From a Weakness to a Strength?

Recommended Posts

I don't have the concern I had at the beginning of camp.  Granted they haven't faced real bullets but my feeling is they are performing against one of the best defenses in the league EVERY day.  I think they shake the butterflies early and should perform against the Bills as they have in training camp.

1.  KB is going to be the real deal.  Cam is going to force success on KB, Only possible weakness getting off the line. Ricky will fix that.

2. Avant and Cotchery will be as good as advertised.  I see two very good sure handed WRs being perfect compliments to KB.

3. Bersin at 6'3" and sure hands is another big target for Cam

4. King and Lucas (another big target) showing they can play.  No way either of these two survive waivers to the Practice Squad

5. Philly Brown making a case to be the PR and be a future WR.  Could Brown be the next Ginn?  Brown was only .02 slower than Ginn. (I posted that once before after we signed him)

6. Pilares who is having a good preseason could be odd man out just because of the depth.

7. Underwood is finally waking up but Maybe too late.

Of the WR that are fighting for this team only McNutt seems to be playing his way off this team.

Take away Benji, Avant and Cotchery we have six quality receivers fighting for two or three spots.

What I love the most.  Out of our top 4 or 5 receivers the word DROP is not mentioned too often.  That translates to Cam  having a higher completion rating and a higher QB rating.

I am very excited to see all of these guys perform.

My dream squad

Benjiman  6'5'

Avant        6'

Cotchery  6" 1"

Bersin      6' 3"

Lucas      6" 4"

KIng        6" 1"

I know the odds are low that we keep 6 unless one of these guys are a PR/KR but it is my list. :money:

We do have decent depth. The past 15 seasons it's been Steve Smith, Moose and nobody else worth a damn. Lucas and King probably battle each other for a spot. Also, now that preseason is here I wouldn't be surprised to see Underwood start to make big plays.

I also do not think what you saw in training camp will be anything close to real game time.  When Cam was practicing he had much more time to make his throws than he will in a game.  I think our wr corps will me mediocre at best and we had best have a good run game this year.

These guys are catching ball with DBs all over them.  I don't see how you can say Mediocre at best.  That is a quite pessimistic outlook. While the pressure on the QB might make it more difficult for Cam to pass.  These receivers should be able to get open and when the ball is throw there way..  We won't be sitting on the edge of our couch praying they don't drop it.

I am not calling this group elite YET but I clearly see a better WR corps than last season.

These guys are also aware they wont be taking any big hits.  And how do we know our db s are really any damn good?  2 months ago on here everyone was pissing and moaning about how poo ty our secondary was.  Not trying to be pessimist here just keeping expectations closer to reality than some of you guys want to admit.

When you say Mediocre "AT BEST" that is pretty much pure pessimism.   Mediocre is a possibility and so is good and reliable.

Reality?  How many big hits to you see on WRs coming across the middle in one game.  1 maybe 2.  When you are 6 foot or taller.  You have the physical advantage over most DBs.

The reality is closer to what you see in practice than the possibility of these guys just disappearing off the face of the earth when the game is real.

That really is a nice list Dave. I just cant see Underwood not making the team, just by the fact he has real production/experience in real games. Now with us he will be playing for a two time Pro Bowl QB. I think he could show out. But letting go of Lucas or King really is sickening.

With Barner/Cason/Bene returning punts, Philly isnt a necessity. Unless Philly, King, or Lucas shows out, two will be walking. Thats not even including Pilares who has shown return ability and J has said he has had a pretty good camp.

WR is def the best competition to focus on.

    • Yes. It's fluff time anyways but it's getting a bit ridiculous. I don't believe this mix has ever worked for the Panthers before. Break .500 and then start the hype.
    • While I have a chance to be overly excited I'll take that opportunity. The team will determine what happens with that. It's been a while since we've had much to be excited about, I'd say let's just embrace it and see how it unfolds.
    • Knowns: top 10 o line 2 proven, quality RBs 2 proven, WRs who get open and catch everything. 2 others who show a lot of ‘potential’ A QB who improved greatly in the last few games of the season, topped off by putting up a 40 burger win in OT in this franchise’s kryptonite house. What will transpire this season is yet to be seen.  defense has far less proven. 2  very good CBs, a stud DT (coming off a major injury) and the rest is, again, ‘potential.’ A DC that is essentially starting the season on the hot seat.  This is not 2003, but it could be good. 2003 was the most stacked roster from top to bottom that this team has ever had. This squad finished on a big upswing, yes, but we’ll see.  I think it all comes down to how spiked your hopium is. The running game is where it is for the team. This is not a defense that will win 3 points games. Just not. To win, this team will have to dominate TOP and come up with 2+ more 3rd down stops each game. Again, do-able and should be good for at least a 7 point differential in our favor, ‘hopefully.’  I will say that it is nice seeing talent that actually belongs in the NFL on our roster.
