What I really didn't like about the CMC deal was the timing. Unless he was threatening a holdout behind the scenes we had no pressing need to ink that deal when we did. Imagine how much stronger of a negotiating position we'd have with him coming off of an injury riddled year with a reduced cap number. Honestly, he'd probably be opting to play out his deal under the 5th year option and then we'd still have the option to franchise tag him in '22. Honestly, that's probably the smart play with a 1st round RB. Let him play out his rookie deal, franchise him if he's elite, possibly franchise him again to get 7 seasons out of him then let him walk and let someone else give him a long-term deal with big guaranteed money. He'd still only be 27/28 years old. You definitely don't give a guy huge guaranteed money one year after running him into the ground. History shows that seasons with huge numbers of touches are really unkind to RB longevity. I honestly think he proverbially held the gun to our head behind the scenes. That's the only way that contract and the timing of it makes any sense at all.

That's what people have been saying about the Saints forever and somehow they always figure it out anyway. I'm to the point of just admitting that they're a helluva lot better at cap management than we've been.

If he is then my hope for the Rhule Era is pretty much over. He didn't learn a thing from the failed Teddy experiment. I'll hope that I'm wrong but I'll fully expect another 2-3 years of flailing before the reset button gets pushed on the entire organization. Again.

This is what I'm seeing too. Teddy would look just like Mac Jones in last year's Alabama offense. Honestly, Teddy would probably be better because he can move around a little bit on the rare occasion when things break down.

I mean, so far their QB selection has consisted of Teddy Bridgewater. We can blame that on Hurney all we want but we wouldn't have signed Teddy if Rhule and Brady were pounding the table screaming "NO!"

Take a look. Teddy's arm was better. Jones can't make that first throw. Teddy there it 50 yards in the air hitting a WR in stride and didn't even have a clean pocket to step up in. Jones can't do that. Teddy hasn't shown the ability to do it either at the NFL level, but he did in college.

He wasn't in college. When your underthrown deep balls you're putting everything you've got into start getting picked at the NFL level you get gun shy... or start throwing INTs in bunches.

Yep. Long-term the contract isn't awful because we can get out of it, but in the short-term we're grossly overpaying a "good" player at a relatively non-premium position.

Please do. I've said it over and over again. You can see it in every game he plays if you have some understanding of what you're looking for. But I haven't seen a video that specifically points it out and surprisingly highlight reels tend to not feature a lot of subpar throws.

Loomis has always been a cap magician, but man he's up against it this year. Gonna be interesting to watch.

It definitely makes the chances of retaining him much slimmer. Moton's cap hit is going to be much higher this year under the tag than it would've been under a backloaded long-term deal. But honestly, the chances were practically nil before that. We just can't dump big money into a #3 WR.

If I thought that Trubisky was likely to turn into Tannehill then my plan would be to sign him immediately upon the start of FA and pick the best LT or CB on the board at #8 and try to trade down if that plan didn't work out. 3800 yards with 33 TDs and 7 INTs? Yeah, sign me up for ALL of that.

I figured someone who has been following NFL football for as long as you have would've learned to never talk in absolutes when it comes to the draft.

Unfortunately, I had an Outback as a company vehicle for a few years. It's the perfect comp for Mac Jones. A lot of people told you it's good and you'll love it. It looks fine. Not great, fine. Acceleration is anemic. It has a throttle delay that is straight up dangerous when pulling out into traffic. If you look at it the wrong way it scratches and dents. The seat makes your lower back feel like you've been taking blindside hits from Aaron Donald all week. You very quickly realize you've been had. Those people who told you that you were gonna love it were wrong but that piece of poo is still sitting in your driveway ready to torment you again tomorrow.

Honestly, I agree. I'd rather have Trubisky as a FA and a LT or shutdown CB prospect at #8 than Mac Jones as a 1st rounder. 100%.

Look at the other side of the "Tom Brady" coin. There's a reason why he went in the 6th round. Almost all of the other guys in the "Tom Brady as a draft prospect" category got their cup of coffee in the NFL and they've been working as an accountant ever since. Brady is a very, VERY unique case that's so far outside of the norm that he's almost not even worth talking about in terms of other prospects. If you think you can find another Brady then you might as well start inviting bag boys to camp in search of the next Kurt Warner. If we're talking about Mac Jones as a 6th rounder then hell yeah, sign me up for that. But that's not the conversation we're having.

You can make a case for a QB for most of the teams above us and plenty could potentially be interested in trading up. It wouldn't be at all shocking if all four are gone by #7. I'm not saying it WILL happen, but it's a very real possibility.

Who's to say we weren't looking? We drafted Grier in the 3rd. That's where the Pats were drafting QBs. They were drafting mid to late round guys, not high round picks. When. The Packers spent a 1st round pick on another QB, their current elite starter was in his late 30s and the opportunity presented itself. Cam was significantly younger and the opportunity didn't present itself.
