Ron Rivera is still terrible at clock management

Not to mention a touchdown on the drive was the last legitimate chance the Panthers had to win the game. They deferred after winning the coin toss (terrible decision) so a touchdown there and then another score after halftime and the Panthers are right back in it with the momentum.

Instead Rivera choked when the clock was running out once again and they settled for a field goal, the only points the Panthers would score until Derek Anderson was in the game.

Yeah he seems like he's just naturally aloof and dumbfounded when it comes to clock management.  I don't like seeing his face in those circumstances because he generally looks like a meathead with his eyes glossed over with bewilderment.  It's really unsettling honestly.

Aside from time management it would be nice if he located the balls of steel that he temporarily had when his ass was on the line.

Also Ron Ron is not so good at the challenges.

I was listening on sat radio and it seemed the spot of the ball or something like that was not in question and meathead throws the red flag anyway.

He's gotta be the worst challenger I've ever seen. I'm not sure if there's statistics easily available, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't have the worst challenge record in the league. I'm not sure what's up with that, he should have guys in the boxes helping him out but some of the challenges you gotta wonder what in the world they're thinking.

Terrible clock management is a recurring theme in Rivera's tenure.

Right before halftime the Panthers are down 21-0 with three timeouts. They started the drive with about two minutes left at about their own 20. Shula calls two early running plays and the Panthers burn through two timeouts.

Eventually Kelvin Benjamin makes a great catch in the redzone with :38 seconds left. The Panthers had one timeout remaining. Rivera choses to not call the timeout, and by the time the next play is run the clock is all the way down to :12, which greatly limits your chances to score a TD.

Rivera HAD to call the timeout after KB's catch. No excuse not to. This is fugging basic football 101 knowledge you get from playing a freaking video game. Call the timeout and you have :38 seconds from the redzone. Plenty of plays you can run there.

It's incomprehensible to me how Rivera doesn't understand basic clock management and probably never will.

Ronmanaged the clock perfectly in this situation because he secured points on the board. Sadly we need that timeout because we cannot trust Cam not to get sacked so we end up with nothing.

Theat might not be a choice that you like, especially down 21 I agree with should have gambled for the 7.

So the issue was the choice, not the execution.

It was fourth down, to much to win to not make that challenge, even if you have just a little hope to win.

I thought that he had taken care of this problem, but it seems that it is back. I think we would have lost to GB either way, but the last couple of minutes in Cincy were ours. Cam was driving down the field. Then somehow we are out of time and have to go to OT to tie.

Speaking of the Cincy game....

Didn't the Panthers burn a timeout at the line of scrimmage coming out of a 2-minute warning?
