Instead of a foregone conclusion there needs to be a rethinking.

You can't invest in a dude like Greg. I was on the fence about it before this garbage about him even surfaced. But the combination of paying him $13 million this season to destroy our cap because he was impossible to sign, his boasting about money, his terrible attitude, and now this bad press? He was a time bomb waiting to cause us problems. We don't need his distraction.

If he gets his conviction overturned or not he's still the kind of idiot that specializes in screwing things up. Let him go be a Raider or something.

Who do we have to replace him??

I completely agree that I think he'll be worth the massive contract that he'll likely still get. However, I haven't thought it was going to be with Carolina since he was tagged and knew the tag wasn't to get a contract done with. After this whole blow up, I'm pretty close to 100% positive that Hardy won't be back next year. Giving CJ the reworked deal made me lean even harder to that side.

Now there might be a chance that Hardy will be welcomed back, but It will come with some hard hits to him.

he'll have to take a paycut in the 7-8m a season range.

Then Gettleman and Rivera need Hardy to convince JR to let him stay.

I have doubts that Richardson would want Hardy here even if he's found innocent. Then I have doubts that Hardy will take a deal in the 7-8 a year range. So because of those two factors, I'd say the chance of him staying are really low.

The next key and biggest question is what will the team do with CJ next offseason, plus I fully except the team to take a DE in the first 3 rounds again next draft as well.

If true then G-man made a massive fuging mistake.

We don't have any parts of a dominant secondary (a great safety or shut down CB) to cover up for the lack of pass rush without Hardy. Nor do we have a DE of his caliber on the roster. So we ruin our defense and have to start rebuilding because we won't pay the money? ?

Hardy was a very important cog last year.  You can't call him the third most important person on the team when he hasn't played this year.  You hope he will be again but honestly he needs to show us and everyone else that he is that important.  I don't think Gettleman is too high on Hardy now or before the incident.  He is still a wild card and does his own thing.

That cost money and more unknown commodities being brought in.

I'm not of a fan of paying large amounts of money to multiple people at the same position on general. Our defensive investment is too front 7 slanted IMO. Suddenly if the few spots your money is invested in doesnt show up.....you are horrible

I'd rather use the Hardy money elsewhere. He is too risky for big money/commitment.

Then we need to find away to get out of CJ contract.

Hardy is the younger and better player so he deserves CJ's money.

Again, two things:

The verdict

Can we still resign Cam and Luke if we give Hardy a big contract

If we can say "not guilty" and "yes" to those two questions than I am all for it

Those are the exact questions that concern me.There is no doubting we need Hardy to be a top rated defense but like you,I wonder if we will have enough money available to sign him after paying Cam and Luke the money they will demand.

His absence is just that a missing piece but who knows if Hardy will be the same player. Is Johnson the same player he was last year? And don't say it is because Hardy is gone because Johnson hasn't been doubled most plays. He is just not as effective. Right now Hardy is just a 13 million dollar albatross.

Forget it. Even if he goes to court in November and is not guilty, It will take weeks for him to get in game shape.Season will be just about over. He really screwed this team while sitting on his ass making millons. High hopes if you think he will have any impact this year and probably will not be resigned. He was on a one year rental. He got his money and the Panthers gpt squat for the tag.

What would happen if you took Robert Quinn off the Rams or Jj Watt off of the Texans? ?

Answer:

What is happening to us now. You take the best pass rusher off a team and this is what happens.

Add in the facts you have a bargain bin secondary Greg's normal versatility and the attention he demands and this is what happens.
