Pre-season Game 1: Winners and Losers

I will save my winners/losers for guys who are not automatics to make the team.

Winner: Whitaker Loser: Barner

Winner: Addison Loser: Ealy

Winner: Norman Loser: Godfrey

I thought in limited snaps Whitaker looked great. I think he is exactly why they want barner to be. He snatched the ball out of the air and turned up field gaining good yardage both times.

Barner was indecisive and let one bounce off his chest, much like his few chances last year.

I'd like to see fozzy in a third down back role, although I'm not sure what his pass blocking looks like

My winners last night was the first team D for picking up where they left off last year with a huge goal line stop. Next, Webb for making the most of his opportunity. Finally, the rookies who played, playing in their first "real" NFL game wasn't too much for them.

My losers where Offensive Line (all) on run plays, they will have to improve for the team to advance. Finally, Lucas, if he was on the fence with the team he fell off last night with a huge drop in a critical point in the game.

Pilares is trash..  get him off the field at kick return.

Tbh how the cba is set up now I'm not supprised that our oline looks a bit off. Just not enough padded practice for it all, you also see LBs miss tackles early for the same reason.

KB, King, Williams, and Webb looked good.

 

 

 

I really want Barner to shine and the blocking was poo last night but he didn't display much shiftiness to make a play. His speed seems more like it's straight line. His first run was great but after that it went down hill.

Pilares is trash.. get him off the field at kick return.

Like Barner, Pilares does not offer the team anything. Was not impressed with either of them.

Was wondering why he took a knee 5 yrs deep in the end zone when it is preseason and needing to make plays to get a spot on the team. Show he does not have confidence in his return game.

Time to look at another return guy next week. Same for punt return. Barner stinks as a punt returner as well.

the play Godfrey was beat on was designed perfectly for the defense played by the panthers. the panthers where in  press man with safety help over top. Watkins ran a slant route, that picked Godfrey off the wheel route ran by Hogan. hard to get mad at him for getting picked off his guy.

 

was surprised to see Ealy play, because it was rather well.on a counter play, the LG pulled and he took on the block with inside shoulder, keeping his outside arm free incase the RB tried to bounce it outside. this forced the the RB cutback inside to the help. he also played the playaction ok, not falling for the fake hand off. he did lose containment tho on the play, by allowing Lewis to get outside of him.

God, games really show the idiots on this board. It's easier for them to hide during the offseason.

I bet most huddlers where mulitasking ala on the web/phone, not me. The game gets my full attention, not a fastasy update or hot gf bending over, no time for that stuff panthers are playing.
