Immediate thoughts vs more rational thinking.

Immediate reaction.

At first I was shocked. I wasn't super happy or pissed. Just kind of in the middle. The guy's physical attributes and ceiling are undeniable.I have wanted a legit big body redzone threat for Cam ever since we drafted him. We have that now. I would have been 10 times more excited about the pick if I didn't read so much into Gettleman's previous comments about running a full route tree, wide receivers taking a long time to assimilate and wanting a player who can start immediately with the top 3 picks.

My other problem is I thought well damn we can grab a receiver in round 2 and had a nice selection of Tackles that can come in and protect Cam immediately.

Rational reaction

Bottom line is I have come around to love this pick and am very pleased he's the one we got. I seriously think he has the potential to be the best receiver out of this class when its all said and done. Especially in the redzone. I also have to realize that we are going back to a physical run team that can help eat clock and wear defenses down. The dude can block and while he hasn't been super consistent he has shown the ability to make catches a few other receivers in the NFL can make. Gettleman said it best with you can teach 6'5 240, but in addition to that you can't teach the incredible ball skills the guy has displayed at times.

When the pick came up and Allen Robinson was available I was seeing the future. A nice compliment to Benjamin and not only the best receiving core Cam has had yet but also a young one to grow with him for a long time. I just knew he was the pick. The boom, we take Ealy. I honestly did not do much heavy research on this guy and still have not to the degree that I plan to. Again I remember Gettleman talking about having players who could start immediately with our first 3 picks and said to myself how in the hell is the guy going to see the field behind Hardy and Johnson??

Rational reaction

Well after trying to wrap my brain around it...the more I could see the positives in it. Depth is good thing to have on the d-line. When CJ was out last year we missed him. This guy can come in and spell CJ/Hardy and Even Star on 3rd and longs. He's also good insurance in case we can't keep Hardy long term, or unable to lower CJ's cap figure down the road. We have a very young, very talented and very deep front four now, which is the backbone of our team (aside from Cam). Some are assuming this spells the end for Johnson or Hardy if we can't come to terms on a long term deal. However I'd love to keep all 3 here as long as possible.

3 Trai Turner

Immediate reaction

Okay, I have heard of this name and thank god we picked a position of need.

My thinking has not changed much on this pick. I have researched him a bit further. I like that he's used to playing RG already and won't have to worry about switching to the left. I think he is an immediate upgrade to anyone not named Amini at the the guard spot for us. He has similar ability to Amini and really fortifies the interior of our line. I think we can finally run the ball up the gut again consistently now and 4th 1 will be an easier conversion for us now. I could be wrong on this but I think the reason he fell is because of not playing LG, which teams typically value more, however this works out perfect for us as we needed a good RG much more than LG.
