A Message to New Members

Recommended Posts

I finally gave up on Charlotte Observer forum, but believe me I'm here for quite a bit more than vick. Anytime you wanna talk I'm here for ya!

Definitely not intended for all new members -- I've seen your posts, and they're very insightful. We're glad you're here.

We all know the ones I'm talking about. They're the ones who sign up and, rather than contributing to one of the existing Vick threads, decide that they're opinion is so valuable and unique that it deserves its own thread.

They're also the ones who know practically nothing about the Panthers, save that Jake Delhomme threw five interceptions against Arizona and should be benched in favor of a guy who hasn't even played in a couple of years.

Isn't this another Vick thread???

It is, but it's the Vick thread to end all Vick threads. ;)

Welcome to the Huddle.

Chances are, you're here to talk about Michael Vick. That you've only just now sought out and signed up to a Panthers forum clearly shows how little a fan you are of our team and how ignorant you are of the Panthers as a whole. You are bandwagoners -- one-man fans. Where were you this offseason, when we were discussing things like the rookies, the new coaching staff, or the upcoming season?

If you are that much of a fan of Michael Vick, then feel free to hop off of the Panthers bandwagon and onto that of whichever team ends up signing him. But it will not be the Carolina Panthers.

Feel free to return to the Huddle the next time the Panthers do not explicitly turn down the leader of a dogfighting ring, or a quarterback who could never really play quarterback.

Until then,

Beaux Berry

I love u. ive viewed this forum for years but only started posting last season and never up until now have I tried to avoid this site as much as possible. My team is the Carolina Panthers. not dallas, not oakland. we dont run a circus here and never have. If we sign vick, awsome, we can discuss it after. If we tell vick to piss off, even better. The panthers going under the radar and not getting media attention is something I hope never changes. If you just joined in the past week, don't bother posting cuz myself or any true forum user here will never take u seriously and more importantly, don't care what you have to say

Yeah a website/forum that does not want new members. That is the ideal marketing strategy. Brilliant!!!

We will not be short on new members when I become a professional MMA fighter and put carolinahuddle.com on my undies. We will get a ton of new bodies. Just look what I did for CondomDepot.com already. :ciappa:

I never said I didn't want new members to come to the Huddle.

I once was a bandwagoner, and there's still a lot I could stand to learn about the league as a whole. But if these new posters are only coming here to talk about Vick, do you really think they're going to stick around once all the Vick talk dies down? What do members like this bring to a message board?

The goal of a message board is to attract members who are going to contribute to the board and grow along with it. Though it doesn't always seem to be, it's very much a reciprocal relationship. It's about community, and it's about intelligent discussion (most of this Vick talk doesn't qualify as such).

When I see a poster with only a handful of posts or a recent join date, I make it a point to welcome them to the Huddle and engage them in discussion. But these Vick posters are not even worthy of that -- they think they're unique in their opinion that Delhomme sucks and we should get Vick. Earth-shattering, I know.

Vick coming to Carolina is something that could be debated and discussed intelligently, to be sure, but most of the new members are far from that.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Beaux Berry again.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
