  1. But you're paying a guy that is a constant underperformer who played not to get hurt. That's the message we meant to be sending? That no matter what you actually do day to day in the field, we're going to take care of you? That's the culture we want to build?
  2. Yes. That money will be spent. Let it be spent on those who know what it is to be competitive at a high level and let them bring an attitude and work ethic and experience that the young guys can learn from. Let it be spent on players who help build the type of culture you want for this team. Those who will fight and who make those around them better. Blowing it on a guy who has all the tools, but who only brings it on occasion and who obviously just doesn't have that dawg in him would keep us stuck in the same rut of blah we've been on. Paying him would send a horrible message to the other players that we don't expect the best from you. We just want you to show up and we'll pay you for what you might be capable of without expecting you to actually perform at a consistent high and competitive level.
  3. Spending more than something is worth just because you have more money is stupid.
  4. Had annual physical today. Not a bit of it fun of course, but got the shingles vaccine. Really not fun. I mean really....not fun.
  5. check back after next year with a coaching staff that isn't spending more time/energy fighting each other than working with the team. until we see them with a not so dysfunctional coaching staff i think most grades are going to be incomplete at this point.
  6. i really don't want to pay $20+ mil for burns (tag for him is $23), but if we can get two firsts for him i guess it's worth the risk. i just don't see that happening. maybe they can get someone to trade for him for a first this year without having to take the risk of the tag. if someone wants him, they'd probably be willing to jump at the option of only giving up 1 first.
  7. that kind of thing hasn't typically worked out for us anyways. if there's a way someone can break or break down, they'll do it. but yeah, as good as someone might be "if he can stay healthy"...we just can't take that risk. we don't have a cushion thick enough to take those blows. we need to hit on as many picks as possible, especially our lone pick in the first 2 days of the draft.
  8. the way i read it wasn't houston backing out. they and the bears couldn't agree on what the texans would give the bears and just couldn't get thing s worked out. meanwhile the clock was ticking and the panthers offered something else and the bears jumped. we both wanted young. we were willing to pay more for it. that's what it comes down to. stroud was a consolation prize that ended up being better than they or anyone else could have expected. meanwhile young did worse than anyone thought possible, of course his situation was worse than anyone thought possible while the texans situation ended up being better than anyone expected.
  9. we're not going to get an extension done because he wants too much money and he probably thinks he can get it somewhere else...and he wouldn't be wrong. but we'd be wrong in giving him that kind of money because he's just not worth it. if he has he hasn't shown it. he's not the kind of player the team is supposedly looking for now. he's soft. talented, but soft. he'll show up every once in a while, but all it will do is piss you off and make you ask why we don't see that more often. the answer is he just doesn't care and i don't want to bother with him. whether we have a pass rush or not next year doesn't depend on burns. he hasn't been the factor he's hyped up to be. he's just a wannabe spiderman.
  10. i think this right here is major fug up #2 with burns. we missed out on 2 incredible opportunities to trade him that could have really helped us this year under the delusion that he was invaluable to this team.
  11. as much as it might pain us to not get anything for burns...i really just want to separate ourselves from as many mistakes as possible. whatever should have or needed to be done with burns, should have and needed to be done at least a year ago. we don't need him hanging over our heads like this. we have too much residual from fitt that needs excised from the organization as it is. he isn't going to make us competitive. all he's going to do is clog up cap space.
  12. I'd kind of given up on Bryce. Not really a believer, but poo like this is gonna have me rooting for him, that and the fact that he's the panthers QB.
  13. I would like to trust Morgan in this. If he's honest about only having Dawgs on this team, Burns will be gone one day or another. If he's just playing lip service, Burns will be back getting paid big time. This is the test.
  14. Pep wanted out and he was being accused of taking a lot of plays off (but even with that he was twice the baller burns is). Letting him go for nothing hurt, but it was inevitable. The team wanted him to be something he didn't want to be and he wanted to experience life and sports away from north Carolina. I seriously just don't want to mess with burns. All he's ever done is pretend to be a superhero/elite player. If we can get something for him, fine. I just don't want the risk that comes along with the tag
  15. Little curious to see where these guys were all drafted.
  16. Tag would be $23mil. Better than 30, but still way more than we should be paying him and I just don't want to risk getting stuck with him for that amount.
  17. I just don't want to mess with it. Tag and trade sounds like a good idea ...but what if you can't get a trade partner then you're stuck. I mean it's not like it would be as hard as letting pep go because he was such a part of our identity. Burns ain't no pep. Just cut bait. Not worth the cost or risk of cost.
