Who's the 'Prototype' for the New Age QB? Newton or Luck?

Thanks. I said it yesterday and often that he is (will be) the GOAT. I'm country music and scruffy as well by the way, but I have a set of eyeballs and can look objectively at numbers. I also just got a black Newton jersey for my birthday nearly a decade after thinking I would never wear a jersey again.

Good morning Panthers fans! Our FBGP Analyst Gene Clemons took a look at both Andrew Luck & Cam Newton and analyzing why Newton is being critically undervalued for what he brings to the table.

Enjoy

Enjoyed the write up but you did get wrong one thing which Newton has always dressed better than Luck or any of the young QBs. He always is wearing suits or sweater vests. He is clean cut and is very articulate even when saying the wrong words or phrases. Ive never seen him with a backward hat on.

I hope it gets attention, FC. I do think a lot of people dont like Cam because he is prideful. I hear it mentioned often specifically from fair weather football fans, the same ones who never liked Steve Smith.

Remember the Deion Sanders interview?

Deion, "Do you smell the cologne I'm wearing?"

Cam, "No."

Deion, "It's called confidence. I wear it every day. You got that same scent."

Cam, "It smell good don't it?"

We are so lucky to not only have the GOAT, but a fun personality as well. Embrace the jealousy/hate.

Thanks Gang! Gene has done a great job with his 1st & Forever columns. We've been getting good feedback from you guys wanting written content on our site in addition to what we do with the videos.

I have a video coming out about players that were were ahead of their time that were considered 'busts'

I don't see how anyone can watch Newton play (of course that's part of the big problem, most don't watch him play, but are quick to talk) and say he doesn't have the impact, or even more than Luck.

Cam's Rookie season, and even the past two years, he's had to be most of, or the whole show.

Cam doesn't have the luxury of a great running game, WR's or O-Line to fall back on (which makes other young QB's jobs and stats much easier). Of course Cam and Luck are in similar scenarios (compared to Kaepernick, RG3 and Wilson). However, Lucks defense was good enough the past two years to hold onto his 4th quarter comebacks, while Cam's defense (regardless of their ratings), blew their 4th quarter leads, while Cam got the blame--though he put the team in position to win. Luck also plays in a soft division.

I agree but I personally wouldn't take anything away from Luck. He's led some breathtaking comeback drives. They are both stars.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
