people keep on spouting this poo, but they don't give any real answers for how we are going to address those needs, esp. OT.

company line: the answer is on the roster or gettleman knowz what he's doing, but what exactly is he doing to make a bad line better?

how are we suppose to know?

At this time, the draft is still on going.

Then there will be a second phase to free agency.

Until training camp has begun, I'm in no hurry to judge, cause there isn't anything to judge.

sure there is. we have the predraft wave of FA and the draft and we did nothing.

 

is it really a priority? i have more reason for doubting than for confidence.

I had a feeling the Panthers would be going defense with their second round pick, but I was thinking cornerback. Instead, the Panthers draft a defensive end which is probably one of the areas least in need, until you scratch the surface. How did the guy that many labeled as the second best defensive end in the draft fall to the Panthers in round 2? Why would the Panthers select him? Well, it is fairly simple.

It begins with "unnamed NFL scouts" who questioned his attitude. .

Con man... Con man... seems like I have heard that somewhere before. Oh, that's right, Cam Newton was called a con artist before the NFL draft as well. Remind me how that turned out for the Panthers.

When it comes to such strong terminology against a player, it is obviously personal. And when scouts leave the business mindset and get personal, it is time to ignore them. Clearly Gettleman saw past the rhetoric.

But is defensive end a need for the Panthers? Obviously, David Gettleman thinks so. This pick could be the biggest indicator yet on how long term contract talks are going with Greg Hardy. If Hardy is no longer with the Panthers next season, which is looking more and more likely, Ealy could possibly step in with solid production.

In Carolina, Ealy has the best case scenario. He does not have to come in and be the number one guy. He doesn't even need to be the number two guy. He can come in and learn from one of the best defensive line coaches in the game, Eric Washington. Washington has proven he can get production out of just about any defensive marginal talent given to him. I would expect big returns from a physical talent like Kony Ealy.

A realistic projection this season for Ealy would be as a situational pass rusher and in the rotation to spell Hardy and Johnson. While I would have preferred a starter in round 2, I really cannot fault Gettleman for looking to the future here and taking not only the best player available, but also a position of need.

I don't know Ealy personally, so im not flaming or defending him. But just because Cam worked out well for us, doesnt mean that other players with "bad reputation labels" will. Maybe Ealy is a giant thug, or maybe he's a total stand up guy. Dont know. But one man overcoming bullshit labels doesn't prove that they all will.

I get it but I am sure that this unknown source did not cause him to drop this far........I just do not know.

Chances are we will make due with what we have. We dont have much but we can make it work. Pretty much all the teams out there have one or more major problem. At this point I doubt you will find a quality OT to start but If you look at our team as a whole we are still in one of the better teams out there. 

 

Franchise QB - check, half the teams out there dont have a franchise QB

Elite Defense - check, only a handful of teams have an elite defense

 

We are at least 8-8 team just based on those 2 things. As long as our OL doesn't look like the giants OL then we should be good.

Except Ealy has a big reason why he has to succeed. He has a sister and family to take care of. I don't see him having a bad attitude as a potential reason why he won't succeed.

I don't understand where this supposed "bad attitude" is?

 

Is it because he thinks he's awesome?  That he's the best player there is?  Utterly confident in his abilities?

 

How is that different from every other NFL player?

If overconfidence was supposed to be a problem then Lebron James would be homeless. He probably rubbed a couple scouts the wring way in a couple interviews but it has nothing to do wit his work ethic with his work ethic
