@PFF: With a pair of second year Defensive Tackles to get excited about, what can you expect from the #Panthers in '14 https://t.co/gD9z68ACLJ

5 Reasons to be confident

4. Melvin White

An undrafted free agent a year ago, Melvin White took over one of the starting cornerback jobs midseason and heads into 2014 looking to improve in his second year. Although preseason doesn’t count, it certainly matters, and White has shown improvement from last year. White finished the preseason fifth among all cornerbacks with a +5.0 grade and with many question marks in the Panthers’ secondary, White is near the bottom of the list and thus far serves as a success story for impact undrafted free agents.

They have 5 reasons to be confident and 5 reasons to be concerned. I'm on my phone so I just took one of the reasons to be confident and put it in the OP.

Up until recently I was pessimistic on the season, then I thought more about it. In 2011 we had a rookie QB, rookie HC, lockout year with no OTAs and literally the worst Ds in the league and we still won 6 games, with our D now being top 2 and our QB and HC with a ton more experience, its hard to see us losing less than 9 games.

Short was ranked 9th in pass rushing for DT. Good stat to have. Considering he was a rookie that's great.

Chandler had a horrible rating as a right guard (-11) but did have a decent rating as a right tackle (+2) which is something to look forward to. Chandler did have a - 3 rating this preseason but he was injured and it's hard to judge the preseason.

I think White will continue to improve and be the future at CB. If Norman can get it together we will have a good young trio of corners with White, Bene and Norman.

Winning less than 9 games?

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
