Godfrey not at fault in Bucs' first touchdown.

Godfrey had two men coming into his zone, one down the seam and another along the side-line. If White disrupts the outside receiver, then Godfrey potentially has more time to get over.

People can be upset with Godfrey all they want, but they should hold White equally responsibly in this touchdown. I just don't think Godfrey is as bad as people on this forum seem to think.

Holy S#$#!!!!  You must be new.

When the RJ Stanfords- Sherrod Martins - Josh Thomas - Josh Norman -Brandon Hogan's, And this case Melvin White don't hold up or miss assignments, Charles Godfrey looks bad.

When the Chris Gambles, Ken Lucas, Richard Marshalls were playing he was a pro-bowl alternate and got the big contracts.

Is he Ed Reed in his prime?  Hell to the no.  Has he lost a step or 3 from injury? Yes sir.   But he gets blamed for a lot of stuff that isn't his fault.  But I guess blaming the safety is the safe thing to do.

I get that cover and cpf, but as I said, my issue isn't yesterday. His play didn't cause us to lose the game, but it has several times in the past.

And I agree, at this point, he is best suited in the box, but the problem there is we already have players on the roster that are much better in that role than he is, so it's redundant.

Like I said, i'm not overreacting to that one play yesterday. I don't even recall commenting on it here until this thread. But, I do understand the frustration from most when they've seen him do the same thing for years. People feel like it's an exercise in futility if you keep the same guy out there and the same things continue to happen... why not find someone else and see if they can do it better?

I hope we give Chris Clemons a look...

Oh look another Godfrey apologist thread....what is this the 8,671 time one has been made.

If he is always the guy people are apologizing for and claiming he isn't at fault....then it is safe to say he isn't very good. Good players make plays....not get off on two billion technicalities that someone should of done X so it is okay

I don' think anyone is basing their assessment of Godfrey off of one play yesterday. If there is a target on his back it is because he placed it there with years of horrible play. Look at the advanced stats and where he has ranked as a safety throughout his career.

Wait, you don't have to do that... just go back and watch the number of huge passes and missed tackles he has given up as a starter. Now he's a backup and as soon as he steps into a position where he has to be counted on, a TD is given up.

Not disputing critical evaluations of his play, I just said that there always seems there has to be a player with a target on his back that folks yell and scream to have benched or cut. I just noted that since Byron did his job the focus pivoted to someone else.

I guess the avg huddler knows more about evaluating the play of Godfrey than do the coaches.....NOT.

I will trust RR ad staff's evaluation of his play and whether he deserves to start over anyone on here.

I've always been on the cut Godfrey bandwagon. I'll admit I was wrong about that play and I'm glad it wasn't all him. But like other have stated he is always disappointing me and maybe not always at fault but looks to be often enough to annoy me. Maybe my expectations are to high but I'd rather have a great player who finds ways to make plays out of a bad situation like Luke than a ok player like Godfrey.

Coaches get desperate and there hand is forced.

Hence why he was inserted at the last minute despite coaches saying he would only compete for nickel CB.

He did evaluate it. Got desperate

Lets go through the huddle checklist:

Can we blame Bryon Bell? Nope.  But I will say if he gives up a sack then he is back in the worst LT in football conversation.

Dwill?  Nope . not today.  However if Stewart plays better next week I will still insist he is the 3rd or 4th best running back on the team.

Shula?  hmm.. I really want to but can't because Cam didn't play.  There is always next week. Plus if we don't score at least 35 a game we are wasting our potential.

Godfrey?  I saw a touchdown and he was in the picture.  Yeah, Yeah lets go Godfrey.  I'm going to forget the good plays he made and focus on the bad.  Hmm.. Even RR is saying TD wasn't his fault............hmmm... well I'm not wrong I'm blaming him because of stuff 2 years ago.

We signed two new vet Safeties this offseason....don't really think our hand is forced with Godfrey.

The staff has always spoken highly of him.
