Rumors the Hornets might be interested in Josh Smith

Hopefully these articles and rumors have been made up out of thin air.

A rumor is swirling around the NBA that the Detroit Pistons might be looking to trade away forward Josh Smith.

Although the Pistons have denied that they want to trade away Josh Smith, it isn’t keeping everybody from talking about it, and exploring all the possible landing spots for Smith.

Yes, but at the right cost.Several teams have came up as possibilities, and the Charlotte Hornets happen to be one of them. Should the Charlotte Hornets make a run at Josh Smith if given the opportunity?

Last season with the Detroit Pistons Josh Smith averaged 16 points, and 6 rebounds per game. His best season came in 2011-2012 with the Atlanta Hawks when he averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game.

Would I give up a lot for Josh Smith? Absolutely not, but what would the Hornets have to give up to change Detroit’s mind? Well, we don’t know the answer to that considering that the Pistons have denied that Smith is on the trade block.

It would be something along the lines of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Gerald Henderson, and maybe a draft pick.

Would I do that trade if I was Charlotte? In a heartbeat, yes.

It all depends on the development of P.J. Hairston. If P.J. becomes a great NBA player we all know he is capable of being, what is the need to have Gerald Henderson on the roster still? Charlotte signed Lance Stephenson, he will get the majority of the minutes at the shooting guard position, you don’t need 3 SG’s on your team that are all capable of starting.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is still young and we have yet to see his best basketball yet, but trading him for Josh Smith is a upgrade and is something the Hornets should at least consider.

No thank you, i'd rather hold onto MKG.

I would be overwhelmed with frustration if we traded MKG, Hendo and a pick as this guy is suggesting we do.. You'd be losing a 6th man and the core of our defense. I don't know where some of these writers get their ideas from.

I wouldn't discredit the rumor. If I'm correct, I think Charlotte was rumored as a Josh Smith fan before he went to Detroit.

I would like the move only if we don't have to give up MKG. Hendo or Zeller would def be fine. Josh Smith would help solidify Charlotte as a legit Top3 in the East; well at least on paper. I'd play him off the bench tho.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
