Can you name the 1 Offensive Tackle on our roster that was actually drafted?

Right not we have 7 total.

Byron Bell- Undrafted

Nate Chandler- Undrafted

Gary Williams - Undrafted

Kevin Hughes- Undrafted

Oscar Johnson- Undrafted

Andrew Mcdonald- Undrafted

Travis Bond- 7th round pick in 2013 of the Vikings...214 overall.

This isn't a bitching thread because we all already know what we have at Tackle, just found this to be damn interesting. We have to be the only team in the NFL without at least 3 drafted tackles.

Drafting tackles is not the issue. It is getting GOOD tackles that is the issue. Gettlemen obviously felt that none of the tackles after the first round were good enough for protecting Cam. So what will he do. He will use free agency to go after tackles. That are already proven. Not unknowns. It makes perfect sense to me. He knows that Cam Newton is our QB and that a QB needs to be protected in order for them to succeed. If Cam fails, Gettleman will be the first one out the door. Trust me.

If he does not address it in FA. It means he is content with are our current O-line. I will continue to trust Gettleman. Until we start losing. People need to get off this Marty Hurney syndrome (not talking to you directly, know you have been on this board for years). Where they think if we have a need that means we must get a player in typical fashion (drafting them or signing them). We have to believe in our coaches. We have no clue if Byron Bell or Nate Chandler will make deep strides this year. My main premise is that if Gettleman got us to 12-4 last year with scrubs at CB,WR, and O-line, he has a plan to address the o-line. I am not going to stress over it because of that. He is not Marty Hurney. I look at results. Don't care how he gets our players. If they are good don't care if they went in the 10000th round or we pay 5 cents for them. Can they do their job? That is all that matters to me. I did not like any of the tackles in this draft after the first round. Too many health concerns or lack of upside. So why should Gettleman invest a high pick, if he think the guy will not be on the team in four years? That is just my perspective. What do you think?

i expect him to fix the problem and improve the offensive line. i expect him to value the need enough to do what it takes to make it better.

i expect problems to be fixed. not ignored.

i'm not asking for perfect, i'm asking for better and at least an effort. i'm asking to be proactive in addressing it, rather than the passive route we take.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
