CBS Mock-Ebron@28

If Ebron was there at #28, you almost have to take him.  Little doubt that he'd be the BPA at that point.  He'd also give us a legit red zone target which is an element that we sorely lack in our offense.  I love Olsen, but despite his size, he's not a great red zone target.

If not for the Dickson pickup, I would really like this pick.  I'm not saying that Dickson will provide the same level of play that Ebron could, but you damn well better believe that Dickson will be giving 100% out there because his career is on the line.  Ebron, on the other hand, has a reputation for not trying when it comes to blocking.  And that bothers me.

I'd still be happy with this pick, because Ebron is more talented than a #28 overall should be, but I'm not sure it makes as much sense anymore now that we already acquired another pass-catching TE.

Turn him into a #1 WR.

Your #1 receiver doesn't necessarily have to play WR.  Jimmy Graham is without a doubt the Saints' #1 receiver.  Same with Gronk in NE when he's healthy.  In his prime, Gates was in SD and so was Gonzalez in KC.  There was probably also a time when you could've argued that Shannon Sharpe was the #1 target in Denver.

If Ebron is on the board with a bunch of guys who are likely #2 WRs, give me Ebron.  He has the talent to be an elite NFL TE.  I'll take an elite TE prospect over a decent starting WR prospect all day everyday.

I love what it says as well, "Someone has to fall, you know?"  Exactamundo, and the Gettfather will be sitting dead red on them.  Ebron would be similar to Cordarelle Patterson-who I mentioned yesterday-also mocked in the top 20 and even top 10 for much of the mock season, then falls to 29.  Would jump all over Ebron and would be a fool not to.  "Someone has to fall, you know?"

Dickson signed a 1 year, veteran minimum contract.  No one on a 1 year, veteran minimum contract is going to have one bit of impact on a team's 1st round draft pick.  You draft a guy in the 1st round for the next decade.

    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
    • Maybe faked was too strong of a word.  "Milked" may be the better way to call it.
