Dolphins protect swimmer from shark

Dolphins Protect Long-Distance Swimmer From Shark

A long-distance swimmer seeking to become the first British man to complete the Ocean’s Seven, a group of seven long-distance swims around the world, was protected on his journey by a pod of dolphins who scared off a shark, according to the swimmer’s support team.

Adam Walker was swimming the approximately 16-mile long Cook Strait off the New Zealand coast last Tuesday when he spotted a shark in the water below him. Just as his fears began to rise, Walker said he was surrounded by a pod of around 10 dolphins that swam with him for more than an hour.

“I’d like to think they were protecting me and guiding me home,” Walker wrote on his Facebook page.  “This swim will stay with me forever.”

Cool story, with this ironic twist...

In a fitting coincidence, given the animals he encountered in Cook Strait, Walker is swimming to raise money for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation...

No word on whether they said "So long, and thanks for all the fish" afterward.

I usually end up seeing Jaws right before time to go to the beach, needless to say I spend a lot of time in the pool.

I've toyed with the idea of taking a boombox out to a beach and playing the theme from Jaws turned up loud.

I figure most of the people my age who were in the water would chuckle at first ('ha ha very funny"). Then they'd start thinking about it, begin looking around nervously and then slowly head to shore

My idiot brother took me to see "Jaws" when I was ten years old.

You'll never see me swimming out far from shore.

Sharks are magnificent animals and are beautiful in the wild.

I am an avid scuba diver....have been on shark feeding dives, seen sharks during open water dives, and have even gone Great White Shark cage diving off the coast of San Diego years ago.

Incredible experiences.

Very cool video, but I'm not sure I buy the shark story. Why wouldn't he hop on the boat that is following him if his life is in imminent danger?

Oh I'll just assume these dolphins are here to help and not to eat my chum leftovers after the shark shreds me to bits.

May have known that it wasn't a dangerous one?

Last 4 years, we have done our summer family trip to the beach during the same first week of August.....which happens to be Shark Week.

Nothing like watching shark shows at night before hitting the surf in the morning.  My two sons think it is funny and cool.  My 14 yo daughter....not so much.

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pats win it all or at least get there. Maye is awesome.
    • Young quarterbacks Drake Maye, Bo Nix, and Bryce Young have led their teams to undefeated records since October.   Drake Maye has guided the New England Patriots to a 5-0 record in that period, with 2,285 passing yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games. Bo Nix has directed the Denver Broncos to a 5-0 stretch, throwing for 1,976 yards and 17 touchdowns, contributing to a 7-2 overall start. Bryce Young, in his second season, has led the Carolina Panthers to a 4-0 run since October, accumulating 1,390 yards and 11 touchdowns amid a 4-4 record.   Undefeated QBs since start of October (min. 4 starts)   Drake Maye 5-0 Bo Nix 5-0 Bryce Young 4-0   Bryce Young when asked about his mindset during game winning drives: "You don’t rise to the occasion you fall back to the level of your training."
    • 1. Cowboys-No explanation needed. 2. Rest of NFC South equally. If I had to pick I would say Falcons.    3. Eagles- Both of the games I have attended there the fans were so horrible. The fan base is so ridiculously misbehaved, I’ve never seen such immaturity. 4- Lions- I have cousins in Michigan that grew up Lions fans and they are some of the most obnoxious people I have ever met, as are all of their Lions buddies. The NFL has been lucky that Detroit has been in the cellar for its eternity.    5. Tie between Bears and Vikings. Both act like Steelers, Cowboys, Niners fans do with nostalgia and legendary seasons but neither have ever really had them. They act like they each won 5 super bowls in previous decades but never accomplished poo outside of Chicago in 85.
