Anecdotal Blind Cam Hate Story

So, just thought I would share this...

Yesterday at my job, a co-worker and I were talking the draft and our teams...  He's a huge Bears fan that was born and raised in the Carolinas.  So, we're talking football and I tell him that I just don't like Jay Cutler and thought the Bears should've given McCown a smaller deal and draft a QB and move on from him.  He agreed they overpaid and said he wish they wouldn't have given him that huge extension, BUT said if he had hit the market he would've been the best QB available.  He then says he understands though, that most people think Cutler isn't very good and says he would have him around #15 himself, ranking-wise.

So, we get around to talking about my team, and I'm talking about how good we have it going forward because of Cam and Luke on each side of the ball and that we just need to surround them with great talent for the future.  He then interjects that Cam isn't the type of QB that can win a Superbowl.  I ask why?  He says, because, "he doesn't have an arm."  He then says, "Yeah, he would be in my bottom 15."

I'm new at the job, and the guy seems cool otherwise, so I do my best not to blow my fuging top, but I quickly say, "I have to disagree.  He has a rocket launcher for an arm.  Are you saying that he can't throw, or he prefers to run instead of throw when it comes down to it?"  I was completely flabbergasted...  Who the fug that knows anything about football says he doesn't have an arm?  LOL.  Even with all the hate in the draft process, there was never a doubt about his ability...  it's all-world.  So, I had no idea where this was coming from.

So, I then begin to give reasons as to why he CAN throw, which still to me is asinine, lol, and all the while his face is turning bright red...  It's like Cam personally came to his house after he poured his bowl of Cracklin' Oats and pissed all in them.  He interrupts, "We'll just have to agree to disagree."  I always feel I have to have the last word, but I could sense he was heated for no apparent reason aside from Cam hate, so I continue to defend my QB (*T.O. face*), and he says, "But, would you feel that way if he wasn't on your team."

I say, "Absolutely...  I look at it like this...  If he was on a division rival, would I want to have to play him twice a year?  Hell no.  I don't want to have to play him at all."  He quickly segued that into how the Bears have to play Aaron Rodgers twice a year...

LOL.

Anyway, cool story bro.  Just thought I would share, as I was unaware there were people that still thought they could pass off personal hate as fact.  "NO ARM"????  At least give me the old "intangibles" argument or something that can't be easily disproven by watching one throw.  Unbelievable.

There is a lot of ignorance from fans throughout the NFL in regards to Cam. Some of it is just blind hatred because Auburn kicked their favorite teams ass in college, and some of it is just plain racism and stereotypes regarding black quarterbacks, can't sugar coat it, it's the truth.

As you may know from my other posts I'm living in Boston right now and you have absolutely no idea the hell I go through with these fans out here. I talk to a lot of people and everyone tears Cam apart to pieces saying he's a baby and the most inaccurate QB in the league and how they'd much rather have Kaepernick, Wilson, RG3, Luck, etc. It's gotten to the point where I can't discuss football with anyone in Boston because they all have their noses stuck so far up Tom Brady's ass it's not even funny. God what I'd give to get out of this dump.

If people dont really know football, they just puck an extremely vague topic and use that against a player. 95% of people here do the same thing about guys outside the NFC South.

Most people have no clue, but like to pretend they do

What I find absolutely ridiculous is the Teddy Bridgewater hate this year. Teddy is like a "stereotypical white" QB pure pocket passer and smart, whereas the white Manziel is like the "stereotypical black rushing" QB like people think of RG3, Cam, Kaepernick, Wilson, Vick. Typically people would tear apart the "black rushing" QBs saying they'll never last while saying how great the white pocket passers are, but now this year it's the complete opposite just because Teddy is black and Manziel is white. I don't understand how people try to justify this.

well for one Teddy F'd up his pro-day which is supposed to be his showcase.

But yeah if Manziel was black I doubt there would be all these commentators saying how they like his "edge".

That's why I asked about the "running over throwing" question to see what was at the root of it, but I'm guessing he knew what I was getting at and then he didn't want to talk about it anymore.

I sensed that was a part of it, but some people just can't take all of Cam's swag, so they can't explain their hate.

I mean, did anyone outside of our fanbase watch what he did last year in multiple 4th quarter comebacks?  It was ridiculous.  It was like he was sure we had Ken Dorsey taking snaps or something...

Oh well, I fought the good fight.

Hate to say it but you would probably hear some of that from people in Charlotte as well.

    • I must apologize, my sarcasm at times doesnt translate well in text form lol. At this point I would welcome us signing him, Trey Lance, trading for Jameis Winston, asking about Deshaun Watson and playing phone tag with Tom Brady before I ever fully entertain a season of Bryce Young being the defacto Starting Quarterback of the Panthers.
    • Petey Pablo raises up for the Carolina Panthers pregame at the Roaring Riot tailgate. videoplayback (30).mp4
    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
