Steve Smith Is ON WFNZ Having A Confessional, Won't Let the Story End

I still find it hard to believe that people think Gettleman wouldn't say such things. The dude is about as frank as it comes in pressers and it got him into trouble before.

You just saw how the NFL botched the DV issue, AND you don't think it can get personal, rugged, offensive, or cutthroat behind closed doors? LOL. I've had people act like this in management positions when I was a kid making 15k a year. The stakes only get higher.

I agree about what DG suposedly said. A fast food manager won't say those things. Right now Smitty is full of dog-poo man. Someone needs to tell him to stfu. He's blowing up bridges .... he needs an intervention lol

God I hope he is. That's my kind of GM.

If you've ever worked for someone like this you would not think that way. It's not about whether or not DG can make good football decisions. Business is business. If your undrafted LT becomes a pro bowl player...great. If he sucks, well, there's that side of it too. It's about how you treat people. Who you are as man. That will also be a problem in the locker room.

You know who has the worst people skills of any front office guy in the league?

Bill Belichick.

Doesn't really seem to have affected players' desire to play for New England.

Can't blame Steve for wanting his name cleared.

The irony here is the best way to get his name cleared is to just shut up and play.

The longer this goes on, the worse he looks for not moving on. Obviously you're never going to hear that from the Cult of Smitty where he can do no wrong, but for those on the fence about this his behavior speaks volumes.

Gettleman is a prick and it is no secret. The Smith trade was personal, it was botched and it was a mistake. Everybody knew it then and everybody knows it now.

I don't care, it's over but Steve Smith is Steve Smith and I'm surprised he took this long to blow. He doesn't pull punches and he doesn't lie.

He may not "lie", but a raging narcissist will certainly have trouble interpreting even the most reasonable criticism. There is no way his account of what was said is verbatim. Since Gettleman would never entertain this issue, we'll never have his side to compare.

So calling into a local radio show unprovoked to poo on basically everyone you used to work for on the air is being a man?

Am I missing something?

The other irony of this is that Smitty claims to respect brutal honestly... if what he claims Gettleman said face to face with him is true, it doesn't get any more brutally honest than that, so why the sandy vagina?

I don't think his claims about what Gettleman said are true, or even close, I'm just pointing out his double-standard.

He said Gettleman looked him in the eye and basically told him he sucks and he's a pain in the ass, so why doesn't he respect that?

What reason does he have to lie?? He already embarrassed our franchise and the whole world saw it. He doesn't have to throw our lies to make Dave look bad because he did that on the field.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
