A baby...duck

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

So I get a text from my girlfriend that says "She's your daughter".

Knowing what's usually behind that phrase, I ask "What's she done now?"

Girlfriend took her kids (and wannabe future son in law) to a flea market this weekend where she sold a few things and made a little money.  Afterward, she gives each of the three of them five bucks and tells them to go off and but something for themselves.

To be clear, no instructions, limitations or caveats were given to this group consisting of a 15 year old boy, a 17 year old girl and a 19 year old boy.

(what the hell were you thinking, baby?)

About fifteen minutes later, daughter comes back with something neither I nor my girlfriend were aware could be purchased for under five dollars.

A living, breathing baby duck.

Leaving this in my girlfriend's hands, I assumed some arrangement would be made to return the critter from whence he came.

Eeeeeehhhh, no

So now, in addition to the parrot (mine) and the two cats (hers) that were already part of our family, we are the proud grandparents of a baby duck, and the subjects of what's bound to be one of the weirdest freaking family portraits of all time

I have seen this before. Teenagers of the same age went duck shopping at the flea market. If you know any vetinarians you may want to ask them if there are any health risks or shots required. If they were purchased for under $5 you have to wonder where they were born and what kind of germs were present.

As for the Duck situation with my coworkers kids. They kept three ducks in a dog kennel and a snake ate well over night. They  were.....sunglasses........sitting ducks in that dog kennel. YEEEEEEEEEEEAH.

ducks as pets aren't that bad... they just can be a little gross (they don't mind shitting in their food)

i knew a guy after graduating high school that had a pet duck. it walked on a leash and he'd take a small kiddy pool or rubbermaid bin with him everywhere. i'd know every time he was over at a buddies house we both knew because the duck would be tied up to the front porch on his leash swimming around happy as can be in the pool or bin

but, as someone who has raised chickens and ducks in the past on a farm... they would much rather prefer to have a few friends and a small chicken coop built for them. duck eggs are good eatings too

You know those warning labels that no rational person needs?  They have to be there of course because some brave soul tried something that no one else before them had ever tried.  As a result, now we actually have to tell people that the hemorrhoid cream is not to be taken internally.

My future daughter is one of those pioneers.

Parents who give their child money normally shouldn't have to say "Here's some cash...Oh, and don't buy a duck" but thanks to my sweet, beautiful little girl, from now on it can no longer be assumed

    • I wouldn't be opposed to trading for Sanders and seeing if he could be developed here. We have zero plans, and I really don't think it would take Sanders long to produce more than Bryce has. Plus, he's on a 5th round rookie contract and if he became the guy, you instantly have three years to build a core of talent, much of which we already have.  I get flamed for this opinion but it is what it is, and I've been right about these type of things the past three years.  I said Nix would be a good NFL QB. Wanted to keep Darnold and trade down in 2023. Said QB play wasn't the QB's fault under Rhule, but rather the offensive design.  Give me Sanders in the room for a year with Bryce and Dalton, see what he can develop in to on the cheap. There are no really quality QB's coming out this year that aren't Allar or Manning, and Manning may not even be coming out.
    • basically if the panthers trade Thielen they're not trying to win this year. I mean they're not going to regardless but this means its the plan not to.  no team is going into the season in 2025 with 80 career catches between their top 3 healthy WR.  you'd be turning this from a bottom 3rd of the league offense to like the nathan peterman bills pair that with a defense that is most likely going to struggle, and they're looking at 2001 again.
