saviour of this franchise is the 94th pick in the draft. There are WAY greater odds that he never starts a single game in the NFL then there is of him somehow being the next Aaron Rodgers that half the people posting here think he is.

I would love for an open competition. Best man wins. BUT this place would LOSE THEIR DAMN MINDS if Darnold won.

I can appreciate the teams efforts to keep trying to get better. Brrdgewater, Darnold and Baker have all been big upside, low downside moves.

Im excited. Im watching the games regardless who the players are. Now we just got better and have a potential long term franchise QB. The win/loss record probably wont improve dramatically but If Baker balls out we dont need to use that high draft pick on a QB next year.

I like the trade. Unless Baker lights it up I dont think he gets a monster deal. Assuming 2020 stats and we dont draft a QB in round 1 I think he gets tagged as a 'prove it year' or signs a short 3 year deal that gets redone if he turns it on. His 'next' contract Im not worried about at all.

I think the negative here is people hate Rhule so the best case for them is we lose every game, fire Rhule and draft a new QB and start the rebuild over again.

Just cause we drafted a mid round QB does not mean he has any chance to start EVER in his life.

Im assuming your thinking about Corral. It's best if he doesnt play right now anyway. His best chance to make it in the NFL is for the team to win, Rhule to stay as the coach and him to grow in the the back up position. Rhule gets fired, Corral probably gets dumped by the new staff.

This is a zero risk move. If he sucks, next year he's gone and we are drafting a QB. Some of oyu are mad that the team is trying to get better... but there has always been a large 'cheer for losses' group here..

Well... Winning 9 games is better than 5 games. Math!
