@Mr. Scot - How long until you start preparing your Head Coach Candidate write-ups?

Yeah I think our coaching staff as a whole is just way too set in their ways.  Cam is one of the most dynamic talents in the league. Our offensive philosophy is just not a great match to what we have behind center.

Playing clock control mistake free football is great in theory, but take off the leash a bit.

I'm not confident in this staff at all anymore.  Not using the no huddle when it clearly works for us is just ridiculous.

The biggest problem I have with Rivera is how loyal he is to his assistants.  I can't think of one assistant who has made a lateral move from the panthers to another team since Ron has been here.  He got rid of a few guys and let a few of Fox's guys go but I can't remember anyone of Ron's guys just leaving for another team.  He lets his assistants coaches -coach the way they want.  That's good and bad, especially for the OC. Ron let Chud be Chud when he was here.  He did not try to rein him in or make him be more conservative when it comes to play calling.  He is also letting Shula be Shula, who is much more conservative by nature.  It is much easier to rein in an aggressive OC than it is to make a conservative OC try to be more aggressive.  I am not talking about going for it on 4th down I am talking more about play to play how you are attacking a defense.

When Chud was here I don't think Rivera had enough confidence to try to rein in Chud.  Plus we were scoring so many points and moving the ball so well why would he.  Ron needs a OC like that to help balance out his conservative nature.  He is not going to get that from Shula and I don't he will challenge Shula to become more aggressive, it would not work if he did.  Until we get someone like that to be the OC here again I don't think you will ever get the best out of Cam and this offense.

What you'll hear analysts say about Bevell is that he maximizes the talent he has available. He's been compared to Sean Payton in that regard.

To illustrate that, I'd ask how many players on the Seattle offense other than Russell Wilson or Marshawn Lynch anyone could name before yesterday.

i can name about 8-10 staters. but another guy who is interesting is Pep Hamilton.

Yeah. And just as many people didn't want him as well. Lol

Yea no doubt...same fans that wanted to keep John Fox and Delhomme after his 5 int game I'm sure.

Oh yea and people wanted to keep Hurney....always going to be the status quo people I suppose.

I know you said you don't want any shanahan, but I really feel like shanahan is going to be an awesome head coach. I love his offenses, and even Andre Johnson flourished when he was his position coach.

Mike Pettine has talked up shanahan in the past couple of weeks, saying he's getting ready to be a head coach.

Admittedly, he and RG3 did not get along. AT ALL. I don't know if that says more about Robert or more about shanahan.

    • I like what Freeling brings to the table all around. If he is willing to put in the work he has an opportunity to be one of the better Tackles in the league down the line. Hunter Brazzell and Hecht are all premium additions but development from our staff are the key to unlocking them. Hopefully Lee and Wheatley will provide much needed additional depth to our secondary. Beyond that it's important not to get too caught up in draft grades. Many drafts over the years that turned out to be really good were not fawned over with praise. While some that were ended up being historical duds. Panthers fans ought to know this as well as anyone. In conclusion...
    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
