Naysayers, give it a rest. At least for awhile. You only have to look at #1 to see hope.

Dawg, I get it...  But, in the same breath, you have Benjamin-jocksniffers already singing his praises and saying how he singlehandedly will allow Cam to throw for record yards in a single season.  Then I open another thread and see huddlers completely shitting on the idea of getting Stevie Johnson for a 4th (now no longer a possibility), because they don't want him near Benjamin and ruining him...  lol.  The dude has not even put on a uniform for us yet.  He has not taken an NFL snap.  He isn't AJ Green or Megatron, and he definitely did NOT have their college career.

The issue here is blind homerism is running rampant.  There are some haters, but the homerism is on a another level as well.  I haven't seen it like this in quite awhile, and I've seen it from several people who are usually very reserved and level-headed.

Each of the last three drafts prior to this one, I locked in early on one guy that I wanted and KNEW without a doubt in my amatuer opinion, that those guys would be absolute beasts in the NFL - Cam, Luke, and Star.  And I was right on each of them...  This was before any of them were really mocked to us.

This year, for what it's worth, I have repeatedly said, I did not want Benjamin.  I just don't trust him and there is a lot of hype around him because of the Nat'l Championship.  When I've watched him play, I am not impressed.

Could be, and hopefully for our team's sake, that I finally got it wrong with this draft.  I still am not happy with the pick, but honestly, at #28, how many options did we have?  So, now I'm hoping for the best.  But, honestly, the hate and the homerism is kind of negating one another.

Sounds like a lot of sour grapes to me. He's a Panther, get on board.

Why is homerism derided??

Maybe we have too many fugging football scholars and not enough fans. Just get on board and act like he is the one you wanted all along!!!

Yeah, I enjoy being a fan.

If I was being paid then, yeah, I could probably do my best not to put the fan goggles on.  But, if you're not being paid, what's the damn point?

This how feel.

Just curious, who did you want us to draft at 28?

I obviously am on board with it now because he's ours, I'm just saying you can't be angry at others for not wanting the pick beofre it happened and completely ignore the idiocy that as a rookie a gigantic guy who some scouts compare favorably to Plaxico Burress will come in and break Randy Moss' rookie records, lol.

Odds are, I will actually grow ridiculously optimistic and excited about the potential of the Cam to Kelvin, but I'm still less than 24-hours removed from being convinced he would be a bust.  That's not hate, I thought there were a lot of questions about him talent-wise...  But, as I said, all of that is for naught now...  He's a Panther and I'm hoping he will indeed be a beast.

Cam and Benjamin will be a deadly combination. But I think they can go for another piece. Correct me if I am wrong but we can cut Williams and Stewart and not hurt our cap. If that is the case and the panthers fix up their offensive line. Would be happy if they took Todd Gurley in next year's draft. I think he is the real deal and the player everyone taught Treat Richardson was. Combine him with Kenjon, panthers will be the team of the decade.

I haven't seen anyone say that he is going to come in and break Randy Moss's records. Maybe one or two homers that I've missed.

Most fans are just excited about his size and potential, and the fact that our scouts, coaches, and our general manager who have actually spent time with him had him at the top of our board and were targeting him all along wasted very little time in sending in our pick.

Well, I like all of that too, I just think expectations are a dangerous thing sometimes.  I want him to se rookie records, but I'd be happy with Panther rookie records, I'm not thinking Randy Moss until I see him suit up and get to see how he plays.

And I promise you, it was said, lol.

Regardless, I'm not gonna derail the thread.  He is a Panther and I hope he is everything we hope he'll be.

I also don't see all that many people saying he will be a flop.

Why do naysayers have to give it a rest? They might be right and this is a discussion forum for voicing opinion.

Much of the opposition has looked less like discussion and more like people just being upset that others don't agree with their criticisms.

aj green was a beast in college but he never went over a 1000 yards. also he never sniffed 15 tds.

calvin last year was real similar to kb's production. both had just over a 1000 yards and 15 tds.....also kb had a better avg per catch.

overall they did better only cause they played LONGER.

    • The bottom line is we saw long stretches this season where T-Mac wasn't even targeted.  He had games where he went an entire half without seeing a pass thrown his way, and it lead to a bunch of games with 5 or less targets.  If he's healthy and we're not up a stupid amount and only running the ball, I can't see him having more than a game or two next year with 5 or less targets. We were also only 22nd this year in pass attempts, and that was with a rookie #1 and no legitimate 2nd option for half the season.  And even then, we were only 46 pass attempts above 31st place. If we go into next season with T-Mac improved in his 2nd season and a healthy Coker for 17 games, there is absolutely no reason for us to not throw it more.  That right away increases both of their target totals without sacrificing any targets from each other or other players, add in them taking targets from the TEs and RBs on top of that, and your argument just doesn't hold water anymore. You can't look at targets/yards in a vacuum and think next year Coker just takes some from T-Mac.  You have to look at the team as a whole and our situations this year and then project what will happen next year. If he's healthy for 17 games, I'd bet my life savings that T-Mac sees increases across the board, targets/catches/yards/TDs.   Just as Coker will also see career highs in all categories, it's not one vs the other, it's shifting offensive strategy given our personnel, which next year will be much better for our passing game (QB issues aside).
    • C'mon now.... First, you can't switch up your argument once someone points out a major flaw in your point. You're saying we shouldn't expect a big increase in targets/yards for T-Mac, but then shift to talking about averages with Chase when I point out the significant leap he took there once you factor in his missing games.  He saw an increase in targets in 5 less games, averages aside, he saw a significant increase in targets in his 2nd season, what he then did with those targets is actually irrelevant in this discussion. Puka seeing no increase is pointless, as he saw such an absurd amount of targets for a rookie, it's near impossible to see an increase. But the real issue in this post is that you think I'm proving your point by showing how Waddle had to share targets with Hill. Tyreek Hill was a 1st team All Pro who was 2nd in the NFL in yards that season. If you think Jaylen Waddle sharing targets with a 1st team All Pro and a future HOFer is even remotely in the same category as T-Mac needing to share targets with Coker... then you are certifiably insane, lol. If anything, you could make the argument that Coker is to Waddle as T-Mac is to Hill in that discussion (which would then lead to a serious increase in targets/yards for T-Mac).  But even that is insane, as neither T-Mac or Coker will be as good as Hill and Waddle respectively that season.  I love both of their potential, but c'mon now, T-Mac isn't getting 119 catches for 1,700 yards and Coker isn't getting 117 for 1,350 next season.
