PSLs

Psl owners built BOA stadium. And if it were not for the PSL owners commitment, the NFL would have never granted Carolina a team. So, you must be confusing our sense of pride with entitlement.

Too bad Jerry doesn't remember that.  He's too busy giving Goodell a rim job 24/7 to give a poo.

There are literally no benefits, unless you're Jerry Richardson. It greatly benefits him, mainly his wallet. You have to pay the thousands of dollars for the PSL (for every individual seat) plus the normal price for season tickets. Then you buy season tickets every single year thereafter. And you have to buy season tickets every single year or they take away your PSL and sell it to someone else, and you lose all of that money. You pay a ridiculous amount of money to feel entitled and feel special and walk around saying "I'm a PSL owner!" About the only benefit I see is being able to keep the exact same seat every year, but that's also a negative. If you just buy season tickets you can switch up sections every year and view the stadium from different angles.

Why anyone would pay throw away all that money for nothing is beyond me. And it's not like the tickets will ever become UNC-Duke @ Cameron levels of expensive and hard to get. There will always be seats reserved for season tickets and individual purchase. You'll always be able to get in the stadium anytime you please.

Don't let them tell you "well when the team wins a Super Bowl and tickets are 500% face value it'll be worth it." No it won't. It all evens out because you're still having to buy all those tickets when the team is 2-14 and the laughing stock of the league.

My dad bought a pair of PSLs in '95. He paid nearly $20k for 2 PSLs and has paid fill price for season tickets (full price for all preseason games also) for 20 years now. All those losing seasons, '01 1-15 & '10 2-14 teams that were unwatchable included, and he still had to fork over the money just to keep from losing his PSLs. Whereas I didn't buy PSLs, and I've never even bought season tickets because you have to pay full price for 2 preseason games. I've been to all but 5 games in Charlotte since '96. And I didn't have to buy PSLs or season tickets. Yeah, last year and this year I'll be paying a bit over face value, but all those years the team sucked I either got tickets for a fraction of the cost, and a lot of times people just gave them to me. I've sat in about every upper and lower level section and seen the stadium from all angles. Whereas my father has paid out of his ass every year and sees the games from the same seat every year.

Don't be a sucker.

A lot of valid points here. Another question would be when they raze this stadium in 8 to 10 years and build a new one, will your license transfer to the new stadium. I suspect even if it transfers somehow there will be some sort of transfer "fee" that will be imposed.

They would not, the PSL you own is for that stadium not any other.

PSLs are a double edged sword, every owner wishes they had PSLs now and when they open new stadiums they will use this process even if they dont need the funding. Its great for owners and the NFL because it forces the customer to buy a product when it sucks. It "sells out" games even for 2-14 teams (look at '10 Panthers). The Panthers have a long sell out streak but let's be honest, those 1-15 seasons, 2-14, and hell even the 7-9's etc we didnt sell out and the stadium had empty seats. It keeps them from getting blacked out and from losing the TV income when they dont sell out.

Yes they helped build BoA stadium but they literally have no purpose now. They have added perks especially after the 2-14 year because they knew the value of the product wasnt there. For some its great for others its not it just depends on your cup of tea.

PSL owners paid for the stadium. There's no debating that. There's debate to whether or not it was invented in Charlotte, but the Panthers were the first professional sports team to use them. That idea is generally credited with helping Charlotte land a team, so the people who are saying we wouldn't have a team without PSL owners are basically correct.

My brother - who owns a business in Charlotte - has eight PSLs. There are definitely perks. Field passes, PSL owner-only events, and sitting with the same group of people at each game. (I'd consider that a perk. Maybe someone else wouldn't.) He's gotten to know some of the on-field staff. Jerry Richardson called him in 2010 when he emailed the front office to gripe about the teams' poor performance. Talked to him for about twenty minutes to discuss his concerns. That's pretty cool. I doubt JR is calling any non-PSL owners.

Is what I mentioned worth all the upfront PSL money? He thinks so. I think so, too. He has great seats. I drive from Virginia for multiple games each year and it's nice to know we're always going to have seats, the price for each season is generally the same, you don't have to scramble to find seats when they go on sale, and you always know exactly where you're going to be sitting. If you buy two now and want to get better PSLs in the future, you can (try to) sell what you have to help pay for the new ones.

Please thank your dad for being one of the "suckers" who ensured we all have a true home team to root for.

At the time, the idea putting an NFL franchise in the Carolinas was literally a joke to many including several owners until JR told them he could build an entirely privately funded stadium, which was basically unheard of at the time.

I mean the memory my son has from this make the PSL fee well worth it and then some. Midfield for the coin toss of a freakin NFL game. That's him in the Newton jersey. Thanks PSLs.

Yes, the original PSL owners were the reason we got the team and it paid for the stadium.

Now, on to pros and cons for buying them today:

Pro....guaranteed playoff tickets for face value (even though face goes up with each round)

Pro....guaranteed sets for every game in your preferred section.  Nice to know the people around you.

Con....paying face value for pre-season games

Con....paying full price for games you can't attend or when the team is having a shitty season

Con....for some sitting in the same section is a con.  Some people like to experience the game from different viewpoints and sections.

All in all.....I am very thankful for the original PSL owners.  But, I am not sure I would buy PSL's on the open market again.  I would probably buy the tickets I wanted on the street.

I've been a PSL owner since the beginning (first wave), and I respectfully disagree with you.

Sitting in a playoff seat thats running 300+ online and only paying half that, yea those pesky perks.

This has been and is a "concern" of mine.  The positive is I do not think there will be a new stadium here anytime soon, not at least 20 years or so from now, if not longer.  I know people will chime in as to why I am wrong, etc; but that is how is see it.  While the stadium was built awhile ago, fortunately it was done so with plenty of Suites, Boxes, and Club seats (all of what the older placed did not have and they all want).  There are also plenty of seats for everyone else.  That, plus the stadium is nice and I think pretty cool look, feel, etc.  I have been to plenty stadiums over the years all around, and Panther Stadium is not to shabby compared to many others.  Again, opinion.  There is also plenty of room inside for them to eventually do more.

That all being said.... yeah... if I ever find myself in a position where I have to try to get what I have in a new stadium... it will suck.

As far as other posters and that one blasting the PSL.   Bottom line I was living in a city where this is how they did it and I had a choice.  I did not look at is an investment but an expense that the $3k I spent per seat (while it sucked) when you look at that over the 20 -30+ years I will be going to games that was just adding a couple of dollars to the ticket price.

Anyhooo.... cant wait for the home opener...... Go Panthers!!

And YES they do try to give more for being a PSL owner... We also won a fan experience and my son and I were on the sideline, and on the field at the Playoff Game against the Niners during player warmups, intros and anthem holding the US Flag.
