Called.

werd.

were going up next friday for 2 nights.

I think Ill call them Monday once I am back from the beach and see if I can't get a good deal on a more expensive hotel that hasn't booked many rooms for next weekend.

Hopefully, or else mama has to pay $350-$400 for 2 freaking nights. Ridiculous

Only drawback is two doubles, didn't have a king available.

But walking distance, and for me, that's key.

A few things I noticed while in Asheville.

1: I don't have enough tattoos to live there.

2: Saw 2 BMW's the entire weekend, but plenty of Subaru's.

3: If you don't look like "them" they don't like you in "their" city.

4: Didn't see much beef on any menu, almost none, and not one menu with a filet on it.

5: The people in the beer industry are the most "normal" and inviting of everyone there.

6: The IPA's are great, best thing about this city.

7: Not many pure bred dogs, seems cool and at the same time strange.

There are more musings, I just can't remember them all.....the IPA's.

Ami James moved here last year and opened up a shop "love hate asheville"

Lots of ashevillians adopt mutts

We get a lot and I mean a lot of northern tourists especially in the fall which adds to the locals disdain (even though it shouldn't because it's a big part of the economy here)

It's an "earthy" city and it snows here so subarus are the preferred car because good gas mileage and can handle the snow

The ipas are the top highlight of asheville

What restaurants did you go to?

The mutts thing is honorable, but different.

The disdain for tourists was palpable, and not attractive at all.  Every young person seemed to work in the "tourist" biz, I would have put a smile on my face, and worked as hard as possible.

The cars I get, but the lack of "nice" cars was noticeable.

Wicked Weed, Admiral, Curate, Sunny Point, Rhubarb, trying to remember the rest.

Ugh, the crappy part is its a town full of hippies and good beer, but since the Biltmore Estate is there, I have to pay $150+ to get a decent hotel room.

Baffles me.

I have been told to go to Salsa's- apparently a great Mexican Restaurant downtown.

Still havent booked my hotel room for Saturday, was hoping maybe the rates would go down the week of and I could get something good on priceline....not looking likely though.

As a Boone native a lot of the mountain town disdain for tourists comes from a fairly prevalent perception of every local being a barely literate hillbilly.

I used to want to punch every fuging Yankee twat or Floridian who would talk all slow and loud to me like I spoke a foreign fuging language.

We went to Limones for Mex, but it was overrated.

Honestly almost everything was overrated except for the beer.  That said, I will go back, hopefully in the fall of next year.  Heading to Boston this fall.

I'm sorry if you guys had a bad experience in Asheville. Dont think that we are all like that. The locals are much nicer than the hippies (everybody hates them). We have so many damn Floridian's and Yankees around now that if you want true southern hospitality you have to go further west.

Salsa's has been around for years.  Great food.  And, unless things have changed...a real hole in the wall.
